She joined the Inquisition so she can get her hands in power. That's what I felt. I really hate her. She's a venomous spider, grr!

No idea why you are surprised by this when she straight up tells you that is why she is joining.

Keep in mind how high level you are when you go to kill it though, I was between level 15 and 20 when I did so I could have likely cut down a company of Chevaliers and have time for tea and crumpets afterwards. Having done that Quest I say that the duke death did hit her harder than anything else that's happened but she's not the sort who would show such a thing in public and especially not to someone powerful like the inquisitor.

Yes, that is true. I've also been thinking about the possibility that the heart wasn't actually intended as a cure, but as poison. Maybe Vivienne and Bastien had agreed that the disease was too much for him,and he was suffering. It had to end, and the disease was incurable anyway. So they planned to 'put him out his misery', if you will. When Vivienne gives him the potion, the Duke does seem like he's at peace with death.

"It will be alright, my love."

And afterwards, Vivienne makes it so that the Duke's immediate family feels like the Inquisitor tried to save him, and she establishes a connection between them and the Inquisition to give it more power.

Yet what lies behind that 'facade', that mask that she presents in true Orlesian fashion, is also a caring person. One that, if inspected close enough, actually seems to care about Cole. yet Vivienne does not want to admit that. Why? Because it's a weakness. In the Game. And when playing the Game, showing a weakness is the equivalent of jumping into the abyss. It will ruin you.

Yeah the part about Vivienne coming across the dead body of a woman killed by the rebels was also interesting, It explains her absolute vitriol towards the rebels. She sees them as people who killed innocents just to get what they want, her failing is that this is blaming the entire rebellion for the actions of what was probably a minority but it's understandable. I really don't believe her opposition to the rebellion was entirely based on self interest.

yes, shes kinda also useless D:

I beg to differ. Her specialization makes her one of the most powerful companions in combat.

Vivienne is the ambitious character. I'm wondering aloud if her ambition turns some off more than anything. She does have a shot for power, and to come out on top as the Divine. At the very least being a member of the Inqusitor's inner circle doesn't hurt her in the department of influence and power.

I give props to anyone who can turn a nothing job into a position of power, and continue to grab more authority. Kinda has a Dynasty-esque angle to the situation with Vivienne.

I think what primarily turns people off is not her ambition, but her b*tchy attitude. Some might fail to recognize it as being a (by-)product of her having played the Game for so long, some might just be annoyed by it and nothing more. Which I do understand, but it's a bit sad that most don't seem to get at what's beneath all that.

Vivienne can be perceived as a bit complex. After all, she is a player of Game, and one must understand the Game in order to fully understand Madame de Fer.

Vivienne is the kind of person who fits the term: If you can't beat them, join them.

Meaning its better to have her on my team than on the side of the enemy. But only for this reason.

She's a snob!

I wish i could like this 1000 times.

She's my favorite mage to have due to this specialization alone.

I quite like her. She reminds me of Viconia. Though of course, no female character can begin to compare to our lovely flower of the Underdark.

She is kind of icy. I suppose in her element (Orlais), she'd be common place where sniping is expected. The cutting people down on a regular basis, would be tiring for us, but that's a nation where the people never let up against each other.

The Game. It sounds really crazy. That's possibly why she and Dorian get along so well. They love the exchanges. I loved hearing them.

That reminds me that I'd love to see more of Orlais. The nobles, the commoners, the everything. Something about an over the top world where people live and die by the Game.

Ya Vivienne is power hungry but reasonable with her logic.

Only relationship I have for her is a hate/respect type relationship due to her high and mighty personality she uses but has reasonable logic with her actions.

Though I can never support her as Divine since she does nothing to prevent corruption within the Templar ranks from happening again since she believes there was nothing wrong with the old Templar Order when there was and mostly behind the close doors of the Circle.

She's haughty, pretentious, rude, and spiteful. I certainly don't 'like' her as a person, but as a character, I think she's pretty freaking great.

There is something wonderful about the Game. I loved Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts so much because of it, and kind of hope we'll get to experience more of the Game by way of DLC. Hopefully in Val Royeaux itself. Maybe at the Divine's coronation? Ooh, I like that idea.

Using "the Game" as an excuse doesn't really justify her bad attitude.  After all, she could have chosen not to play.  The fact that she got involved in the first place also means she was predisposed to certain behavior in the first place.

I actually like a character a lot, although I think her personal quest was a little weak. I love her banter with Morrigan at the Mythal Temple and also Cole.

Vivienne has a really snobbish side sure but most of her reasons to support the Mage circles are base on good reasoning and I respect her for that, even if personally I disagree with a lot of her ideas. Also she reminds me a lot of Philippa Eilhart from The WItcher 2 which is another favorite of mine.

It's not an excuse, and I didn't really mean it that way either. What I meant was that Vivienne, after having been a player of the Game for so long, has now made that attitude she had to have against nobles her own, and it's become hers. But it is a (by)product of playing the Game, even when she isn't actually playing it. I know, she could choose not to play, but she did. And people can choose to hate it, if they want. I probably wouldn't like Vivienne on a personal level if I were another companion in the game, if she were so mean to me, but I do think she's a great character, one worthy of my respect.

Bioware,

You have apparently designed her character very well to evoke such strong loathing from me concerning this character. I find her to be utterly despicable, rude and downright insulting.

Sera said it right; She is a b*****. So did Blackwall. She is a snake.

It has been a long while since Ive hated a character so much. Good job on that.

/rant off.

PS; people made a "slap morrigan" mod for DAO. I want one for this game called "Slap that Bi*** Vivienne"

Welcome to the club.

I don't think Blackwall really has the right to talk bad about others tbh.
