Salvage staves and armor mods.

Staves and *light* armor mods. It's the least common resource for most people unless RNG is being unusually amusing.

Just to let you know here.... level 16 is nothing! Crafting materials arent always in abundance in this MP and you cant really measure this game in levels which doesnt really pinpoint anything, but rather promotions, or prestige. I'm not sure how long it took me to unlock everything but it did take a good while, which is how it should be.

Salvaging any one of the below
Staves = 1 cloth each (you obviously get more if you have used and runed the said staff)
Runes = 1 of each (metal, leather, cloth) afaik
Cloth armor upgrades 1 cloth + (might get metal / leather too) or with luck 2 cloth
That's about it ![]()

Cloth is about 3x rarer than leather and metal. You will have a very high chance to have a large deficit of cloth if you are also crafting mage armor in addition to rogue and warrior armor.
Welcome to bad bioware math that pisses off a lot of players.

Welcome to bad bioware math that pisses off a lot of players.
I think what pisses off a lot of players is their own lack of patience. "Wtf, I'm almost level 20 already, where's my epic loot and all unlockable characters?". Level 20 on your first character is just nothing in this game really...

Torkelight, over 99% of people will have a shortage of cloth so that it is the limiting factor in their progression of obtaining any class armor.

Oh yeah I'm in the 1℅ I rock.
I think the percentage is (much) higher.
Besides, I guess the reason why it moves so slow is that you get fewer tradeable items that gives you cloth in return, hence yes it moves slower. BUT with patience and time you will unlock them all. I really dont see the problem. I personally had probably promoted twice before I had unlocked most characters, and even longer for everyone. Besides, it didnt take me long to realise that every weapon that is not better than the best or unique (as I like to keep them) is almost always just salvagematerials. You will also end up salvaging both runes and upgrade materials and even a lot of accesories. Before you know it you have unlocked everything and have an abundance of materials that you cant use for anything at all.
Again, I am pretty sure lack of patience is the actual problem here.

No, the problem is bioware bad math making cloth significantly rarer. I have opened over 350 chests so have enough mats to know the math is bad. If you really want to see the ratio of cloth, metal, and leather I can show you.

Sure, show me. Truthfully though, and no offence to you - I dont really care. I dont think the amount of time it took for me to unlock all characters, which I assume is what the OP is talking about, was unescessary long, and thats what I care about. Actually I think it was perfectly well balanced to my liking. Things are supposed to take a bit of time and effort.
And I'm going to check when I get home, and see if there is a huge discrepancy between cloth and other materials. I do predict though, that once people have crafted all the armors, they are going to complain that they have too much crafting materials and nothing to use it on.

The main issue is the disparity. It trolls people with surplus leather and metal and shows how little thought went into the loot system. You will almost always have a deficit of cloth because it doesn't drop much and it is the bottleneck to progression.
It takes a very long time to get the tier 2 appearance-level of all the classes, and its all because of the cloth. If they at least balanced the drop-rate of the three different categories of crafting materials then people are less inclined to feel trolled, even if it takes as long as it does now.

I unlocked all classes before hitting 20 on my first one.
Why?
Because I -PLAY- all classes!
Level 16 archer? I don't care. Is everything else level 1? You've spent almost no time on the game, by comparison. Me, I switch to whatever role we need. We need a warrior? I switch. We need a mage? I switch. I don't level just one thing, and as such, all my classes level fairly evenly. This let me even out my experience, getting the most enjoyment out of limited classes and not getting bored, and the like.

Sure, there is a disparity. Maybe cloth was a rare item in the dragon age days....
Personally I think making it take a longer time would even make it a better game.... and it is not unusual for people to be inclined to feel trolled when they are used to the kind of online games you find today, every single one with microtransactions and P2W and you name it.
I think everyone should be forced to play Dark Souls to the end, and then we'll see what their opinions are after that experience.

What does P2W have to to with anything in this game anyways? And I haven't seen anyone complaining about how long it takes to unlock classes. The problem is that for no good reason whatsoever, it is harder to unlock/upgrade mages than the other classes.
And no, I won't be playing Dark Souls any time soon. I play games to relax, not get frustrated...

Prestige 203 takes time but you will have an abundance way before that.
Do you even remember when you had your first level 16? I cant say I do.

I'm not talking about this game specificly but games in general. Experience in what games you are- and have been playing is shaping how you react to other games.
And yes, as they are talking about unlocking mages - they are talking about unlocking classes. Same thing really. And maybe thats the way they intended it. You dont know do you?
Besides, it takes a while, and at some point you've done it. Why does it have to be so quick? OP talks about level 16 and to be honest, at that point you really are an infant in this game....
To bad you're not playing Dark Souls. It can be frustrating at times, but it can also be immensly rewarding. And it is also at times greatly relaxing and beautifull, if you choose to slow down. Probably the best SP experience I have had at any point in my gaming life. If you want to turn your brain off and not experience any emotion, turn on your telly and watch some soap.

That is different, and probably not intended.

They need to re-balance the cloth rates. I have two level 15's. A legionnaire and a keeper. All I get are two handed swords and mauls and daggers (which I couldn't use even if i wanted). I have tons of leather and metal but only 2 each of each cloth type. By now in ME 3 I would have unlocked some classes by now even if they were not who I wanted. Once I get them to level 20 if I can't unlock a character I am done. This is ridiculous.

Just keep playing and don't give up. I know cloth is like an ultra rare, but I've already unlocked all characters and the basic versions of their alternate outfits. It'll happen, it just takes time. Days, not hours.
