How do you rescue everyone in the IYHSB quest? My first playthrough I went around fighting enemies all over Haven until Cassandra told me "thats it, thats everyone". However, Flissa, Minaeve and one or two others died. I figured they were scripted deaths that happened no matter what. Apparently thats not the case. So how can you save everyone during that mission? I remember it being somewhat difficult at only level 7, not having a lot of good talents yet to really kill enemies quickly.

One girl is in the pub; two guys you have to save before they blow up from the pots exploding; one guy is trapped in the house I think you need to get the game to destroy the crate in front of his house then go in and "aid" him; and last person is the person fighting the red templars.

When you enter certain áreas, you will be warned that there are civillians in danger. For instance, when you approach the bar.
At that point, you have a limited time to save everyone. Ignore the Venatori and rescue them, they won't pursue you.

Help the blacksmith open the door outside the gates... then run inside the gates and help save Lysette near the wall. Now don't go to the left to the burning building. Instead go right to the tavern. You'll spawn some templars, but run inside the Tavern and save the girl. Clear out the templars and head up the stairs to where Solas usually stands. As soon as you start up the stairs, you will start the timer for some explosive barrels. So ignore any enemies, and save Adan and right next to him the creature research girl. Once you save both of them, there's not timer on the others so you should be good. Go back to the burning building you skipped to the left of the gates, and rescue the merchant guy inside. Then head up the steps towards the Chantry. There you'll find Quartermaster Threnn fighting some Templars, help her, and you've saved everyone.

I can rescue them all even on nightmare. First smash the boxes for Herrit then help the templar lady, I forget her name. Go up the stepa and go to the right, just run past the enemies into the tavern for flissa, an inquisition npc and your party will hold them off while you rescue her. Go out and up to thee spot where the apothecary is and do Mineave then Adan. Your party will reappear with you unharmed and you run up to the chantry and save threnn then down and save Seggrit. I found this is best accomplished with shield bash.

fight and clear enemies only when the quest says save the townspeople. When you near a location and you get a 'save so-and so', stop fighting and go rescue them. You only have a few seconds in most cases. You don't need everyone to follow either. Set most of your team to attacking the enemies and send one person to get rescue.

FWIW, there's sadly not much point to saving them other than feeling good I guess. Even if they live they all lose their jobs and pretty much get replaced with inferior versions and then just wander around your stronghold the rest of the game just saying one liners.

Really? For me he just wandered around making sulky comments about getting replaced.

I play a mage. I fire one spell at the mobs to get my party attacking (engages AI attack mode) then I run save people and leave me herd fighting. They port to me if I get to far or hit a target away from them. One hit then save people. Once I get segritt, I go back and kill any mobs left before going into the chantry (for the xp)

Yeah, that was pretty disappointing. Even after saving everyone, it didn't make a difference.
merchant guy opens up a shop at skyhold
In my game, Seggrit just wandered around Skyhold complaining about how he'd been replaced. There was a shop with a brown haired npc, but I don't know if it being there was linked to Seggrit's survival or if it's there when he isn't saved as well.

.
I saved Seggrit, but he is just wandering around.
I heard he would set up a shop if you rescued him? Not in my game.

It's actually really easy once you figure it out. Each person has a timer that starts only when you enter a certain boundary. The best order to rescue people, I would say is. (This worked easily for me.)
Harritt the Blacksmith: Located at the smithy
Lysette the Templar: Located just to your right when you enter the village gates. (Must fight off Red Templars)
Seggrit the Merchant: Turn left and head straight up the stairs. (Trapped under debris in a burning house, must breakdown door or climb through roof to reach.)
Threnn the Quartermaster: Climb the stairs directly in front of you. (Fight off Red Templars.)
For these last three you should ignore enemies until they are rescued.
Flissa the Barmaid. Climb back down the stairs where you found Seggrit and turn right towards the bar. (Just lift the debris off of her.)
Adan the Apothecary: Keep going right and climb the stairs. (Found with Minaeve trapped by a combustible cart about to explode.)
Minaeve the Researcher: Found left of Adan. (This one's tricky, after saving Adan immediatly start on Minaeve, she should escpae just as the cart explodes.)
And that's it, seriously this should have earned a trophy/achievement.

The reason why everyone gets replaced anyway, live or die, is because BioWare didn't want to record two versions of the Skyhold dialogues with each role.
Yeah, they shouldn't have made you run around saving them, but this is pretty symptomatic of DA:I's larger problems, right? Give you a mechanic that seems like it's going to be super-meaningful, and then run out of time / budget / give-a-**** before actually making it meaningful.

I never bother with Seggrit he seems shady to me. ![]()
Also if you save Threnn afterwards her replacement said she was replaced due to having issues.

There's an excuse for all of them leaving if they survive. Although they can all be found wandering around Skyhold now and then.
Flissa joins the Chantry.
Seggrit gets demoted to doing odd jobs, and now hates you. (Ingrate)
Lysette still serves, she just runs out of meaningful dialogue.
Adan and Minaeve, have the worst excuse, "they get called to other duties".
Threnn is the only one with a legitimate reason, now that the Inquisition is an important political force, there's no room for someone with such controversial political views in a visible position like that.

Humph. I've forgotten the name of the merchant I'm thinking of....'Bonny...[someone],' but I think she is the same woman you could've picked up in Val Royeaux the first time you went there. All the same, she has some dialogue about why Seggrit is replaced, just like Halisima and Ser Morris. So maybe if you don't recruit her, he'll stay in business?
You're confusing Bonny Sims with Belle. Belle's recruitment is purely that she becomes an agent for Josephine.

That bit with Threnn is kind of harder to justify if Loghain became a Warden, came to Skyhold to help the Inquisition and ultimately ends up sacrificing himself (most people will probably choose Hawke over Loghain if push comes to shove).
I will say however that I did get pretty much the only meaningful moment from saving those npcs out of that scenario. When Loghain was at Skyhold I talked to Threnn and she said that she had gone to see him and he remembered her by name. She was really proud and happy about it and I felt good for her.
Her replacement really is a joke. I mean they even went out of their way to show he was completely inept and unqualified and only got the job due to social position/favors.

I always found Flissa the hardest because I didn't realize you actually had to go inside the tavern to save her, and not just fight off the dudes in front of it.

I was led to Flissa by both the quest marker, and one of the companions will announce that there's someone else to save when I approached the tavern. The thing that drove me crazy was when one or two of those stupid Red Templars would follow me in and prevent me from reviving her.
