Why can't I view schematic stats before I purchase them?

Unless I'm missing something this seems like a major oversight. All the time I find myself unsure of whether or not to buy a schematic because I'm not sure if it's a worthwhile upgrade over what I already have. Is there really no way to check? Even the inventory screen doesn't list any useful information about a schematic except what tier it is. Anybody else find this really irritating?

Yeah that's a little annoying. The Hissing Wastes is like a gold sink to gamble.

All I really go by is the tier level. If there is another way to check, I'm not certain. More information would be nice.

I made heavy armor to find that only dwarves could wear it...and I'd made it for Blackwall. It did not notify me of that on the schematic. What a waste of materials...now I have to do a quick save before crafting anything from a new schematic.

You can roughly go with the amount of materials which go into the primary (middle) slot, since that's what determines amount of armour/base damage you can get out of the crafted item. So if the amounts in that slot are comparable with what you have (or lower) then you aren't getting much of an upgrade (if any at all)

But yes, it's not very convenient.

Wish we could see how it looks like as well.

While I agree that schematics could give us a better "general idea" of the item, especially when it comes to it's look, if the item will have augment slots or not.  It's really easy to watch the different material slot of the schematics, and have a vague opinion on the item:

* Look at the main slot first, the more material is require to create the item, the better.

* Additional slots: I personally prefer offence (for dps) and defense slot for my tank over utility

For example, the best tier 1 will always require 10 or more materials on the main slot, around 15 for tier 2, and I believe 19+ for Masterwork tier 3. Thus, while keeping in mind that tier one material will grant you 1 stat, 1.5 for tier 2, and 1.75 for tier 3 you can easily do the math and give the item a decent estimate of it's value.

However, I did got tricked a couples time crafting an item with 0 augment slot (mostly armor). Plus, adding a comparing tool system while crafting your gear would help a lot.

You made the legion of dead armor didn't you?  I did that, it makes sense after thinking about it since only dwarves are suppose to join the legion.  Would of been nice to know ahead of time before I used the masterwork item though

Super annoying.  I just save, buy all of them I can afford, note which ones are upgrades, re-load and then decide what to by.

This should have been fixed many builds ago...surely anyone testing the game is gonna pick up on this?

Clearly the moral of the story is that you should have been a dwarf from the start. =D

I kid. The same thing happened to me when I dropped a hefty amount of gold to buy orlesian armor and found out it was human-restricted. Learned my lesson by the time I got to the dalish vendor and didn't trust anything they had for sale.

Because if he showed you the schematic you wouldn't have to buy it now would you? You could just memorize it instantly with a tevinter cantrip developed especially for stealing secrets (they're really into stuff like that) and replicate it yourself. Duh...

I mean... we have had "copy magic scroll" spells since the 80's and we don't even live in a magical society! These things would be rampant in Thedas.
