Boring? I actually found these two to be some of the most interesting companions we've had in the series. Funnily enough, they can, at times, be two sides of the same coin. Both are slightly 'elitists', and can be quite condescending if you disagree with their point of view. Solas's views on the fade and spirits are unlike anything we have been presented with before. His character pretty much makes you second guess every piece of known lore we've received. I see that he could come off as boring, if you only look at the surface level, but that is kind of the point to his character. He isn't supposed to appear as flashy, demonstrative, or threatening. Trickster archetypes are never the characters who are supposed to attract attention, not until they are revealed, that is. Vivienne, on the other hand, appears to be rather petty and narrow-minded. I think she is the type of character that you either love or despise. She has a way to get under your skin, either way, but I believe that there is something more to her character that I have not seen yet. She does show a more affectionate side on her personal quest, and yet, even with the death of her apparent love, she manages to use it to her advantage. She is, by definition, the ruthless social climber. I suspect that she has very viable reasons for being the way she is, however, as we all do. And I do feel saddened for her at times. She has her moments of letting her guard down, and saying something oddly comforting, but I do not doubt that she would not hesitate to step over anyone that got in her way. Despite my general dislike of her, I still believe she was a wonderful character.
