Can someone decipher what LuminousLupine just said?

I shouldn't need to have a degree in programming to work a video game.

---

Oh, and I think that's what - 71 customers? Charming.

Sure I'll give it a shot.

LuminousLupine managed to get his game working after a series of failures followed by restarts. Dunno what mojo went on but I'm willing to give it a shot myself.

1. He uninstalled Mass Effect 2. The "under an admin account" wasn't really necessary considering you can't make system wide changes without one.

2. He started the game and it crashed. He restarted his PC.

3. After the restart he installed the Downloadable Content he had access to.

4. Tried running the game again after the DLC installs. It still crashed so he restarted his PC again.

5. After the the restart he went into the Mass Effect 2 Configuration Utility(choose configure in the launcher) and turned all graphics settings to off.

6. He started Mass Effect 2, Alt-Tabbed, and started Firefox. He alt-tabbed back to ME2 to find that it had actually decided to play without crashing.

7. Somehow steps 1-6 beat the crashes, and allowed him to play the game.

I'm willing to give that a shot, PCs can be very finicky sometimes.

Same issue here.  Initial loading screen has locked up all but one time, and that one time it locked up on the second loading screen.  I do meet the minimum requirements.

No, this is standard forum stuff what has been common place for many years now.  Flaming icons on forum posts in any forum mean that the topic is highly active and get new posts frequently.

This is not the issue being discussed in this thread.

The issue at hand is people freezing at the loading screend BEFORE the opening scene is even able to load.  More specifically, it freezes approximately halfway through the loading splash screen, and can only be released by crashing the program manually through windows task manager

I just tried the so-called movie and single core fix in an attempt to bypass the loading screen issue. It essentially means replacing a number of .bik movie files in your movies folder. Now the load screen is replaced by a green screen, but I do get the following intro movie (which is better than getting stuck at the load screen!) Sadly though, the intro movie plays, but with incredible stutter (only video, sound plays fine). I'm now typing as this movie plays slowwwwwly. Waiting to get to the gameplay to see how that goes......Intro movie when Normandy flies by (which is in-game) is now smooth, but no voices from the characters, just music and sfx. And now back to stutter. And back again to smooth playback, then stutter. Finally got to the gameplay. Stuttering badly again. Went to the options menu and it it is stuttering too. By stutter I mean that for two seconds everything is silky smooth, then the next two are a complete freeze. Repeat ad inifinitum.

this is exactly what the "fix" did for me

Once you get to the point where you can save the game - you can restart ME2 and get no stutter with the unofficial fix

Having problem with load screen as well.

Used the 'Fix' which just cut out initial load screen as said before, got to the part with maranda and the illusive man and that lags like s**t. After that I just closed out of it to see what I can do

As far as i am concerned with PC games, is that if my single core's GHz are more or equal to that of what is said a duo needs (take the number it gives you -1.8 in this case- times by two -3.6- then subtract half of the 1.8 -.9- which ends up being 2.7) and if the number is less than the single core, you should be fine.

Not sure how exactly it works, my brother has always used that to see if games could run on our single core and they always have.

So just as many others said before, it must be a bug. A really effed up one I might add

And for the people that say just play it and skip all the cutscene, well I payed for a game so I can experiance all parts of it. Skipping them takes out so much of the game.

Having same issue

not surprised since ME1 required me to bittorrent it after I had the hard copy in my lap. Not as upset as I should be tho since its not DRM related.

Hmm my post didn't show up; wierd.

I'm having the same issue.  I select import character (or even new male / female char; doesn't seem to matter)... and the initial loading screen comes up where the orange mass gate is displayed.  It seems to move forward a little bit and BAM; frozen... for eternity it seems.

This is what is happening to me to. i get right to the orange mass gate and game just freezes.

**** happens...

Bioware has already shown they care about the pc community by fixing the EA servers. I think that was the first problem they had so they took it on first. Hopefully this can be fixed next or atleast adressed

Considering this is only 12 pages long for a highly anticipated "blockbuster" style videogame, I'd say people like us with this issue are probably outliers and do not represent any significant portion of the playerbase.

whats your point? that they shouldn't patch something that we can't seem to fix?

jidnis: Thanks for the suggestion. I wish I had tried that! I'm going to bear through the stutter once again and try saving my game and reloading. I'll report back on the results.
