I'm having extreme trouble with this game. Playing a warrior, I've just started but have dield like five times already. Enemies are every where, can take a huge amount of damage and my entire party is made of glass. It just seems impossible to beat anything. All my characters run out af stamina/mana and the enemies have like more than 60% health left.

I guess I'm missing something but I just can't understand how you are supposed to handle combat. I'm just chipping away the enemie's health while they take large chunks of it. Just now, a pack gigant spiders absolutely decimated my party and I didn't kill even one of them.

The game can be hard, so don't beat yourself up about dropping the difficulty until you get the hang of combat.

Combat will generally run smoothly if you master 1) efficient builds, and 2) companion tactics.

For the first, here are 2 good warrior builds:

For the second, try to least skimming the first page in this thread:

Might as well ask also if I'm completely off to go S&B tanky type Hawke. I've seem to recall that Aveline is a perfectly viable tank. The reason is that I've been thinking about running a DW rogue instead as I really don't enjoy the 2H type warrior.

Edit: Hmm, just got hold of some better items in Gamlen's house and things went abit smoother. Perhaps my equipment wasn't up to snuff.

Oh yes, you do need to keep on top of your gear. You'll out-level it so quickly.

As far as S&B warriors go, yes Aveline is a fantastic tank. That doesn't necessarily mean it'd be a waste for you to go S&B as well (you can still get a decent DPS as a S&B warrior). The first post I linked to gives a great S&B build that'll have you dishing out tonnes of damage.

DW rogue is amazing for DPS, but it's a very different playstyle. It's the sneaky glass canon, rather than the stout warrior who can take a pounding.

So how do I know when to update my items? I'm trying the ruined passage and getting totaly ripped to pieces again. Only level six but spiders, arcane horrors and corpses just swarm my party and kill everyone in like five seconds. Is it just trial and error on every area and come back later?

Basically, when all your items have one or two stars next to their name you should start looking for replacements.

Also, that particular fight is quite tough on higher difficulties.

It's pertinent in this and Nightmare that you keep your party coordinated and minimalize them getting too unfocused.

And how do I do this? Doesn't matter what I do, enemies are all over the place and just go straight for my weakest members. How can I coordinate anything when they are dead in five seconds?

Nearly everything I have is five stars. Also, I tried it out on Normal difficulty with the same result. Team got wrecked to pieces. It seems playing a SnB tank type isn't really viable. I can take quite a beating but the monsters doesn't really care. They go straight fo my weakest party members and pretty much ignore me.

Aside from using Taunt, Pommel Strike and Shield Bash as a tank, make sure to set in Tactics for your rogues to use Evade, and your mages - Mind Blast when surrounded by 2-3 enemies. If you have other melees in your group, upgrade Battle Synergy toggle to transfer aggro from nearby allies onto you. If you still having troubles, level Armistice and Goad on your rogues.

Well, I already have the tactics set in pretty much that way but it isn't enough. The enemies are too many or come in several waves. Everything is on cool down when the rest just swarm on me.

On a whim, I respeced to a 2H warrior and that turned everything topsy turvy. Now I'm almost one-shotting stuff instead. Seems it's like I thought. It's pretty much about dishing out damage, making a tankish Hawke somewhat lackluster.

I have to disagree there.  I've played every class type, on Nightmare, to the completion of the game, and SnS is no less viable than any other build.

I can't say for sure what is going wrong, without seeing what you are doing, but it sounds like either you haven't set up your tactics optimally, or your talent choices are not helping Hawke to tank for other party members effectively.  Taunt should be able to control the aggro of the vast majority of mobs, allowing focus fire from the other party members to bring down whatever is in Hawke's face.  All other party members, unless you're using Isbaella as your rogue, should be set to the ranged pre-set behaviour, and then tinkered with to ensure they can set up and detonate combos or CC/de-aggro enemies who get in melee range without micromanagement.

I've followed this guide: http://forum.bioware...dded-june-17th/ and it's for Nightmare. Seem like what ever I do, the total damage output is too low. The party simply runs out of resources way before the mobs are killed. Their health bars barely flicker, even with five-star gear.

It would be best if you stay away from Hightown then, because in Hightown--there is no room for softies. B)
