I got to the point in the game of recruiting Vivienne. After our long talk she asked to join, I said, “No” and walked away.

Nothing really changes in the game not having her around, well aside from not having a damn migraine (which I do not miss).

Vivienne’s room is empty, no War Table quests from her and no thus far she has not crawled back in another desperate attempt to join.

I just cannot stand that woman. Yes, she is well written, I am not questioning that. I however find her more wanting to join The Inquisition for her own personal gain then actually wanting to help. You know one more thing she can brag about to her noble friends. Ugh!

Anyways…anyone else chose NOT to recruit Vivienne?

Some of us need to have a good example of a circle mage around, darling.

I don't like Viv but Idk if I'll ever skip having her join the Inquisition because my quizzy feels she's an asset even if she's horrible about getting along with other people. (also her version of The Game is simply how many times can I insult every single person around me). Let us know if she ends up being Divine!

As much as I vehemently disagree with her point of view I find myself respecting her opinions. My inquisitor's relationship with her somewhat reminds me of Silence of the Lambs; she is cunning, shrewd, and dangerous, but her advice is most appreciated.

The Character writing for this particular title is simply too good to pardon because of philosophical differences.

Being higher born, my Inquisitor was fine with her.

She exactly the sort of weasel that makes people hate politicians and I didn't care for her at all, but she does have some really good points about magic and mages in general and while I'll never agree with her stance on the circles, I respect her opinion in a way I could never respect Anders'.

My first Inquisitor didn't get along with her at all. My 2nd Inquisitor - they're best friends. Viv is AMAZING when she likes you.

This will probably be the only playthrough where that happens tho.

Only companion I've turned down to recruit is Cole (in my 2nd playthorugh - devout Andrastian....) - and that one just feels terrible.

I didn't refuse her offer, but I did find it rather grating how she refused to accept that her opinions weren't shared by the Inquisitor, or how she thinks the rumors she's heard about the Dalish gives her more insight into the People than the life experience held by the Lavellan Inquisitor.

Unfortunately for Vivienne, she didn't get to profit from the Inquisition with my Inquisitor, who backed Briala and Leliana.

You refused Vivienne? The woman who not only is a master at the Grand Game, but who also offers the loyalty of the remaining Loyalist mages, who help to reinforce the nearly-shattered image that not all mages are dangerous apostates? Not to mention, she is actually really nice to you if you're not a total moron.

Smart move.

With regards to cole let me guess you played a devote Andrastian but you saved the mages correct? If you save the templars Cole comes across VERY different. I was determined not to like Cole becaue of asunder but I played a devout Andrastian human noble on my first playthrough and saved teh templars and i saw cole in a very different light so i let him stay.

My main inquistor, Navilia, is best friends with her. Vivi is basically her magic advisor, even if I use dorian more as a party member, I just love vivi.

My dalish mage on the other hand doesn't get along at all with her. There viewpoints clash to much, and that is fine. Enansal Lavellan has Solas to help mentor her in magic.

I never understood people's dislike of Vivienne. I feel like people hate her because she was always chalked up to be as the person you'll hate in advertisements and stuff. Every time I talk to her I get a approves or slightly approves and I've never kissed her ass, just spoke my mind. If anything I find Sera more annoying than her. I don't get it.

Not getting along with Vivienne is like not getting along with Morrigan in DA:O. Couldn't imagine the Inquisition without her :) Sera on the other hand...

Darling, Vivienne will always have a place in my Inquisition (even though her vitriolic comments to her fellow companions can be a bit much sometimes).

You are the Lord/Lady Inquisitor, not a Knight of Solamnia. You don't hire people to like them. You recruit some very unpleasant and horrible people because they help you to crush heretics, demons, monsters and worse. You keep the maniac anarchist due to her underground connections (and for Beess!!!), and you keep the vulture woman due to he Loyalist followers (and to kill dragons).

I think it's awesome how different playthroughs pan out. My fem (canon) Inquisitor was on bad terms with both Vivienne and Sera, just could never get along somehow, always saying the wrong thing. My second (male) Inquisitor, though, seems to be scoring more approval points from both but clashes with Dorian all the time, whereas my fem & him were best buds (and she even sided with the templars!). Dunno.  :D

This is why I wouldn't purposely not recruit someone, because you never know who your Inquisitor might connect with.

I can't bring myself to turn down any companions. I don't think I've ever really despised any. Like some more than others, sure, but never really any hate. Vivienne is an interesting case for me. She got along very well with my pro-circle mage in my first playthrough. Personally, I find her a bit of a snob, but highly amusing around others and smart/capable. I can put aside my personal disagreements pretty easily if I find a character well written, and I do love many of her lines.

I don't care for Viv and Sera but I'll always recruit them. Both of them annoy me a lot, when they say anything. Viv and her bald head, are gathering dust in her cubby hole and Sera is doing the same thing in her little alcove. Every now and then, I'll take them somewhere but I do have the problem of not very much banter so I don't hear all that they might say...I've heard most of the banter on Youtube.

What's funny is the OP is getting mad at Vivie for joining the Inquistion for her own reasons, yet has no problem with Anders playing Hawke like a fiddle for his own reasons that ended up killing huindreds of innocent people?

I love it.
