In the first camp that you appear in, upon arrival at the Exalted Plains, there's a book on a table, behind the tents, that doesn't do anything when I select it. Does anyone know anything about this?

I searched and found maps of all collectibles in the area, but that spot isn't shown. I've also looked through my codex to see if anything is new, reloaded and checked my valuables too. Nothing happens at all.

Same thing here on PC didnt get xp or any codex entries, theres another codex in the dusty library in skyhold that has the same problem though I did get xp from that one. I reloaded saves on both occasions, thank the quicksave button :D

Oh, so I'm not the only one. Good! Couldn't find any other mention over the last 5 days. I'm on PC too. Strange not many people are noticing it. It's the first thing you see in the area.

Yeah, I use quicksave a lot too. I've left the book for now, untouched, just in case it's something that I have to get for a later quest, but it most likely isn't, considering it's not on any guide maps. Probably a simple codex entry, but I don't know, it still bugs me not knowing.

I know how you feel. I'm one of those players that can't stand leaving a stone unturned xD Hoping that book and the one in the skyhold library gets fixed. Do you have the same problem in the library?

There are few of these books. Seems to me a bug or unfinished content. Happens

I vaguely remember having a similar problem with a book in the library, but at the time I was so overwhelmed with all the content, when you get to Skyhold, that I think I let that one slip. And it may have been because I got xp, like you said.

But yes, I totally have trouble letting things go sometimes. And how crazy is this game for those of us who can't leave a stone unturned? There are just SO many stones! It's making my head spin. But mostly in a good way. :P

Theres an NPC in Val Royeauz who sells any codexes youve missed for 15 coppers, you could always leave it there and check out his store.

Yes, I know I spelled Val Royeaux incorrectly. :P

Hey, thanks. I didn't know that. Would have to wait until the very end, because there's no record of which codex it is. But it would be satisfying to find out at last. Would also be just my luck that I'd find out, buy it, and it still wouldn't work. :P

I believe that any instance of a book or scroll that "does nothing" indicates you already found it previously, so you don't "read" it again.  This is really the most logical answer, since it makes it harder to miss things if some 'books' are duplicated where appropriate.

I also get "empty" books sometimes.  Once or twice, I click a book and get a notice that I have a new codex entry, but nothing pops up for me to read.  I have to go into the codex and hunt for it.  I think it's a bug.  Maybe related to journal entries not clearing correctly.

Oh, really? Does that happen in new areas? Like the same codex entry is in a different town? That would be pretty helpful if that's what's happening here.

Have you gotten Vivienne's personal quest yet? It might be one of the tomes she asks you to retrieve.

It would be a hassle to try to confirm, but it would be logical. Having every piece of lore only appear in a unique location and only once would make absorbing the lore a massive hassle for anyone but the most dedicated explorers.

It would make sense that some sources of lore appear multiple times. Though I would also be nice if the game said so, instead of no reaction at all, leaving the players wondering what the book was all about.

Yeah, it's not just you.  Some of the codices are bugged in this game.

Yeah, there have been several codex entries like that for me.  Just ghost books.  Some are ones I have checked before that just glitch and appear again, even though they give you nothing.  Some, however, are new entries that fail to give me anything, anyways.  It's annoying.

TeraBat: That's possible. I haven't finished Vivienne's quest yet. I'll remember that for when I do.

Archie591: That's true, it would be pretty logical for such a dense game. The first game didn't do that though and I don't think the second one did, but I didn't play it much. And yeah, I wish the game just said so, if that's what's happening.

Everyone who shared the same problem: Thanks, it's looking like quite a few others have seen this too and it could just as easily be a bug.

And now, I am officially thinking too hard about something so small. Heh. :P

Yeah, if I'd gotten XP from it, I wouldn't have noticed anything to begin with.

It's the Necronomicon. You are better off not reading it.
