Unrelated: I played a round with an Alchemist today who used Fire Flask and then spammed Elemental Mines. It was surprisingly effective.
Parry on a rogue ... worth it?

2) every alchemist has tried that

It's more useful on an Assassin, if you like playing an evasive duelist type character, but there are better options and methods. Not sure on the alchemist, though potion spam is always the way to go.

I figured you'd go for multi-flank-attack with the fire flask.
Never really got the timing right though.

I only get hit by arrows on my Assassin/Alchemist, what would I use parry for?

Well- I'm more of a melee, in-your-face type so I avoid most rogues. ![]()
Still, multi-flank could be a useful tactic? Might try it next time I promote my Alch.

It's okay but Flank Attack has a very long animation. You'll get three Flank Attacks off at most and most likely put it on CD. Is that worth a skill slot?

It also has some trigger issues. The cloak isn't worth it, in my opinion. I prefer sneak attack to the back, hope for a kill, evade otherwise.
Parry could be useful in that tactic...might try it on my assassin next time, even if I mostly use them for payback against archers.

So you get two extra Flank Attacks but they all do less damage. Not to mention you don't get the auto crits on consecutive Flank Attacks.

The way to play Assassin/Alchemist leaves very little room for player preference if you want an optimal build.
On Assassin you get Stealth, Twin Fangs, Flank Attack and Hidden Blades.
On Alchemist you get Stealth, Twin Fangs, Fire Flask and Elemental Mines.
I guess you could go Fire Flask, Elemental mines, Frost Flask and Parry on the Alchemist and have a fun little build but it won't be optimal. On second thought that sounds pretty nice, 8 second 85% damage immunity plus the taunt makes you pretty useful to the team. Another build to consider is Stealth Twin Fangs, Frost Flask, Parry.
While Elemental Mines are fun I think their damage is too low to consider them anything but a niche fun skill, besides low damage setting it up for good efficiency is a pain and requires teamwork.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't view Elemental Mines as damage dealer but as combo primer.
People who step into your mine field will be either burning or chilled or shocked.
If a friendly keeper cast Chain Lightning on them, the whole group goes kaboom.

great in theory but in practise I find the situation where you get a nice group in your minefield pretty rare, you'd have to wait around for the perfect moment to make that happen and even then, it only really works if your team plays with your mines in mind.
I can explain why the Alchemist was so effective, max level daggers are ridiculously strong. You don't really need any skills but stealth to be super effective with Rogue or Alchemist

If the Alchemist cloaks and walks up to an inert mob before doing the Flask + Elemental Mine spam maneuver, it is pretty easy to get a whole room full of enemies primed for combo. On the other hand, everybody might be dead before the Chain Lightning reaches them :-)

Not quite like that on Perilous.
