you can farm any short map with an abundance of chests quickly at the start of the game.. that location however is more tedious to get to on the higher difficulties due to the level 12 demons near by.

Obviously there's farm-able chests everywhere, but this one can be reached without any combat, have the highest level range before Tier 3, it drops up to level 16 items when your party could be as low as level 3. This is the best option if you want to farm early.

Good spot, quick save and load works with it aswell.

Got myself ready to farm for the Battlemage Cowl, and got it on the first load, single item. Farm over, crap. lol. Now i need to find a new chest, know any?. xD

There's a place in Hinterlands where you can farm tier 3 schematics early. It's a dwarven pot inside the vault of valammar.  http://youtu.be/_YHJQolCAV8?t=44m54s

Tier 3 masterwork

So this pot is one of the must leave and re enter chests? Every chest I have come across in the hinterlands will reset upon saving and reloading. It is how I have been farming T1 schematics this afternoon.

After some testing, I figured out that you can quick save and load at a short distance from the pot. But once you have opened it and looted a schematic, you need to zone out and in again to refresh the pot. I edited my other post in this thread with a updated video.

Yeah, you can save and then spam reload on any chest to have it's contents change. But once you take an item, you have to re-zone.

The Vault if Valmmar chest at the end is a good choice, but you also may need to be closer to lvl 10-12.

The chest the OP is talking about can be reached without having to fight the nearby demons, meaning you can go there as soon as you reach The Hinterlands.

Farming either one takes about the same time, but the Valmmar one guarantees multiple items making it more beneficial. The other chest can frequently spawn only a single item, forcing you to skip it or end the farm.

That's not quite true, at least for the chest in the OP. I never rezoned after taking items, and the chest still changed its contents after reloading.

Yep, found the Helm on my second reload. :D

Another nice thing about this chest is that you often get 100-200 gold per attempt, along with a bunch of stuff you can sell. So even if you don't get the schematic you're after, after a while you'll have enough money to buy anything you want at the Val Royeaux merchant.

The method works. I've gotten a lot of Tier 2 schematics so far.

Dammit, that many Superior T2 Schematics while just at level 4... Next thing is to make those Paragon Luster's farming quicker.

Any place for farming Tier 2 schematics with four or five or more chests inside? Not necessarily at the start of the game, but a place where there's a lot of chests? So far Unadin Grotto is about the only place I'm aware of.

(Valammar and others just don't cut it for me - opening one chest means lots of re-runs, especially if you only need one particular schematic).

If you're going to farm maps that only appear after Haven, you might as well do Emprise for tier 3 stuff. There are 3 chests on the frozen lake and island that usually contain 2-3 items. A bonus is that you can save/reload immediately after looting these chests; no map travel/running around needed.

Yea. I'm the one who recorded that video and I run DAI from an old intel x25-m 80 g2. Rest of my computer: i7 3930k, intel 520 running windows 10 preview build 9879 (unoptimized drivers).

A better option is to farm Grey Warden ruins in northeast part of Emprise.

There's one chest right outside the entrance, with 6 more inside and they're all close to each other.

Also, the contents refresh after you leave the ruin, so no need to save and load.

But if you do the ones in Emprise, you don't need to move at all. Just press F/F5/F9 as required.
