hyper threading is not for single cores, unless its that single core intel cpu with a virtual thread. @u-schultz, we get it but we dont have your problem. Stop spaming. This is mostly about the freezings after cinematics. We already got passed the first load and character creation screen, jeez..
I apologize for "spamming" - I thought I was trying to help some folks.
I'll go back to playing ME2.

It could also explain why others are able to play without the error, perhaps they have newer processors that come with HT enabled....
Obviously this is an educated guess as I am no tech specialist but if Shultz is saying he can still run the game without HT and it boggs down, seems like HT could be our culprit. On the phone with EA support now once I get a human on the other line I will be sure to update.
Once again if anyone can confirm they are running the game without HT and able to play, or if some of the earlier posters on the thread can confirm what their HT setup in BIOS is like, we might get one step closer to an answer.
It's sad that a non-tech like myself or the myriad of others are left to solve this problem 24+ hours after release.

EA,
I bought Mass Effect 2 digital deluxe edition from steam. After installing I found that when I come to the create or import character screen no matter what I choose the game goes to a loading screen and promptly freezes. I am among many customers with the same problem and would like to know what will fix the problem. I exceed the minimum requirements for the game so I am at a loss for what might be wrong; surely you would not have released a game with a known bug like this. I look forward to fixing this and thank you for your timely response. It seems that easy info version 3 also does not work, Due to this I will attach dxdiag instead. http://social.biowar...06/index/772168 this is the thread that goes into further detail about the problem.

Thanks for your interest in the Blood Dragon Armor promotion from Dragon Age: Origins. Your purchase of Dragon Age: Origins for PC, XBox 360, or PS3 entitles you to first purchase redemption of the Blood Dragon Armor for both Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 on any available platform.
Physical copies of the disc will include a Rave card with the requisite code and download instructions.
Players using a digital copy will have codes e-mailed to them by whichever e-retailer they used to purchase the game.
If you have any further questions, please check our knowledge base at support.ea.com, where you can search our available answers or submit an e-mail for follow up.

Just to make it explicit. This seems to be some problem caused by the .bik movies. Every time a bik movie plays, the movie itself will play fine (both in-game and using RAD tools outside the game), but after that, the game goes into stutter mode. The reason the Illusive Man intro movie stutters is because those sun images are bik movies. Similarly, every time we use a mass relay, etc., a bik movie plays and then everything after that stutters. I'm curious, has anyone tried renaming or creating dummy files for all of the bik files and seeing if that stops the stuttering after?
Dude, please read the thread, we've figured that out long ago...
Seriously people, read the thread and stop reposting the same thing, we know it's the .bik files.
I suggest just writing here if you have the problem, and post your specs too (i'm not sure that's required anymore though)

Their response essentially said that they have exhausted their teir 1 troubleshooting tech support and it will be forwarded to "H" (???) asap...then they stated they would get back to me within 48-72 hours via email to help solve the issue. I mentioned the thread as well, but after a new 10+ pages of responses bioware has yet to state anything about an official fix and/or that they are aware of the specific problem for multiple users.
Gamble, Im guessing a moderator up on here, stated that it wasn't just a single core issue...but since then no word. I'm currently waiting on the phone (30 min in----the beginning) and I will bring the issue up again and provide m,ore details if given.
Goodluck all

One desktop has a P4 3ghz with an intel integrated graphics
the other desktop has an AMD Athlon 2650e precessor with Nvidia Gforce 6150 nforce 430
the laptop has a AMD sempron M100 2.0ghz 3gig ram, and a AD M880G with ATI mobility Radeon HD 4200
now would all these pc's lock up at the same spot even if they all r below specs? or would you say its something with the gaming software?

I would. Sure all of those computers could load into the menu screen and run videos, the second it gets to the game engine (and this is where the specs are needed) would be where the game would crash.JayDilla34 wrote...
ok heres my problem i get to where you click male or female then another screen starts to load, and then freezes.....looks like there might be options at the bottom but its blurred. I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop. It freezes at the same spot on all 3 .

Read the rest of the thread. A mod stated that theres issues with the game. We all know about how it freezes on the load screen... it sucks. Bioware knows its a problem and is working on it, thats all we know.
