Having problem with load screen as well.
Used the 'Fix' which just cut out initial load screen as said before, got to the part with maranda and the illusive man and that lags like s**t. After that I just closed out of it to see what I can do

As far as i am concerned with PC games, is that if my single core's GHz are more or equal to that of what is said a duo needs (take the number it gives you -1.8 in this case- times by two -3.6- then subtract half of the 1.8 -.9- which ends up being 2.7) and if the number is less than the single core, you should be fine.
Not sure how exactly it works, my brother has always used that to see if games could run on our single core and they always have.
So just as many others said before, it must be a bug. A really effed up one I might add

And for the people that say just play it and skip all the cutscene, well I payed for a game so I can experiance all parts of it. Skipping them takes out so much of the game.

This is an issue with the single core processor. it's why our minimum spec for the PC doesnt include your particular box.

Okay so it's an issue with single-core processors, what about all the people with dual/quad-core processors?

If I go out and drop money on a new processor, I won't be playing anymore Bioware games due to the, "You should've read the specs before you spent your money, now I can't help you", nature of this post. Mass Effect 1 worked fine on a single-core; and if the specs changed, the developers should've made it VERY CLEAR to EVERYONE pre-release.

So I made my way through the initial and very short gameplay sequence. Lots of stuttering, but I finally made it through (I'm not giving details to avoid spoilers). Got to the character design section and from there it has been smooth sailing (did not even need to save and reload as jidnis had suggested). Currently playing smoothly in 1440x900 windowed mode on a Radeon 3850. Just switched to 1680x1050 fullscreen and it's working fine.

So to recap for people facing a similar issue:
1. get a fix that allows you to replace loading screens/movies with empty files (at your own risk, these are unofficial fixes and others on this forum have pointed the way). These will allow you to avoid the loading screen freeze issue.
2. Bear through the long intro movie that willl probably stutter like hell. Once gameplay starts, try to navigate your character through the ship despite the stutter. Watch some more movies probably with some stutter.
3. Congratulations, you have reached the character creation screen. From here on it should all go smoothly. You will get a green screen when skipping the load screen, but everything else (in-game cutscenes, gameplay, sound, etc.) should work well. At least it is for me right now. Just shot a bunch of security bots and all went well. ;)

This game will be awesome. Hopefully everyone gets to enjoy it fully soon.

p.s.: I still expect an official fix by the developers to come out as soon as possible, but in the meantime, this is way better than watching a frozen load screen.

Good Luck.

I am uninstalling the cinematics files that were modified by the unofficial fix and am going to confirm the playthrough intro ...

Just let the little into movie play after the ME's 'Press any key to continue' screen pops up. Simple as that seems! Three times I've gotten the game to play now with min, max, and mixxed setting all by letting the optional intro movie play. Though it does seem to make the cerberus logo on the main menu lag!

************************************************************************************

Holy Smoke I can confirm this indeed works.

I followed that step:

1. in the "Press Any Key to Continue" screen, I didnt click anything and waited for the optional intro movie to play. Once the intro movie finished, and the screen pops back to "Press Any Key to Continue" screen, now press any key and access the main screen.

Now you can choose new game and create new character or import your ME1 character. I imported my ME1 character and this time IT DIDNT STUCK AT THE LOADING SCREEN!!

I can now start to play the game!

Thanks for the great find!

---------

SADLY, the in-game real time rendered cutscene is progessing at 5 seconds a frame now that I am able to get into the game. Out of one hole and straight into another, oh yeah.Image IPB

Is it just that first in-game cutscene that is slow or all of them?

Addiction21 - played around with letting the intro play like you were talking about.

Without intro - I can get into the "New Game" "Cerberus Network" area fine - then, feeze.

With intro (once) - it makes everything Lag.

I wouldn't have the first clue as to what that might mean (if anything) - but it seems seriously out of wack

Note: I did not try to actually run the game yet to see if it would freeze. (yet)

I have let the intro run, too and it will run perfectly until after the Lazarus Project part where you can mod your imported Shep.  After that it goes to a load screen that freezes.  Again.

I've asked in General about anyone playing on single core -

So far, one person responded that he is - and it's running smoothly.

It is NOT single core processors gang. We've got plenty of dual and quad core processors with the problem on here.

Plus - the game runs fine after the cinematics even on a single core.

Well, i cant say it unless i mention a bit spoiler

SPOILER!

Yes, right now I am on the Normandy and it still lags like crazy in the cutscene and when I started controlling the main character he is moving at like one step per five seconds.

SPOILER ENDS

I will see if the game improves once I get to the character select screen, I am guessing it should be soon.

---------

Alright, here's the update on my game status:

I was able to get to character selection screen after all the laggy cutscenes and the short player controlled sequence. However, after finishing up the character selection screen and confirmed it, the game freezes again.

I am guessing its because there's another movie that would have played after this load screen. Which is the same problem as the first STUCKED LOAD SCREEN that many others have encountered.

  So, here's my two cents:

Dont bother starting the game unless you tried that unoffical patch. I didn't, which is why I am now stucking at this loading screen (after confirming main character's new appearance and job). You dont want to walk through all that laggy cutscenes for 40 minutes and then found out you are stuck again.

