Romanced em both, maybe that makes me cliche. Or shallow, oh well old god babies and pirates arghh

Hey I do rather like Morrigan some of them times but I just found it annoying when she was ******** at you for doing things that could benefit you and help you out on your main quest, even though they were side distractions, but then when you get to orzamaar and you are doing actual useless side quests that did not really benefit you at all...like Berkel and the Chantry...like Dagna...not a single peep from her.  I really wanted to like her, and I do to an extent, but she is just so inconsistant at times and just seems to dissaprove over the most random stuff.

My dear Vordish,

First of all I must mention that I deeply regret stumbling upon this thread when perusing these dreadful 'forums', if one might even call them that, and found it to be so full of hostile comments towards my character. Truly, it pains my heart to see such an impugnation on a website that, as far as I've been told, is for the fans of BioWare's work and its characters. It especially saddens me to see that such an esteemed member of the online sphere such as yourself would spread such bitter and jaundiced comments about me, right when we all find ourself in perilous times. After all, it seems that those aspiring to godhood have tried so hard to achieve their goal that left nothing but death and ruin in their wake.

Tried and failed, I must remind you, for it was the Inquisition that stopped this threat. An organization of which I am a part, my dear, as you very well know. Since we've reached the subject, it occurs to me; why would such a prestigious ally in the war against Coyrpheus, for that is the name the threat has evidently been given, care for the, quite frankly yawn-inducing opinions of an individual such as yourself? I see no accomplishment on your behalf, besides being able to use words such as 'loathing' and ' despicable' in coherent sentences, a feat rarely seen on forums such as this one. But then, evidently, there's your absolutely atrocious use of interpunction and the unforgivable absence of an apostrophe. I'll leave it up to you to figure out where exactly this horrible incident occurs.

Most sincerely,

Hating her is rather juvenile considering she's probably the most realistic character in the game.

I actually had to re-read his post for fear that I may have misinterpreted it.  Nope.  Illogical nonsense.

Vivienne without question was morally driven first and foremost, and if it aligned with her ambitions,  all the merrier.  She helped prepare, in her own way, the inquisition for how others might perceive them.  She is the most realistic of the bunch, a strong willed woman who knows what she wants and cares very little about what anyone else thinks.  As well as she should!

She is so ambitious I find it repulsive,  but that doesn't mean I don't respect her character a great deal.  Her reasoning for keeping circles,  her shrewd sense of explaining why Cassandra would make the better divine without once mentioning herself was pitch perfect.  Not overbearing,  but just enough to influence and motivate.  So like her, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Listening to her verbally rip to shreds anyone who stood in her way was glorious.  I'm going to say it...  think the OP is petrified of a woman who knows what she wants and knows how to get it. Vivienne scares me and I love it!

Really? Everyone loves Vivienne? Wow, this is more surprising than the number of people that love Sera.

I thought both characters were poorly written caricatures. They were so cliche and misrepresentational I honestly thought it was intentional. Well, maybe with Sera it was more obvious - the game asks you repeatedly if you want to kick her out. I thought Vivienne was only there to be the faux-authoritarian caricature counterpoint to Sera's faux-anarchic caricature. I thought that's why her personal quest was so thin, it's like it was literally written in 15 minutes. Right? Because there was nothing personal to her character? So there was like no effort put into her writing?

I'm kind of flabbergasted that it was enough for everyone. Neither of them worked for me. Just too thin.

It sounds like you are easily flabbergasted and may want to be examined by a medical professional.

Let me see if I have this straight... because the character wasn't written the way you wanted it to be written you found it to be quite shallow and was nothing more than a charicature of say Francis Underwood?  Assuming you didn't find that role also poorly written...

What would have made Vivienne a deeper character for you?  If she broke down and professed her love for your character and promised to give up all her ambition just for you?

i actually loved the character Vivienne, I thought she was very different from all the other mages we have seen in the game so far. She is a very opinionated woman and she tells the inquisitor straight up that she is aligning with them because she wants a hand in shaping the world. So you know first up that she is only there to help herself. She isn't ultrusitic in her motivations but i am okay with that, at least she is honest. Not like some other companions who lie, and use you. At least with her you know you are being used.

That's because Viv isn't a typical everyday authoritarian figure.

She can be very nurturing, has clear insights from a Mage perspective on the Mage Templar War that are not coming from an emotional knee jerk response and her Side Quest shows she doesn't have a heart of Stone either.

Get to know Viv instead of picking her up and never speaking with her, she's worth the time

Before I played the game, I expected Vivienne to be my least favorite companion by far.  Just based on her descriptions, she sounded like she was a "worst of both worlds" from the DAO mages: all the Circle-Stockholm-"the rules are paramount for everyone but not me I'm special" of Wynne combined with the self-serving misanthropy of Morrigan.

Then I actually got a chance to recruit and use her...

Aside from her being rather shallow. She's mainly with the inquisition for political gain. She says "we need the circles" and wants to keep them in their current state, not because she actually believes in them, but because that's where the heart of her power is. If the circle is gone, she's irrelevant again. She plays yes man for the chantry and says the other mages should just stay in their place. While simultaneously she's running around in a huge palace mingling with the nobility and basically getting free reign to do whatever she wants. She says "Mages are dangerous" then will use her magic against civilians over petty gripes just to make herself look more dangerous and intimidating. She's a hypocrite, she's manipulative, and she cares primarily for her own political power.

Her arguing with Solas 100% of the time constantly talking down to him like she knows so much more, and all the while she's actually talking to a god basically sums up her character. She's blindly arrogant.

All that being said, I don't really hate her.

Basically this - except the last line. Well, I don't *Hate* her, so much as strongly dislike. Everything from her party dialogue, to the Not-So-Secret reasons she joined the Inquisition just rubbed me wrong.

In fact, I've only recruited her in 1/3 of my current playthroughs. And I doubt I'll be recruiting her in further ones. Simply to save myself from speaking with her.

She's well written, and realistic. Which is why I realistically dislike her.

As for the topic at hand, I'm afraid I never got much of an impression from her at all, so I can't say much. She was perma-glitched; she never had a single banter fire off with anyone, anywhere, no matter where I brought her. And no matter how often I tried, she never gave me any cinematic conversations, either. Except her companion quest. And then again, nothing.

So 99% of the game my only was, "any chance we might..." Which I never picked, so whoops.

Can't say.

I liked her, I wouldn't trust her further than I could throw her but I was truly surprised on what she wanted that snowy wyvern heart, I honestly thought it was for something nefarious instead of what she needed it for.

I kid you not, I like strong characters, in that regard she is well written. Snobbery is another matter entirely. I do not want someone who will solo a dragon with me then complain about needing a wash. That **** does not fly with me.

Vivienne's nice. Wish she had more writing though. She lacks interactions. No Wicked Grace. No Chess Game with Cullen or Dorian. Doesn't pop up in another person's sidequest like Cole or get special dialogue like Dorian/Solas when on Bull's quest.

What? No. I think you're projecting a little, here, aren't you? I did not criticize ambitious characters. And my complaints about her had nothing to do with how much or how little she interacted with or devoted herself to my character. I strongly dislike sycophants.

Please be a little less sensitive and defensive.
