When I loaded the game this afternoon, one of the "tip" cards that displayed said, "If you are three or more levels above an enemy or creature, you will no longer receive XP for defeating it."

Is... is this true? Has anyone else seen this / confirmed it?? I'm level 18 and just started on defeating the dragons, and if I'm not getting XP for beating them I am going to be FURIOUS.

It's true, but dragons are exempt.

In fact, killing Dragons too early might give you too much xp, and over level you for future areas.

Thank goodness.

I'm still mad about this though - am I missing something? I feel like they're penalizing me for not playing the game the way they think it should be played. If I want to stay in each area until it's completed (and I do), I should be able to do that without being penalized for "over leveling" before I get to the next section. Isn't that what scaling enemies is for?

They don't really scale enemies in the same way and levels are generally worthless since this game is gear driven but I agree that not giving XP is a bad design choice.

Agreed.  You should probably receive less XP for being 3-4 levels above the enemies you kill, but not no XP.  The only point in killing them would be for items, and even those might not be useful (other than to sell) if they are too low level.

I find that it's a miniscule amount of xp rather than none. I'll get 10 xp per mob when in the hinterlands searching for something at level 19.

This level restriction is applied only on godlike trashmobs (those who cannot die permanently, ever, but possess resurrection ability - unlike you).

Proper mobs that once killed never return, those who's death is permanent as are not godlike by Bioware's new (new, as this quantity over quality endless trashmobs scandal wasn't present in ME1-3 nor in DA1-2) singleplayer game design, will grant you XP no matter what level you are.
