So I just crafted tier 3 templar armor and I want to put some upgraded arms and legs to make it look better. So i crafted some battlemaster arms and legs, but can't put them on. Do I have to match templar arms and legs to the armor? Is there such a thing?

I believe all the "iconic" armors cannot be upgraded.

Which does make them somewhat useless compared to the normal armors.

I would have personally gone with 14 cunning instead of 9 dex and 9 cun from dragon scale because dexterity is relatively useless on a warrior.

Spoiler

It is also of worth noting fire resistance is capped at 80, if you have done the shard quest you only need 60, 30 if you wear the belt making the 74 useless. You could have added another element there.

Ah I see, well i needed the fire resistance lol was trying to beat the 3rd emprise du lion fire dragon at lvl 20.... yea not that smart but I just beat him and it felt soooo good! Yea Im not the best at picking stats I just go with what looks good. I wanted more health but couldn't seem to put it on that armor. **Also didnt do that quest**

Not true.  Iconic armor sets require more mats per slot.  So they are roughly equivalent in power to standard armor sets with arms and legs attached.

Except that their slots are for the most part defensive, which makes them rather useless (statwise) when compared to T3 Inquisition armour that can also have custom arms and legs.

Unless you get passive Defences (i.e Ranged Defence, Magic Defence, Melee Defence) Most other stats are considerably  useless for a vast majority of the games.
Resistances are for the most part, only worth it if you plan to kill the High Dragons. In which case, you should build a cheap mach-up armor with fire resistance just for those fights. 35%ish Fire Resistance for example is more then enough. There are ALSO tonics which can be upgraded for more 'oomph'.

The iconic armors, look alot better and dont center around the Inquisition themeing most of the armors. They also look nicer. You get less stats in general, less effects. However, +% Healing Bonus, Staggering on being hit and a few others like Bleed. Are almost entirely useless. Since rogues can crit-stagger under the right tree.

Unless the Legs and Arms have % Defences then i believe them only situational at best.

The game is meant to be as free as we can get. In Hard Difficulty or less, stats are not really too much of a worry on armor.
So PLAY how you want to play. Wear that templar armor, or wear that Dalish Keeper armor, or just look like an inquisitor.

They're exactly the same as far as slots: 43. But with battle master you have more options via upgrades. With superior battle master you actually have 4 more slots total.
