What affects who becomes the divine? I did everything I could to discourage Cas and Vivienne and encouraged Leliana at every turn, telling her that I supported her for the position. However when I got to the ending Vivienne ended up being the divine. I really don't want to start the game over, but it's going to constantly bug me if that's the state I have to carry over into dlc, any idea why Viv took over?
Question about the ending

Same problem i supported leiliana discouraged cassandra and vivienne still ended up with vivienne as divine. There was no option on the war table to pick between them either which was strange because i got one for vivienne when i supported her in my previous game.

Maybe certain decisions throughout the game influence who becomes divine more than you encouraging them or not? I wanted Leliana but got Cass instead.

Here is a mini-explanation by Gaider. If that helps.
What idiot came up with that? Bloody ridiculous.
Edit: So i can side with Briala and support leiliana and save the mages but because i conscripted them for allying with an evil mage who tried to destroy the world vivienne gets to be divine?

That helps a lot, I recruited the templars this playthrough so guess I'm going to have to start over after all.
