My question was the title of this topic. I was really curious to how Varric looks like, if he kept the shard. I heard something about him becoming possessed by the shard, but later on I never heard anything about it.
Isn't there a video out there showing how Varric looks if he kept the shard

He locks his shard in a vault for study. Nothing bad happens to him.

Several vaults, actually. Nested inside each other.
And no one is allowed to touch the shard, Nor even examine it for more than an hour per week.

With the option to reject Cole and kick out Sera, having Varric + shard would leave you with no rogue skills in the party at all if your PC is not one, which you need to complete some quests. Cassandra and Solas at least guarantee one warrior and mage. So if they scrapped an idea for bigger consequences from this decision, it's understandable.

A vault inside a vault inside a vault inside several more vaults that are inside each other...
Got to give Varric credit. I would of just chucked it into the sea lol.

So the fact we are walking around TONS of the stuff with no consequences is ok? Why make a big deal about how dangerous it is to be around? Idk maybe I'm just asking for to much.
Well, it took months for it to affect Meredith. So long as we're not ingesting the stuff, crossing paths with it now and again isn't too bad.

Well we have no real timeline in DA:I, but it still seems like a convenient oversight on BW's part.

Quite so. While there is a definite aesthetic change when one does not swoop in to rescue the sorry tin-cans' lot and chooses to go with the mages, other than that there is no impact of the stuff being spread across several locations. Some sort of debuff around the things surely would not have been impossible, would it.

Well everyone and their brother knows how dangerous the stuff is now so hopefully the red lyrium arc is over and we can move onto the final 2 old gods or something.

I heard Solas can leave you though?

I agree with this statement. Like with all the damn red lyrium my inquisitor's been standing on this gameplay I should start to glow in the dark or something. Well, moreso.
But fade sex.
ew lol

We wander around the Deep roads but none of the companions get the blight (in Origins) but as soon as you do it in DA2. Bethany or Carver gets the taint

My theory is that the red lyrium we see all over the place in DAI is less 'concentrated' than the idol. It doesn't seem to make houses haunted or summon golems, and casual exposure doesn't turn anyone in the party into a raving lunatic. The only people badly affected by it are the ones that are actually eating the stuff. Nor does the average Red Templar end up with Meredith level superpowers.

Well at least I now what happens. It is a bit odd though, I thought that Varric had equipped the shard onto Bianca. I actually thought that the 2nd alternate card would show it, but apparently it's for something else then. Thanks anyway for answering my question.

Carver definitely deserves it. Hated that guy to the core.

I'll admit that I'm a little disappointed that the "spoiler" going around that if Varric kept the shard then he'd be a puppet controlled by a possessed Bianca wasn't true. It would have been awesomely dark.
