I dont seen many people proclaim the power of the almighty 2H Mauls/Hammers. I have had some experience on the subject and thought i should share. Here are a few reasons to give them a try.

Note: Below statement are typically true when Compared to 2h axe/sword of same tier.

A. While i cant confirm the difference in speed mauls swings at a noticable faster swing  rate than the Axe/Sword Counterparts.+

B. When an enemy is out of AA range mauls seem 2 take bigger and faster steps to get back into range.+

C. Do more damage to a single target with AA.+ (Better for crushing squishy target with low armor.)

D. Do more damage skills and abilities.++ (Example- More health back from Devour or DOT damage from ROP.)

Personally after discovering this i carry a Maul and Sword/Axe with me at all times.(When you have enough materials to do is try it.)

Not many threads that discuss this topic. So please join in.

Finally, just wanna give a shout out 2 BW as this is a nice touch in the game.

Swords and axes does AoE damage.

As a test:

Brutal Flanking Halberd, T2 greataxe made with Canine Leather and iron - 156 dps, 138 AoE damage.(also got 6% attack!)

Flanking War hammer, T2 Hammer made with Canine Leather and iron - 122 dps, 121 single target damage.

It seem like the hammer needs to hit faster to balance out, though that wouldn't explain why 2 identical Tier 2 weapons of different type for this big paper-dps difference!

B. When an enemy is out of AA range mauls seem 2 take bigger and faster steps to get back into range.+

I havn't seen that. Though I tend to be in combat, and when out of range I combat roll in.

C. Do more damage to a single target with AA.+ (Better for crushing squishy target with low armor.)

Given it doesn't do AoE, I do hope this is the case. Otherwise hammers/mauls are useless!

D. Do more damage skills and abilities.++ (Example- More health back from Devour or DOT damage from ROP.)

Any proof on this? It seemed rather balanced. I saw equal damage from both Mauls and Greatswords.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, using the gear you made, Math, the Halberd would result in more damage with skills. Skill damage is based on Weapon *Damage*, not DPS, so the weapon with higher damage will cause more damage when using talents. DPS is primarily important when auto-attacking.

I wish i had those schematics anywho.

After doing some fact checking of on my part weapons Axes/Mauls/Swords all do the same damage. The reason for the difference in dps is material. As in your test you did use the same material but unfortunately what we cant change in schematics is the # of req material used to make our weapons.

This is my mistake for not clarifying what i meant. I didnt mean you actually move or walk faster to your target outright. What I should of said was something for like "  Mauls AA makes more forward progress vice Sword/Axe." While this isn't a drastic change i find myself completing basic combo and not missing the last swing of my combo.

My first Statement at the top about your test. Explains why they are even. Good Post Matth85
