Alright Talchin - what's the link you used (doubting you'll be back since it's "fixed" for you)?

PPS. Bioware, you just made the most perfect game in the existence of video games! You deserve that 10/10 you got yesterday :D

if it was the most perfect game out there, this thread wouldnt be necessary

Rorican -

Okay - then what are they looking for since 90 plus people didn't know (and I assume the majority just got lucky).

I can play any other current video game except for this piece of offal - don't tell me thier cinematics are more stunning than Blizzards.

What are you asking, exactly?

I'm simply saying, if there's a problem, it shouldn't be a surprise that they took a while to realize (assuming they even have, at this point) that there is a problem they need to address.  It has been less than a day.

Just have realistic expectations about customer service experiences.  No one is willing to pay more for better customer service, so this is what you get.  Tier 1 runarounds where the assumption is that the problem is either something the customer can fix or that isn't fixable but probably minor or only affecting a tiny percentage of the customers.  Once you have enough problems going through the basic troubleshooting steps and getting escalated to Tier 2 and up, then you start to get noticed.

It's a gradual, sometimes slow, process.  I'm every bit as frustrated with this as you, but I also know how these things go.  We're also dealing with EA Games, to boot.  People who bought Spore products during November to take advantage of sale pricing were unable to take advantage of online features (which are a significant part of the game experience) until Christmas Eve.

I'm having flashbacks to World at War. I have a screaming PC, but it can't play due to programming and testing issues. It took almost 2G of patches to get that one to play right. Wonder how long it will take for this?

Rorican - you said Dual and Quad are considered Single Core Processors.

If that's the case - it doesn't seem like anyone else in this thread knew that.

That isn't what I said at all.  I said that Dual and Quad are considered single processors.  Someone was freaking out that the diagnostic tool was reporting a single processor even though they had a dual or a quad core.  The tool would report multiple processors if you actually had multiple CPUs.  2 dual cores, or two single cores, for example, or maybe even two quad cores.

Ahh - I see. My apologies.

I'm not tech savvy and I was wondering if I was really THAT un-tech savvy.

If you're using the unofficial fix, BACKUP YOUR BioGame/Movies FOLDER before doing anything.

Yep, same problem as the last 15 pages of disgruntled customers.
Single core AMD 64 3500+
2 Gigs of ram
Nvidea 8800 GT
All updated drivers

Collectors edition purchased from a Best Buy
Installed and reinstalled
After selecting "New Game" then "Male or Female" jumps to loading screen where the animation plays from about 1 second then freezes. Same as everyone else problems shutting down the frozen program and forced to restart computer.
As far as the unoffical patch posted above, I don't want to even miss the loading screen, I want the whole game I payed for. Of course I appreciate the investigation and problem soving these folks are engaged in, and a tip of the hat for those slapping together a patch which goes around the problem files. Me, I want an official patch that allows me to play the game please as soon as possible. There was no delay or problem taking my money, I hope there isn't too long of a delay or problem in getting to a official patch.
<_<

OK I have to ask, what "fix". I've read through many of the post so far but I'm petering out at this point it's late and I might have to show my face at work for some reason. So could someone please clue me in on this "fix" I'll try anything at this point, I know it might not actuality fix my freezing problem (yup same as everyone else single core for the record) but I figured I'd try before i start writing up a list of new parts I might have to buy just to play this ONE game....*sigh*

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just chiming in again.

My specs are

Windows XP

2.4 ghz Intel dual core

2 gigs ram

Nvidia 8800 GTX

Can't get past the loading screen without those blank bik files and the cinematics stutter regardless.

rorican-

A CPU, or central processing unit describes the entire processing "brain" or single piece of equipment used in processing individual funcions of a computer, but a 'core' could also be described as a processor, since it is a layer of a CPU, and in itself, processes information. DB.

************************************************************************************

Just let the little into movie play after the ME's 'Press any key to continue' screen pops up. Simple as that seems! Three times I've gotten the game to play now with min, max, and mixxed setting all by letting the optional intro movie play. Though it does seem to make the cerberus logo on the main menu lag!

************************************************************************************

Holy Smoke I can confirm this indeed works.

I followed that step:

1. in the "Press Any Key to Continue" screen, I didnt click anything and waited for the optional intro movie to play. Once the intro movie finished, and the screen pops back to "Press Any Key to Continue" screen, now press any key and access the main screen.

Now you can choose new game and create new character or import your ME1 character. I imported my ME1 character and this time IT DIDNT STUCK AT THE LOADING SCREEN!!

I can now start to play the game!

Thanks for the great find!

---------

SADLY, the in-game real time rendered cutscene is progessing at 5 seconds a frame now that I am able to get into the game. Out of one hole and straight into another, oh yeah.Image IPB

ya i got about the same.  the full sinamtic's ran like a dream. the ..i gess youd call them half sinamtic's along will all game play was laggy as all get out 5 seconds of wait per one of go. but that was fine i was playing.

so i got thru all that and made it to the char gen screen and that went smooth. BUT it froze at the loading screen after that :( oh well

edit: ya sorry dident notice that we had added two pages.... ops my bad

there are 2 boxes in the Config... one for "# of processors" and another right next to it "# of cores".  both boxes have "1" in them, when I clearly have a dual-core. Now, maybe I'm just missing something, but there is a difference between a "processor" and a "core"; the Config should also be able to discriminate between the two, and it *should* say I have 2 "cores" when I actually do.

Yes, it COULD be, but not by people that make diagnostic tools.  Computer scientists and engineers and people that sell motherboards differentiate between cores and CPUs.

Then you definitely have a reason to be concerned.  Your system is reporting to the diagnostic tool that it only has one CPU and only one core.

flyingspam, when you ctrl-alt-del and look at your "performance" tab do you see multiple lines in your processor activity for each separate core? The diagnostic tool probably just asks Windows for details and then fills in the boxes. Maybe you need a driver update and you can get out of the quagmire so many of us are.

Can the other dual-core (or more) users check to see what the configuration tool reports in the # CPUs and # Core boxes?

I have a Q6600 core 2 quad with both green and red lines in the processor activity, but it only identifies one core in the utility.

Same problem... letting the into movie play got me to the jerky Normady rescue scene, but I froze once I completed character creation.

Intel Core2Dou E4500 @ 2.2GHz
Windows XP SP3
2G RAM
ATI Raedon 4650/1G RAM

ME2 config list my CPU # as 1 / core # as 1.

This is the first game that I anticipated enough to buy opening day; guess I should have waited till it was in the discount bin and these issue resolved. 6 hours of troubleshoot is not equal to 6 hours of game play. :(

I just see one line on the graph under "CPU Usage History"... I'm currently running ME2.exe in the background to judge the usage, but its just the one line. And last I knew, there were no drivers for multi-core CPUs... I think it was up to the individual motherboard to get that all set up

It is up to the operating system to understand how to use multiple CPUs and an out of date XP install might not handle some correctly.  Or, there could be a BIOS issue, and a BIOS update could help.

Every multi-core CPU I've used has shown multiple processor lines in the performance tab, but it might also be a preference somewhere to hide the extra details and just average it out.

Edit: SO far we've got 3 out of 3 multi-core users reporting that the config tool only sees 1 core.  It could be meaningful, or it could just be a crappy diagnostic tool that doesn't actually check.

It's not even the issue that ticks me off (though it DOES tick me off).

It's that 2 Bioware employees have come in here.. and their posts have proven that neither of them even read this thread. I'll say that again - the Bioware responses have been USELESS.

It's like going to the Courtesy Counter of your local grocery store and having some snot nosed employee ignore you while she's talking on her cell phone to her girlfriend.
