Still freezing up on loading screen

I am now having same issue. I used steam to purchase and all was fine using an 8800 GTX and quad core. I have just swopped out for a ATI 5770 (removed the drivers first from Nvidia) and installed latest ATI drivers and now it goes no further than that little loading circle then nothing. I have re-installed game to no effect and it has not had the same effect on any other steam game i have. I have tried running in Admin and different comp modes as per some of the forums but still nothing. Anyone else have any other ideas (apart from putting in my 8800 again!)
thanks

Interesing Brehus - I wonder what would happen if your single core had Win7 on it.
We've had reports that Single cores with Win7 work fine.
I disabled 3 of my cores yesterday by setting the affinity for the game and the game ran fine with just 1 single core running at 2.5Ghz it was noticeably slower than having all 4 cores but it was very playable

I am running an AMD single core processor with Windows 7 and I have the same issue as everyone else in this thread

It loads fine. The intro is awesome. The main load screen works fine.
Start to create a new character or import an ME1 character, the relay image loads and the numbers start to scroll up. Then BLAM freeze, not responding.
I first guessed it may be hardware related but the kicker of it is if the entire intro is allowed to play through to the end before selecting the Press any Key to continue then that specific freeze will not happen. However the game fluctuates from smooth video to choppy intermittent lagfest. Unplayable.
Very reproducable. Enter game results in almost immediate freeze, enter game after allowing the entire intro to play results in choppy Illusive Man video, smooth ship transition and chatter, choppy internal explosions, smooth external ship blowing up, back to choppy inside ship. So bad it's unplayable. Lowering video settings did not help.
My hardware is better than the minimum settings requirement. At work so don't have the specs.

Start up - 40 - 60 percent usage.
Runs the intro cinematic on the "Press Any Key" screen - 50 - 70 percent.
Then - as soon as it reverts back to "Press Any Key" 97 - 100 percent.
---
Letting the cinematic play a second time drops it back down to 50 - 70. (then again - the spike after)

Minimizing the game makes the CPU usage drop for a few seconds. Is that a common thing with programs?
Also - each time I let the cinematic play - it seems the Mem Usage diminishes. (Started at aruond 80K plus - and now waffled between 30 - 45K mem.

I'm thinking about removing the loading screens via the steps up on this website, I'll get back to you all if it works.
Seriously, BBBureau needs to know about things like this. Even if we are a fraction of the playerbase for ME2, we are paying customers with rights and should not be neglected.
Gamble said something about how they're looking into it, but it would be a second patch...when did you plan on releasing the first patch? Obviously they don't usually divulge that information to the public therefor we are stuck with a gamebreaking issue.
I don't know about the rest of you, but one more day of this and I will be returning this game due to lack of support.

It truely seems like they spent all of their time making sure the Xbox 360 version worked and put the PC version out for you guys to beta test. Lets just hope for your guys sake they don't take forever to fix the bugs
well its alot easier on the xbox because (not 100% sure i dont use console systems anymore) they all have the same equipment for the most part.

p.s the game freezes and unfreezes every few seconds but when it is unfreezed it runs smoothly of course it is a problem because the game itself freezes every 2 seconds for about 5 seconds.

I have single core processor. Installed this. And the game works. You will get a green screen for about 2 seconds and thats it. Oh, you will have to endure some bad lag through the first cinematics until you get to the character screen. After that you are off and running. You can adjust your video settings to anything you wnat with no lag in the game.
