Back in DAO and DA2, I was all free-the-mages this, disband-the-templars that. Then Act III happened and everyone started getting posessed, and soon enough both sides have descended into violent fanaticism. By DAI, I was looking for a system that functions with minimal risk, whatever the cost. I've begun to feel that neither side is "right," and the templars and mages are equally corruptible. Between the two, I support neither. A third party is needed, and it seems like the Chantry is the best option for peace.  As we learned with the Treaty of Versailles after World War I, a one-sided peace rarely lasts.

There wouldn't be open warfare on the streets if it weren't for anders. That wasn't a domino, that was a brick.

And at the end of the day, the mages did not want this. They were all horrified that it came to that and that they were blamed for his actions. I don't care if it wasn't all Anders, what he did was still stupid as **** and totally pointless.

Anders is only significant in that he was the Tipping Point of the Mage Rebellion. Let's say Hawke actually has a spine and mercifully kills Anders a week before the Chantry goes up... You think Kirkwall would have lasted long in those conditions? Meredith plagued by red lyrium paranoia and Orsino enabling serial killers? Please. Kirkwall was done for way before Anders' stunt in Hightown as senseless and pointless as it was.

My Hawke didn't care for the mage rebellion, but fought for the mages almost entirely to save Bethany's life as she was in the circle. But yea Kirkwall was a fucked up place. both sides were horrible.

And so because conflict was inevitable, I'm supposed to what, hand wave his actions? And then hand wave fiona's and those that followed her after?

Him being the tipping point is the whole point. It should have started because the Templars struck first. Instead, the mages did in the eyes of Thedas, and it was an attack on the chantry, not just the templars. That to everyone else means an attack on THEM. Us vs them mentality immediately, all because of one idiot. Otherwise, more people would have been sympathetic.

I've already said he doesn't deserve a pass. But making him more important than he is (or a scapegoat) takes away from the larger issue in Kirkwall which is it's rampant corruption.

Well I disagree wholeheartedly that he's merely a scape goat considering he took it from **** to full blown violent unending diarrhea in an instant, which also made it pretty damn hard to negotiate later.

No it wasn't all Anders' fault. Meredith is the templars' Anders. But I don't support those douchebags either, so there's nothing to talk about there. No one's defending her or the templars.

If Kirkwall wasn't the shithole it was Anders wouldn't have been able to pull off what he did is what I'm getting at. Read the codices. That place is cursed. It's the Gotham City of Thedas where the only person that could have remotely resembled Batman didn't really give a **** until the Joker involved him by kidnapping his mom or sister.

And it's why I'm glad Sebastian is conquering that ****. Hopefully he evacs it's citizens to Starkhaven and levels it to the ground. Just to make sure.

This has nothing to do with what I'm saying though and doesn't change it. No one forced Anders to do a damn thing, not unless they wish to say it was because of the spirit. If you don't think Anders' actions were justified, then we have nothing to talk about. I already mentioned that I actually let him live, since as a mage I got where he was coming from. So I'm again not saying that I don't at all get it. I'm simply saying it was incredibly stupid, same as Fiona.

This we can at least agree on. I'm just saying that saying "it was all Anders' fault" is irresponsible and if I were an in game character I'd be scared as **** if that was the official stance. It means it's all doomed to repeat.

That's fine, but unlike what I'm assuming is the attitude of others who dislike him, I don't think it was all him. I mean, I hated this guy even before this. That was actually at the time somewhat redeeming of him to me because it took big hairy balls and was hilarious. No one hates anders like I do, lol, yet even I let him live. Power of roleplay.

But people shouldn't assume I attest the whole shabang to him. Fiona did more to start this war than him in my opinion, because she saw the results of his actions, knew this was the worst time ever to vote for separation, and still did what she did.

And before anyone says it, yes I know the templars didn't help things at all and were supreme asshats. And that Fiona had some backing. If anything, her having some support is more damning since I'm talking mages, not just some mages.

I actually sent him packing, lol. I did want kirkwall taken, but my hate for Sebastian was far too great. What a tool.

and a bit a self-rightous child. I respect the lad but really think clearly.. a madwoman is trying to murder children... lets deal with anders later

Oh yea, letting anders live was a lot more appealing when Sebastian tried threatening me. If it were ME me, I would have backhanded the ponytail out of his hair. Won't lie, pissing off the Seb had a lot to do with why I let Anders live.

 LOL. At the time, I also really hated the chantry, so that helped. And I still do to be honest. I'm like Dorian in game and in real life, in that I have my faith, but despise the church. The only reason, the only only reason I switched sides was Redcliffe pissed me off so much. Talk about buzzkill when you go to save someone and...

I wonder what sort of mage it makes me that I was glad the war happened, hate the Circles, and wished the Templars destroyed.

But STILL killed Anders and the other Blood Mages.

It's like the Count of Monte Cristo. "Do not commit the crime for which you were sent here unjustly."

I still haven't done the templar side yet and I'm not sure I will. Too much fun conscripting those mages.
