Does killing animals really make them disappear from the area?

I remember hearing that if you killed the wildlife in the areas, that they would eventually disappear altogether. How true is this? I've been mostly avoiding killing the wildlife but some quests/requisitions/craft require parts obtained from killing the animals. I don't really want my areas to become devoid of animal life.

This was something I remember hearing way back. The Wiki also says something similar (last paragraph): http://dragonage.wik...play_and_Combat

So, is it not a good idea to kill all the bears, for example? How exactly does it work?

In my game the more animals I kill the stronger they get and more show up so I would not worry about them disappearing.

I have absolutely no idea, but I have to say, anyone who has the patience to kill all the bears in this game deserves a goddamn trophy.

For every animal you kill, at least three more are spawning right behind you.

Well, I don't understand why Bioware said that about the wildlife then. Thanks for the replies.

They didn't implement this system. Instead they have heat-seeking murder bears.

It's either not implemented or not working right. Or it's much slower/ requires leaving and coming back to the area for it to take effect. Because I once killed 6-10 great bears in one place and they just kept coming down from the coast in Emprise. And killing all the wolves I see didn't seem to prevent them spawning right on top of me.

"Dragon Age Inquisition has a dynamic ecosystem!"

Cue this video...

I guess it's not a problem really. I don't mind that animals constantly respawn but the devs completely back tracked on this one. The only population that are affected are the humanoid enemies and that's from your actions throughout the regions in eliminating their head-quarters.

I'm not sure the system functions as they said it would, but I know that when returning to areas I've already been to that the enemies are sparse.  I just don't know if that's related to my having killed them off, or simply because I've spread the inquisition to the area.

I've actually had a hard time finding great bears.  Needed to kill one more to get materials for a hugely better armor for Sera.  Spent  hours and hours in the Emerald Graves questing and exploring and never found one.  Eventually, many levels later, found better armor in a loot.  Disapointing.

I don't know how I missed these infamous murder bears, and I explored the Hinterlands pretty extensively. All the bears I found were pretty easy to get rid of.

"See these murder bears. They are misunderstood creatures who are being hunted down by people who see them as only threats, not realizing what they really are or how important they are. However there is something you can do. You can donate to the Stop the Murder of Murder Bears Foundation. For less than a sovereign a day, you can preserve these wonderful animals in their natural habitat. Please donate today."
