I was watching a video of the ending of this today and when Hawke stayed behind, after saying, Say goodbye to Varric for me," Hawke very, very quietly said "Sorry Fenris."

I watched other videos since I was curious and saw that a Hawke romancing Isabela can say "Safe harbor, Isabela."

However, my Hawke romanced Anders and all she said was, "Alright then" or something to that effect.

Does Anders get nothing? What about Merrill or Sebastian?

I think it also depends on your Hawke's personality. Did you play a humorous Hawke? That might explain it.

My Hawke was diplomatic.I know (or at least I'm pretty sure) that humorous Hawke's line about the spiders takes priority over the romanced lines, or at least I haven't heard otherwise.

My Hawke said, "Say goodbye to Varric for me," when Varric was standing right there! I was like, "Tell him yourself!" Then afterward Varric said, "Where's Hawke?" and I thought, "You just saw what happened, idiot!" Something is wonky there.

@above: Your companions rush on ahead back to the real world, when the demon blocks you, Mr. Warden and Hawke.

I guess otherwise you'd probably wonder "Why can't Blackwall/Cassandra/etc. distract him?" Suppose it's a bit forced, when you think about it. I suggest you don't think about it.

I played a sarcastic Hawke who romanced Fenris and I got the 'Sorry, Fenris.' line, not anything about spiders.

that line was so heartbreaking, it made me reload and murder stroud ugh.

Oh, does Anders get nothing then? Because I romanced Anders and didn't get anything.

I'm fairly sure it was. I got the sarcastic line upon entering the Fade, sarcastic line about Qunari in Skyhold, and a couple others.

I know Merrill got something. Can't remember specifically what Hawke said though.

I had aggressive Hawke who romanced and supported Anders, and she said "Sorry, Anders."

You know, I'd expect Hawke of all people to kill that ***** spider. I mean, come on, we could have taken that thing! I've already packed in several dragons under my belt by then, and we have a warden, (A warden. Just one, lol. Damn lying Blackwall) and we've got the Champion of Kirkwall, plus the Herald of andraste, Bianca, and whatever badasses you decided to bring.

That spider should have been bird food.

Perhaps Nightmare can't be killed. If you think about it, it is sustained by people's fear. And when we meet it, there is an awful lot of fear. So all that fear could be sustaining it to the point where it cannot be permanently damaged or killed.

Yea, the wardens are there to be sacrificed after all. Hawke didn't really deserve to die if you ask me. His only guilt was from trying to put down crazy people making others drink darkspawn blood. How was he supposed to know the thing causing the insanity was undying?

Maybe if it was the nightmare itself, sustained by literally everyone's fear. That would definitely be powerful. Makes you wonder what other demon concepts are "the" demonic emotions themselves.

Kinda like the demons gluttony, lust, pride, etc. Except instead of spirits taking these forms, they are where these things come from and can't be killed as long as they exist in humanity.

I only sacrificed Hawke to see what would happen and it was horrible. Never doing that again.

Besides, Wardens pretty much sign up for the whole sacrificing thing, who cares if they die

I had imported a world state that had Alistair as the Grey Warden contact.  No way I was sacrificing him.  He's going back to my Warden!  So I left my Hawke and balled like a baby :(  Sorry Sebastian!  Her last words were: (Deep breath) "Right, then."

Edit:  She was diplomatic and was "with" Sebastian.

As to why sacrifice Hawke? Staying behind was exactly what my canon Hawke would do. (Romanced Anders, had to kill him, sided with Templars, etc) He takes responsibility very seriously. It really didn't matter who the Warden was, there was no way he was letting anyone hedge in on 'his job.' Especially not when the Warden still has a shot at cleaning up that mess.

I did just sacrifice a Diplomatic Mage Hawke who sided with the Mages and romanced Isabela and he gave the line about the spiders just like my other Hawkes have. I was wondering if that line could change. It's nice to know that it can, but I'm curious as to what triggers it.

Edit: One Hawke was Diplomatic and one was 'Forceful,' I think the term is? Both gave the line about the spiders. Both were Viscounts, but neither had a current romantic partner. Diplomatic Viscount Hawke was my canon with Dead Anders and the other just couldn't be bothered.

Why would anyone sacrifice Hawke anyway??

Lots of varied reasons...Some people don't even like Hawke, especially the snarky personality.

I sacrificed Hawke on the world states where the Warden made the US. Personally, I like that idea of that tragic cycle continuing.

Also, don't forget Alistair's devoted fandom.

Or Loghain's, for that matter.
