I am curious if people could reform the system as they desired how would they go about doing it?

Let the Templars purge the mages. Disband the Templars. Raise maglings from birth to become Jedi Knight-Enchanters from that point forward. Essentially turning the Mages into Templars.

Until they start getting funny ideas that with their powers they could conquer thedas if they want.

Training doubles as indoctrination. They'll be taught to uphold balance in Thedas. They'll also be neutral peace keepers. Import a Tamassran or two to figure out how they do it with the Qunari. Except instead of being leashed mages become the most formidable and feared military order in the South. Use blood magic in their youth if you need to. Whatever works.

Small price to pay for badassery. And the complaining would finally cease on one side while the zealotry would on the other.

I give it a year before the first Sith Empire appears.

Break apart the mage identity-polity so completely that referring to 'the mages' would be as sensible and useful as 'the humans' or 'the elves.'

There's a whole host of steps, some amiable and commendable and some so amoral and cynical that the whole system would discomfort anyone born of the liberal enlightenment.

'Reform' has never been synonymous was 'pleasant.'

I used to be Pro-Cooperation. Now I am Pro-Mage because Bioware forces you to only be able to support one.

Anti-Circle most of the time.

I understand that much. But I've seen others claim a loyalist point of view as being "Pro-Mage".

It is. But like most things in this world the "with us or against us" mentality kicks in. Even over something as trivial as a video game IP faction.

It is if you ask me, but that's not the general consensus. There is no peace with mages in south thedas without some form of circle system. Best that people accept that or take their asses elsewhere and hope they get a better lot than Fiona did.

Circles will always exist. There are Circles in Tevinter. Mages need to be trained so they don't inevitably blow themselves up. What people are arguing about is how lax those Circles should be.

I know there's circles in tevinter, but they're so different that I don't consider them the same thing. I know the topic.

In my case, basically an autonomous Circle. Which actually happens if you do certain things in the game which result in the College of Enchanters.

They are. They serve the same function or at least they're supposed to. The Circle of Magi was never supposed to be a luxurious prison. It was created as a place where mages can master their magic without endangering mundanes in the process. That got lost in translation in the last 700 years.

Ok dude. I don't think they serve the same function, but there's no point in making a discussion about it. Even if the circle wasn't supposed to be a prison, the ones in the south are, some more and some less, and that is what I think is necessary on some level, not just open colleges that work as Hogwarts in Thedas alone.

They do actually. It's like a less chewy chicken. Gator's better though. I like my meat chewy.
