The Lightning AE from Fiona deals LOT of damage. You must leave this area asap or you will die. An rogue with stealth can kill her with jars of bees but any class without stealth will be melted by her attacks or from the archers. I have done this fight with an group of 4 where the tank taunted her and running big circles to avoid her AE attack. The other 3 party members killed the archers and other adds as fast as possible. Than you can lockdown fiona and finish her. I do not see an way how to achieve this with solo mage or solo warrior. The archers alone will melt you and your kill speed as an single player is not good enough to burn them down. I don't know what happens if you postpone this fight until Lvl12+ but I guess at least Fiona will be also on your Lvl and her attacks are even more deadly. And the trash archers are also no pushovers at Lvl12+.

Afaik: The last Haven quest are between level 9-11. This means the enemies cap out at level 11, regardless if you are 12 or 13.

you can postpone it to be outleveling her , wearing tier 2 crafted gear with runes and stuff.
and fighting her at least being lvl 13. (2 levels above).
Jars make her out of picture as she going to venture under panic effect. If you have 4 jars, you have nice free time from here. And 2nd slot could be used to deal with adds.

With mage you can probably just run away with fade step and then try to pull ads from far range without engaging her. 1 on 1 shouldn't be too difficult. Anyway that's just theorycrafting and I don't have the patience to redo hinterlands once more just to test it out.

I want to see the Duo with two mages. Someone out there should be willing to take up the challenge. Anyone want to give that a try?

I'd probably go insane fighting templars in Hinterlands! The one with shields block spells and pretty much 2-shot you.
Not fun!

Nah, these are easy even as a solo mage. Shield blocks only projectiles, which a lot of the best spells aren't. With Barrier and fade step you're more or less invulnerable to melee as far as survivability goes. Archers are far more annoying but doable.

They are so weak to CC, and their shields wont help with Static Cage

You don't got static cage and damage at level 3-4, at which you fight templars.

Level 3-4 build:
Immolate+
Barrier
Fade step (+ upgrade if enough points)

You can skip plot fight and go for random traveling and fight smaller groups of mages and templars and so, till you get cage.
But, anyways , that should not be an issue unles you solo or duo. if you 4 man party you just slpa them in the face, no matter what. You cc them with Cassandra/Varric, or have extra barrier or Winter Grasp from Solas. This should not be issue in 4man party
Indeed, if you rush towards first big templar encounter as lvl 3 as duo/solo you will get cranked. Even then its possible to win as duo.

The big templar "fight" is their stronghold, which you really got to get down as soon as you can, to avoid getting random templar fights as you move around the Hinterlands.
This area consist of 3 archers, 2 shielded knights, 3(or is it 4?) non shielded knights and a leader-type.
But yes, this was regarding the duo-mage setup. I was not saying it would be impossible, just that I would not enjoy fighting the templars early-game!
Obviously on a 4-man setup it's a piece of cake, but that is besides the point.

That place is easy. You can simply devide and conquer. You can aggro those by portions, and kill them divided.

The answer to this is fire wall and fire mine, makes it easy.

Im trying to find a better spec then the dual fire mine mages i listed in the op, Im really struggling. My main is a rift mage im just struggling to find some more effective combo's with it.
I mean i can fire mine effectively without the pull, if anyone has any other ideas i would like to hear them, im currently trying templar/rift.
But it doesnt do as much damage as dual fire mine.
Next thing i will try is a fire/panic mage and a tempest- should be so many auto crits. i Worry that the aoe will be lack luster though

You should go forth and try rift with tempest. The amount of combos you can pull easily converts in decentvdamage and some of it AOE. Take Sera with KP and MK. Grab WG, Dispell and SC later and see what you can do. Make Sera DW, with flank attack . other option is archer Sera with same setup and long shot only. Need evade though to be able to work in closer range with KP.Im trying to find a better spec then the dual fire mine mages i listed in the op, Im really struggling. I like it. Cc and combos rock.

Also, I guess the Fereldan Frostback is likely out of question until later in the game.
I think the Nightmare difficulty lacks challenge indeed, but I won't be trying a duo unless we get some DLC giving us powerful gear at early game, similarly as we had for the previous two installments.

Damn, going through Fallows Mire -> Beacons in the Dark -> Terror fest with a pre-Skyhold undergeared duo must be a total pain.

Yeah beacons in the dark was very hard, mainly due to the adds, multiple level 12 corpse archers just smash you.
I literally just finished the fereldan frostback, i was level 13 he was 12. It was embarrasing for him he got absoultey spanked.
I just ran blackwall( could have been cass) and respec to frost mage made the world of difference went down 1st time. Honestly could have done it a few levels ago.

Beacons doable with really tough tank, alot of Forces perks (schematics)/Val Royaux shop, Paragon Luster stuff and rogue or mage. You need CC, and alot of it.
Adds are dealt with using Antivan Fire + Jars as duo.
You do one beacon at time starting with full load of fire + bees.
You may need some stackng of ranged defence.
