Abelas

"Abe"

Class: Mage. Signs point to him being an Arcane Warrior.

I would love for Abelas to be our next male elven companion. Reasons (spoilers possible):

1. He would be a good source of conflict for the elven people, because
Spoiler

2. He would be a good source of resolution for the elven people. Maybe a change of heart would bring this about. It all depends on the developers' and the story they want to tell.

3. Abelas is a different kind of elf, compared to the others we've encountered: Starting with the most recent, Solas is somewhat of an outsider - that's, tragically, putting it lightly. There's much more to him, and I advise visiting the Solas thread to learn more. Sera is a contemporary separatist; aka modernized (shemlan-ized?) anti-elf type. Merrill was your textbook Dalish, albeit inexperienced and oblivious when it came to her own people. Fenris was a city elf, enslaved by mages and resentful of his own kind. And Zevran was estranged from his own culture, but held a bit of reverence for the Dalish due to childhood nostalgia. Abelas appears to be, from what little we've seen of him, an historical enigma. Is he immortal? Is he one of the ancient elves - a walking relic? Or is he just a temple cultist? Regardless, he's different from the other elves we've had as companions. I'd really like to bring this character out of the woodwork as a companion.

4. Apparently Morrigan is able to attack (kill?) him in some playthroughs. It's a good thing people are able to come back to life (Leliana) when killed in sacred temples. Also, stabbings don't guarantee death. Morrigan, of all people, should know better.

Here is a link to an Abe appreciation thread. This thread is also an appreciation thread of sorts, but mostly this OP is here to ask the BioWare audience if they would like Abe as a companion. Let's brainstorm reasons for companionship!

Good, good, more Abelas is good...

We do already have a thread, but I'd never say that two is too much.  http://forum.bioware...hread-spoilers/

Oh my! I had no idea. I didn't see it anywhere. This goes to show that this man MUST return! :D

Gah! Typos in the OP. Had to change this.

Honestly, if anyone posts reasons here to make him a companion, that would be great. I'd like to add more reasons to the list.

I've not seen that in any of my playthroughs. I tried double checking the wiki to see if he could be killed off but there was absolutely no mention of it. :/

Do you know anything about that at all?

Nah, eff the ancient elfs. Morrigan can kill him anyway.

If you don't follow the rituals and just pursue Calpernia/Samson, when you get to the well Morrigan kills him before he can attack you.

He will doubtless wander around muttering about primitives and 'in my cycle'. I approve.

It's a good thing you can come back to life when you're killed in a sacred temple. *cough* Leliana *cough*

Yes, Leliana that main character Vs. 'Abe' that guy who was there and gone in twenty minutes!

*hmm*

Would he wear that armor you meet him in?

If so, I'd have to say no...any character I play would be too......distracted.....to get anything done.

I'd love to see him return as a companion in the next game or something. I think he's got potential and looks interesting.

Do want. I think if we're going into more elfy territory it would be fun to have an ancient elf companion. I mean, we already kind of did but that's beside the point. His story could be interesting, seeing how he lives now that his duty is over due to the well being gone and seeing if he is able to find a new name as Solas suggests...

Potentially dead.

While interesting man for a companion, I think it's too risky to include him anywhere.

But, yeah. We need more Elf Bruhs.

I have nothing against Abelas, and I think him showing up in a future game or DLC would be great, but I wouldn't want him as a companion unless he's one gained fairly late in the game.

Abelas is obviously a very powerful individual. Not quite so much as Morrigan is now, but still powerful. I wouldn't want to see him busted down to level 4-7 for the sake of making him viable as a companion.

I know levels don't actually mean much of anything in terms of lore/story, but it's something that always nags at me when they do that.

Definitely if that's an issue for the writers, I wonder about selecting another ancient elf who served under Abe.

I agree. That is a much more bulletproof choice for them.

Much like old school soap operas, the writers are able to resurrect dead characters, but yeah. A slippery slope.

I wonder if any other sentinels escaped during the attack on the temple.

If all the sentinels are as fine as Abelas (with as fine a voice as well), I wouldn't mind if it was another guy.  Sorry, Abe...

But I think it would be better for them to just resurrect Abelas if he was killed by Morrigan because defining his personality has already begun.  Hey, maybe he was just knocked out.  There are no beheadings in this game.   :)

EDIT:  So I found this, since I have never killed Abelas in my games.  Yeah, he was stabbed.  Morrigan could also be stabbed in Witch Hunt and survive.  And Abelas was in Mythal's temple with a huge amount of power in him when he went down.  Honestly, I don't think it would be a stretch to say he survived.  Stab wounds don't always kill people.
