Neither. The Inquisition doesn't have time for Spirits acting like children.

Humans. Spirits are too pure and can be easily corrupted to be a demon. Humans have emotions like hatred, anger, happy. As spirit, Cole keeps making people forget. He wouldn't learn anything from the experience by hiding. If you get hurt, you learn from the experience, you grow from it. If Cole were to face something bigger than himself and haven't learned to cope with it, at some points, he will start to turn into evil and blow up a Chantry.

Human because I am not a dick.

Spirit, because that's what he is. If he can help people in his own way, so be it. I don't need more "normal" people.

The only logical path is to chase him off like the abhorrent monster he is.

Human. It's not explained why Cole is the way he is. He talks about only helping the real Cole, never possessing him, not even his corpse.
Cole is either an accident or some spirit-human hybrid. Either way, he is not like the other spirits, and should no longer be held accountable to what they are.
I made him a "human." Or rather, more human.

I chose human cause amulets can be lost or broken.

Human, because he can grow more as a human. I've done both now and he seems happy either way but I really like him as a human/person.

Him being a spirit is a static mode of existence. It's what he already is. Letting him be more human will allow him to grow and be more apart of the world he decided to enter.
Not to mention the interactions/cutscenes that follow are both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.

Spirit. Telling him he's human is only feeding a delusion.

Human path.
His development into someone with a better understanding of life is what makes his human path great.

Spirit, that's what he he is and forcing a big change like this when he does not even want it is just rude.

It not really a forced big change since he has been on that path since Asunder due to Rhys.
At the point of DAI Cole is just at the edge of that change between Human or Spirit and his companion story is simple determining where he will fall into being Spirit or Human.

Josh, he greatly approves if you allow him to become more human.

He also greatly approves if you help him become a spirit again then take him to Val Royaeux.

Sprit, it is what he is and, after Justice/Anders I know better than to mess up spirits by trying to get them to be human. NEVER try to bend a spirit into what it is not, that makes it a demon. Sure Cole is content either way for now, but what about DA:4, does making him more human give you a new Anders or, possibly Anders and comany of such spirit/human hybrids? I don't even wnat to think of the havoc that would create, look what one did, and I'm trying to fix that mess.

I picked spirit in one game and human in another. I like spirit better because it lets him keep the fullness of what makes him special, and he also seems much less tortured. On the human path he couldn't stop talking about how much pain he was experiencing.

I think either way is good. I went human on my Qunari Mage, and Spirit on my Dalish Warrior.
It was quite a well done choice, I think. Human is perhaps the more straightforwardly and obviously "nice" option, but I'm glad they refrained from going heavy on the "you have chosen poorly" stuff on the spirit path.
