I utterly despise Vivienne. With a passion.

Actually if you're on good terms with Vivi and ask her why she won't tell you she pretty much says that if you asked her to do something she'd do it because she respects you and she'd keep it to herself for the same reason. I found that touching.

...but didn't you just asked her to do something (to tell you why she need the ingredients)? :)

For me I dislike her because it feel like she rolled 20 on her intimidate check with the inquisitor and it's just frustrating to talk to her (and that is dsregarding certain scene). Actually at first I quite liked her - when she tells you that knowledge is the most important thing for a mage. But she just can't compromise and goes right to the extreme (prefer circles as prisons instead of them beng specal schools)...

....actually there is nothing wrong with character with strong (even if wrong in your PC's opinion) beliefs so maybe I just dislike my inquisitor's interactions with her and not her..so much. But Bioware do that from time to time so why I am surprised I don't know:)

Edit: is there some way to kick her (low approval or something) after you have recruited her?

Um, okay.  May I see a link to this quest please?  I did choose that option in dialogue, and never saw a quest like that.  It would have stood out in my mind. I still have no idea what you are talking about.

Nothing personal, but I do ask folks to cite their sources on occasions like this.

quest is called "favors the first enchanter" in the description of the quest...she wants you to find and recover phylacteries and tomes lost when the circles fell. I'm not going to find phylacteries for that b so she can put mages in a circle again; hell to the no.

Ah, I looked up the quest description.   You agreed to help her reform the Circles and she made it very clear from the start that she was traditionally pro-Circle.  She never makes any bones about it.

Look, I don't care if you dislike the character or not.  It's your business and I don't think anyone is right or wrong in their opinions of her.  To each their own.   Still though, her having you track down phylacteries that apostates forgot to destroy when the dropped the tomes shouldn't have been any big surprise.

I don't think so, no.  I do think you can drive her out though.

That reminds me of something I wrote...shoot, back in April I think.  Looking back, I think I really nailed the tone of the banter between Sera and Vivienne as what ended up being shown in the game.  The concept behind the imagined banter was that Sera had heard about the Elder/Poet Tree, and had proceeded to annoy the entire party with it.  I have a few, but this one comes to mind.

Spoiler

Oh, I remember this.

Brilliant how it's managed to hold up so well, considering how little we knew about the respective characters when you wrote this.

Thanks hun.   You helped inspire those, after all.  ;)

Actually, all of them held up pretty well, when I was reading them over.  Vivienne's was the easiest for me, for some reason.  I think it's because the pre-lease info really gave me a lot to work with.

The Iron Bull haiku style bit took me two weeks.  My husband was chuckling at me, because I kept muttering and counting the number of syllables.  I'm going to have to repost those sometime.

I'll add mines too(already have in other freds)... one word describes the char "Condescending". She reminds me of my meeting with the AK Assassin droid in Kotor... "condescending: Master blah blah blah".

I like Vivienne quite a bit, actually. Granted, I tend to favour the ruthless and pragmatic nature of the nobility as I find intrigue to be incredibly interesting. I absolutely adored the portion of the game that took place in the Winter Palace!

My character ended up getting along well with her rather naturally so she approved of how he chose to be diplomatic and how he adhered to etiquette.

I tried to look it up but I've found nothing to suggest that Vivienne can leave the Inquisition after her recruitment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Kind of cruel, though. You can make Dorian, one of the most popular companions in the game (if the BSN is anything to go on), leave forever but Vivienne, "that B***", doesn't give you that possibility. It's diabolical, almost.

I wouldn't have minded her if the way she spoke didn't feel so condescending, her opinions isn't my problem but more the attitude. Well written character still.

I thought she left if your approval was low enough, but it seems like I'm possibly wrong on this one.

Umm, I've heard different accounts from other players with regards to Dorian.  Apparently he'll at least stay "until the enemy is dead," no matter how much approval you lose with him.  Having strep isn't exactly the greatest for my mental cognizance, so please forgive me if I'm wrong on this one.

there is a scene in which he leaves earlier but the player need to punch him to trigger it.

Yes that is an odd thing to exclude....especially after/with the scene where she move your furniture....I wonder why? And why she dared to. Maybe she have somethng important that the inquisitor needs or she believes she is important enought to go toe to toe (metaphorcally speaking ofc....although she might be arrogant enought to think she can overpower the PC) with him/her?

...or she is simply bluffing....

Racist misogynistic and wrong. Just thought I'd say how this thread will look in an hour so you can prep.

So its racist to dislike a character just because they happen to have dark skin?

Okay then...

To be fair, Vivienne's attitude is very much a result of the sort of lifestyle she's used to. You don't survive for very long in Orlais if you don't play the Game, and that is essentially what she's doing. She has her own motivations and goals which is what makes her interesting - far more than the characters that simply fawn over everything the player character does, in my opinion.

Love her or hate her she makes for a strong ally, both politically and in terms of her magical capabilities. Much like Gaspard and Celene she's arrogant but again, that's just due to the nature of Orlais. Her concept wouldn't work if she was like Wynne because those sort of individuals don't tend to endure Orlais' political scene for very long.

I find the argument stupid as well.  As a few people more or less said, when I hate a character, skin tone is the furthest thing from my mind.  I hated Jacob's actions between ME2-ME3 and the fact that he wasn't white had zero to do with it.

Yes, he will almost always stay until Corypheus has been defeated, but if you punch him during the low approval-dialogue he'll be like: "I'm outta here!". Here's a link to a YouTube video of it: https://www.youtube....h?v=6sqb30p-3Pk

(Poor Dorian :( I'd never do that)

She's challenging you, seeking your limits. She both wants to know how far she can go in an Inquisition where she isn't loved, as well as let you as the Inquisitor know that she shall not be trifled with.

Between that and the video I just watched of an Inquisitor throwing Sera out of the party, you can be a royal jerk to your party it seems.

I could never do that to Dorian either.  He's my buddy.  :(

Dorian has been my go to source for assistance for dressing up appropriately for Cass.  What a gangsta! Buddies for life. Though Cass never seems to notice :(  I tried reading her poetry once and she shoved me...   yeah...

Make sense..and I am happy that it have the option for you to be "Whatever - be childish. I am out of here. I have more important things to do." But where is the choice for us to kick her (maybe cunning rogue can outsmart her?)? I can picture the scene:

The cam is suddenly in the courtyard looking up and we see and follow the flight of one hairless female human....before she go "splat":))

 Beautifull....

....but the game was probably already too big and BW chose to ignore that little option...oh well...DLC I hope....

Ha! And people say you can't be a douche in this game...

I might do a playthrough with a JerkQuisitor sometime. I'm doing one of DA:O right now (in which almost everyone dies/leaves the party...).

Nah... that wouldn't be a fitting way for Vivienne to go.

Granted, I don't see Vivienne going anyway, even if you 'insisted on it'. So maybe that's why BioWare never gave us the option.

Oh you absolutely can. Try only picking the middle dialogue option for a while. I guess it was supposed to be the humorous option and some of the lines are funny but all in all you just sound like an absolute b*tch/douchebag.

Can she actually stop us by that point? In Heaven (I hope that was the name) definitely. But when you get that scene (unless you unlock it right after gong to Skyhold)?

Edit: And about why BW chose not to give us that/agressive  option - I prefer to go with the idea that the game was just too big and they found themselves over their heads.

You mean if Vivienne could stop you from kicking her out?

If you use enough force and violence, perhaps not. But if you're on your own in her room, threatening her... knowing Vivienne, you better not :P
