Hey was playing the game and just got to the part before the grey warden initiation test and the games crashes kicking my monitor to power save. Now this happens when ever i try to play this part. Anyone have a similar problem I'm using a ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series.

If you're using Vista, go to Control Panel, select System and Maintenance then select Power Options. Pick whichever power plan you're using then select change plan settings and change "put computer to sleep" to from whichever to never. That worked on my old hard drive when my PC would just shut off my computer while I was playing games. Not sure about the crashes you're experiencing though.

Yeah... 3870 graphics card. I lose my graphics feed and my pc locks up immediately after the opening Ostragar cut scene... every time. I'm going to try loading a previous save and enter again.

I've not used XP in ages now, try looking around CP and find "Power Options" maybe it'll be there. If not, try to find a similar name that has same function.

yeah RogueDark, i'm having the exact same problem. I'm running a dual monitor system on a Radeon HD 3870 (diamond edition). I believe i'm at the same part of the game, but can't get any farther since the screens turn off and blink 'no signal'. I have posted the problem on 2 gamespot forums and have not yet heard any solution to the problem. It appears to be an isolated problem with ATI Radeon 3800 series. (but i'm not about to go buy a new graphics card when the one i have his plenty powerful enough to run this game). I'm still trying to find a solution and will post back if i find one. I hope there is a solution besides waiting months for a patch to come out.

Try my solution except you instead change your monitor setting rather than your computer setting to never.

unfortunately, changing the power options for your computer didn't eliminate the problem. neither does turning all the graphics to their lowest settings. updating the video drivers and updating direct X also failed. You can still try any one of these common troubleshooting steps. They may work for you. Another suggestion often made on other forums was that your video card may be overheating. I am now convinced that this is not the case. My GPU runs at 72 degrees C while playing Dragon Age : Origins. It runs at the same temperatures while playing many other recent games (for example, Red Faction : Guerrilla) and i have never experienced a screen failure. I hope this information may save you some time troubleshooting.

Well I lowered everything to lowest and played in windows mode and was able to get out into the wilds so well see how it goes putting the settings back up now.

a thread about this problem already exits here: http://social.biowar.../58/index/88792

it seems that, while there are people with other ATI cards, thebulk of the users experiencing this issue are using a 3870.

i hadn't thought about running it in windowed mode. unfortunately, i just tried it and the screens still failed on me. i hope it continues to work for you. looks like i'm back to playing Red Faction until a patch comes out X \\

If you are having the problem, I suggest filling out an official problem question by logging in with your account at the official support site here: http://help.dragonage.com/

Click on "E-mail Us" and fill out a problem report. You will get an incident report number and be able to view an official response from that site.
