So, one of the "features" in DAI is that your clothes get "dirty" or "Muddy" as you travel, however, all this seems to do is to turn your boots into a different color, which to me, is extremely annoying.

So, is there a way to disable this? I have been looking in the graphics and display options and found nothing, even google was no help, so I thought I'd ask here.

Anyone know if it can be turned off?

They do?  Huh, I'm going to have to take a look later.  I never noticed.  :P

Can you expound on the "turn your boots into a different color"?

That sounds more like a unintended visual artifacts. I have not noticed anything like that. Perhaps a driver update?

As this only happens when you move on dirt roads or through tallgrass, it wouldn't be a driver issue(I also have the latest drivers).

The fastest way to see this, is to go to the Stormcoast in any armor, except white(As they do not seem to be affected as much), find some tallgrass and run through it a couple of times and bam, boots change color to a paler version.

[EDIT] Uploaded an image of it.

After some more testing, it seems that most of the crafted armor color options does this... It turns the boots to a light brown color.

White seems to be immune to this though... Guess the Nugs don't have bugs =P

[EDIT] Nope, Nug armor does it too... But only the top folded part of the boots, the rest of the boots stay white... Strange.

Guess it is a bug =P

Does it change if you rest?

Yeah, would definitely like an option to turn this off.  It would be one thing if it added a decent mud/snow visual to your feet/legs, but in it's current state, it just simply fades the color out.  Looks rather terrible, lol.

To replicate this, if you have a save in Haven and still have the Mercenary Coat gear, just put that on and run around the town.  Soon enough, the lower half of your Merc Coat outfit will go from a dark brown color to almost a beige.  It actually looks similar in color to our Skyhold casual outfits.

Not really sure why they added this to the game.  However, I think it is intentional, rather than a bug.  They mentioned it in one of their live streams prior to the game's release.  They rested at one of the Hinterlands camps and Mike or one of the other devs said something along the lines of getting their clothes cleaned or boots polished.  Right after they rested, their gear turned back to normal color.

So yeah, definitely intentional, however I am not exactly sure which types of terrain cause this effect.  Regardless, an option to turn it off would be welcome.

EDIT:

Starting at 20:20 of the above video.  That shows what the OP is referring to.

Blah blah blah.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening.

Would be nice if they added an option to disable that, as it does not happen like they say in the video... It appears at specific points in the enviroment, not time spend out in the world or anything.

It looks very, VERY horrible. Especially when your armor is all black, like mine, and then suddenly your boots turn tan or brown or whatever, and then stays on until you reload a save, rest or zone.

You can turn your mesh quality down (now that it reduces shader quality), but it's not really a worthwhile tradeoff.

Its supposed to simulate "Dust" being kicked up as you walk.. and its entirely intentional, as you can stand still for about 2 minutes and watch it slowly fade away.

Its a decal, and it should have an option to turn it off, just like the gore.

That is indeed not a worthwhile tradeoff, as you have to set it to Medium, and then the tradeoff is you get extremely shiny hair.

So, I guess all there is to do is to hope that the Devs will add a toggle, disable it completely or a third party finds a workaround.

I went ahead and took a much better comparison screenshot, so you can see how bad it really is.

This armor is made out of Great Bear pelt(Dark Brown color) so that cannot be mud or dirt... I only stepped foot on a road for 2 seconds.

This has to be a glitch, no way this could be intentional.

Noticed this always happening on the last snow trek part before the 'Dawn will come' cutscene. Thought it was a graphics glitch, but maybe it's a feature. Depending on gear though, it doesn't always look quite right.
