Hey, I'm buying some schematics for my second play through in Orlais. And I can't remember which armor is human restricted. The problem is none of the schematics tell you until after you buy them. It doesn't seem like it would be a lot of work to add these to the already existing descriptions.

Very few armors are actually human only, the only schematic that has the restriction I know of is the templar armor schematic from Hissing Wastes.

It still would be nice if schematics said more about the finished product, like if it got race restrictions or have slots for modifiers or not. Instead of having to use all your dragon materials making a shiny armour that you afterwards realize no one can wear and you forgot to quicksave before you crafted it... :crying:

Orlesian armors the only ones I've noticed being human only so far.

You do see race restrictions (and slots and modifiers) on the schematic while you are crafting, so you can cancel before you make it

It's more of, I'd rather not dump 3k on a schematic I can't use. And having to save fast travel to craft, find out it's restricted, then load back to where I was just seems like a lot of extra steps. I'd even prefer if they showed whether or not they were upgrade able as some things I crafted aren't.

I kinda wish you had more information in general before you bought a schematic. At the very least, tell me its potential damage output so I can compare it to what I already have. I suppose I could technically save, buy it, go to Skyhold and check it out, and then reload if I don't want it. But it seems that it would be too simple to give a little statistical information when buying them.

Not only that. I just crafted medium armor for my Inquisitor (Elf) just to find out afterwards that it is restricted to humans only. There is no hint in the schematic description at all! If they at least would make it red if you choose the character you want to craft it for.

Really hate that, especially after I forgot to quicksave just before crafting

I would also love to be able to see what a particular armor looks like before I buy it. The character is there, only it's covered up with this huge thing with the crafting material boxes, which is really redundant because just underneath the crafting material boxes is a list of what crafting material boxes the schematic contains....

Another thing that would be nice is to be able to see the DPS/armor rating range of the schematic at the time I buy it so I can compare it to my current equipment.

True story first time I arrived to Orlais I bought Orlaisan Battle Mage armor schematics for my qunari mage.

…yeah, I'd really like to make more informed purchases, please.

THIS!!! A THOUSAND TIMES THIS!!!

I dropped 9k gold on a scout armor schematic for my human rogue on my first playthrough, only to find it was restricted to elves only. It was a complete waste of funds, because I was the only rogue I needed in my party.

Since then, it's happened 3-4 times--I'll buy a schematic only to find the specific party member I bought it for cannot use the item.

And you can't find out until the item is crafted and in your inventory. It's driving me insane.

Information would be helpful. I have no idea if what I'm buying is better or worse than what I have. I have a general sense but if I can see stats when I go to make it why can't I see them when I buy it?

It's like they just didn't even bother trying with this part of crafting. It's like going to buy a car at a dealership and when you get there, there are no cars on the lot and you get a book with a bunch of pages that say Car on each with zero detail. One might say luxury car. One might say sports car. But absolutely not details whatsoever except the price and perhaps how many gallons of gas it holds.

I don't know why people keep saying this when it's 100% untrue..

If one bothers to look at the right side of the screen, under the armor you are crafting it says the requirements(if any) of the item you are crafting.  And if you switch between active characters, the requirements will change color to red if said character cannot use the item.

Sure, it'd be nice to see the restrictions of a schematic while purchasing it from a store.  And I don't see any reason not ask for that... But you can see them while crafting.  If you didn't, it's because you didn't look for it.  Not because it wasn't there.

Not in my game. I wish it were so, but it isn't. It only shows what slots for metal, leather etc. I have but no more. I am playing the PC version. Maybe it is different in other versions?

Google is your friend.

That being said, it's stupid it doesn't show this in the game when you buy the schamatic. It does show up when you're crafting, so wasting materials is just... eh.. stupid. But in this day and age of mobile phones with internet, laptops and everything, there's really no reason you should waste your gold on this

That must be a really special PC version you're playing, because it does show up in my game.

It shows when you've already selected to craft, when you're putting in the materials. On the right side of the screen it mentions the restrictions (underneath the representation of what the armor's going to look like)

It's not only the armor. The weapons upgrades are frustratingly vague, too. I've created dagger grips that don't work with the daggers I wanted to upgrade, hafts that don't work with the one-handed weapon I crafted them for... Then I'm stuck with wasted resources and wondering "Is this a mace-only haft? Is it axe-specific? Is it just my weapon?"

I don't mind stopping every now and again to gather resources I need to keep my party in top form, but when I'm using the highest-tier resources that aren't easy to come by, it gets my smalls in a twist when I take the time to create something it ends up I can't use. Nor can I break it back down and recover any of the resources used. I can only sell it for pittance.

It twists my smalls, I tell you.

I have paid special attention to it last time I crafted and I couldn't find a thing about it. Will have a look at it again when I am out of Therinfal Redoubt.

Edit:

You're right. If I go on into the crafting dialog (one step further), I can actually see the restrictions on the right side. Thanks for the information.

But there is no information about additional slots like arms or legs.

I guess I really need to look closer next time I craft as I still haven't seen any restrictions listed anywhere...

Information about arms/legs slots is outright misleading. I was crafting an armour, looked at the right side of the screen and there it displayed three boxes all followed by the word empty. I thought it had to be arms, legs and rune slots, but after the armour was done it turned out to not have arms/legs slots at all, only rune slot (which I guess everything has).

Look at the right side on the screenshot further below. There you can see the restrictions.

The "empty" is for the leather/metal/cloth slots, that means there will be the stat for the second/third... slot.

There is a rune slot for armor? I thought only for weapons.
