For one, yeah. Why do I need to know? Does Vega or any other character in that game bring up their wife, husband, girlfriend, or boyfriend out of the blue like that? I see right through what they're doing and it cheapens the product. The problem isn't Cortez being gay or having a husband. It's how it's how it's introduced to the player in such a brute force way that's the problem. It's not all that different in DA2 where you got Anders hitting on the player despite no advances ever being made by the player. Or the decision to make Kaiden a bisexual character even though he shows interest in women in ME1 and ME2 and shows no interest in the same sex until the third game.
It's pandering and it's crap.
His husband died and he's upset about it and you help him get over it. You don't have to romance him nor does he say "now that I'm over it can I ram you ass back to sass?"
The exact same thing can happen if it was his wife or if a woman lost her husband or her wife.
It's just something they thought "oh, it's not been done before, so cool."
You think too much.
Here's Putin doing some good.