But then again, you might still want to try it out because the cutscenes are indeed quite cool. Image IPB

But for me, well, I'll think of what I just saw and played as a preview until Bioware hands out a perminant fix.

as others who have tried, i let the Intro Cinematic play all the way through (the one immediately after the "Press Any Key" part), to which it comes back to the Press Any Key, but it starts to stutter. All in-game rendered cinematics are choppy and with character voice, but the prerendered cinematic is smooth but without any of the character's voice

If I have to trade in for the 360 version I'm gonna be pissed....

I completed the 1st one on the comp - I don't want the fracking default and I don't have my 360 hooked up to LIVE.

And, I can't get my money back. Well - you got me this one time Bioware. I'll be much more prudent the next time one of your games comes around.

Going to keep bumping this until we see an acknowledgment from Bioware that they've finally READ this thread, and understand that it's not a single core issue.

It really is frustrating that, twice now, we've had Bioware responses that indicate not having read the thread at all. I know reading threads like this in their entirety is boring, guys, but guess what? Just about everyone posting in it has done so, because we've had no choice! At least *one* of your guys there can spend the 15 minutes necessary to do so to actually *understand* the problem, yes? Please? If you're going to respond to us (and we really wish you would), at least please find out what the actual problem is first. Cause these "nope, sorry, your 6 hour wait so far was completely fruitless, we still haven't decided to read the thread and understand the problem" posts are just frustrating.

let cinematic roll, you come back to a lagging start up screen, lagging cinematic

you don't let the cinematic roll, you come back to a smooth start up screen, FROZEN loading screen

you can't seem to win here.  I find it AMAZING that screw ups like this get passed testing.....

Just wanted to add my voice to the pile for what its worth. I am having the same problem as everyone else in this thread. Starting a new character causes the game to freeze on the golden mass relay loading screen. Letting the *press any key to continue* screen load the cinematic, then starting a new character gets me past the loading screen, but the opening is completely unbearable beyond this point. This happens on both my computer and my fiance's computer, installing from a pre-ordered disk copy from amazon.

My specs

Intel Pentium M 2GHz Processor

2GB of ram

Nvidia 7800gtx

Windows XP SP2

His computer

AMD 64 2.41GHz Processor

2GB ram

Nvidia 7950gt

Windows XP SP2

I considered not posting since we both have single core processors so as not to make bioware think this is the source of everyone's problem, but since there are so many people with dual and quad core having the exact same issue, thought I may as well throw this up there too.

Good luck All

ok I did the fix for the biks but instead of trying to straight play I let the intro movie at press any key screen play twice then moved on I got alllll the way up to the ** SPOILER TURN BACK IF YOU NO WANT TO READ** I GOT UP TO THE POINT WHERE I GET IN THE NORMANDY SR2 and then it freezes so I played 2 hours worth of the game with little lag and lock ups. but as I said then it froze when I was starting to control shepard in normandy sr2. sigh trying again from last save. hope this helps someone. the gamecopyworld version seems to be clean. still if your unconfrotable downloading it then dont.

Why?  Are you unfamiliar with standard customer service processes?

If this gets fixed the fix will come tomorrow or several days later.  Maybe even longer.

But to even get to that point, first you have to establish through normal customer service processes that there is a problem to fix, and that the problem isn't the fault of the end-user.  These things don't happen very quickly.

It's not just the single core processors that have this problem. I've got a Q6600 core 2 quad, but it will only recognize one processor in the utility setup. Any ideas?

i did some quick checking in the Config Utility... I have a Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale processor, which is obviously a dual-core CPU. However, according to the ME2 Config, my rig only has one (yes ONE) processor. Anyone else with this issue? Perhaps ME2 thinks we all have single-core due to some bug or something

Edit: the fella above me posted before me, but seems to have the same issue

One additional thing to add from my previous post about the workaround(s) I used. After hitting another section of the game where gameplay stuttered, I saved, restarted the game, loaded my game and things were back to normal.

Time to sleep...

What we've established so far:

-Problem is consistent across single and multiple core systems

-Problem remains on systems with both Nvidia and ATI graphics cards

-The intro scene and load screens are giving us trouble (perhaps there is an issue with playing these videos in high-definition?)

What about 32-bit and 64-bit systems? I am trying to diagnose the problem so I don't have time to read through every single post here. Someone who has the time please check people's systems and see if the problem is on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Rorican -

Okay - then what are they looking for since 90 plus people didn't know (and I assume the majority just got lucky).

I can play any other current video game except for this piece of offal - don't tell me thier cinematics are more stunning than Blizzards.

It's cruel to let us play a game you released two months ago, but rip this game away from us. Many of us had preorders before the min. requirements were released, in defense of overlooking the processor thing.

FIX - replace all the loading .bik movies in /BioGame/Movies/ with blank ones (takes some time, but playing the game is worth it). Some cut scenes are still laggy, particularly the opening, which you just have to suffer through. After that, anytime the game lags, quick save and load to get back on track.

Still, shame on you, Bioware. :(

I hate to say it but I used the fix and it works perfectly, no stutter, no lag, only thing you miss out on is seeing the load screens. You do not miss any cinematic and it still gives you the little tips on the load screen. Bioware needs to make a legal fix quickly as I feel this no intro fix may become blocked eventually :'(

PS. It checks out, clean as a whistle, no virus spyware adware or trojans.

PPS. Bioware, you just made the most perfect game in the existence of video games! You deserve that 10/10 you got yesterday :D
