Any bow drops better than Tenasarin at one of Skyhold's merchants.

How did that Dragon killing axe burn you exactly? That's a pretty solid weapon, especially on Bull since the Reaver tree depends on crits and the weapon has solid damage.

Pretty much this, as much as I loathe it. I bought the hideously designed Spiked Longbow schematic in Val Royeaux at about level six, and I just now found a drop that was marginally better at level fourteen, about 40 hours in.

The crafting/drop dichotomy in DAI was pretty much everything I was afraid of. Bioware didn't even attempt to avoid any of the pitfalls.

I've personally banned any crafting after tier 1 since there's no level requirement and the armor makes my tanks almost immortal on nightmare =(

There are a few end game items that are better than crafted items, usually because of special abilities. I'm looking at you Griphon Bow. Also, all the T3 helmet schematics I've found are full of defense slots, so the unique rogue helm I got off of the Hissing Wastes vendor is best in slot.

Good idea. Unfortunately, I'm too much of a fashion ****** to do that.

You can travel to Hissing Wastes and get the Masterwork Spiked Bow Schematic inside the first Fairel Tomb (right next to a camp in he middle of the map) and then craft a Bow superior to any in the game (apart from, maybe, the Longbow of the Griffon).
Having done this, I've been using a level 20 Bow with +35 Cunning since level 14. In fact, looting all Fairel Tombs is something  you can do as soon as you hit Skyhold and are able to handle level 16 fights, because the loot found on those places are freaking good, generally even better than what you get by killing Dragons.
