I got the game on the midnight release. Preordered it. I got it home, installed it, and waited through the intro screens to get to the main menu. As soon as I clicked new game or try to import my character it goes into a loading screen and it stops. Thought it was my lower single core processor but after an upgrade it still happens. Can't get past the very first loading screen to even see the in game movies.

Processor: Intel Celeron 2 core Duo 2.7 GHz

OS: Windows 7 64 bit

Memory: 4GB ram

Video: Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT 512MB ram

DirectX 10

Just adding my 2 cents worth,  Game freezes up and needs to be fixed.
This is an unacceptable release.  If this was a normal business, it would be out of business.

guys keep this thread productive..bioware has acknowledged it and i'd rather see them spending time trying to find the root cause then posting non-stop in here giving us an update. When they have something solid I'm sure they will share it.

Oh I actually have no problem a friend does and am just trying to help on his behalf :) I'm a satisfied bioware customer :)

Someone on another thread told me to check my dxdiag and change a setting.
Well it seem it had work but like 2 or so mins later it started to lag again.
Below is the link to the thread!

I understand what you're saying Phonzo - but I don't think the same people who are researching the problem are the ones coming on here to give updates.

I work in customer service - this would NEVER be alright in a face to face environment.

I have not had any issues with stutter graphics, the first scene runs very smoothly on my rig. The update I had was based solely on the game crashing at loading screens, sorry.

No email yet, forum seems clean of a bioware response, Ill be back in a few hours to check again, until then I am in time killing mode...not collector killing mode haha

Thx again---I am in the same bout as the 153+ with our problem and I feel very neglected even after speaking with tech support twice on the phone and once thru emails. Even tho I don't work for the company I love the Mass Effect universe and would not want my fellow Shepards to continue to be neglected as well.

and if EA is hiring put in a good word for meh! hahaha not much to do but stay positive.

Goodluck!!

I am bashing my head through a wall! I want to play the game! This is exactly why so many players are turning away from PC gaming, including myself.

I am getting the same problem, even though Dragon Age worked fine on my PC. Everything on my computer has had crippling load times, in upwards of 3 minutes sometimes, but it has always worked.

Specs:

Windows XP SP3

AMD Athlon 64 processor 4000+

2.41 GHz, 2 GB RAM

NVidia GeForce 6800GS

What would cause the stuttering? I was able to load my ME1 character fine, then I got to the first cinematic with that ball of fire and that chick with Mr. Illusive. All stuttering. Sound plays through Animation stutters. I get into the game and the ship and start playing my character and still the same stuttering. I don't know if its lag or what. I have everything down to lowest settings possible also and overclocked my Graphics card, 9800Gt, and it hardly did a thing.

I got a single core, but still able to play other recent games perfectly, L4d2, CODMW2 and such with acceptionally high graphic settings so I really would like to know if its a Bioware issue or my computer is just jank. I'm pretty much stressed out since I've been waitin, but now i'm gonna have to upgrade my comp which will take me a month or two to get the money so Its not like I bought a 50 dollar game, but instead its more like 750 dollars since I need to upgrade my computer for it too -_-... But any feed back would be nice.

To re clarify I got passed the stuttering cinematic and onto the ship. The entire flaming scenes completely stuttering. The first conversation stuttering. Then got to go save Joker, and still stuttering. So still want to know the main issue if its just my jank comp or actually Bioware. I'm hoping it is Bioware, but since I've read others have gotten pass the loading screen and played the game smoothly i'm sadly inclined to believe its just my jank computer... Damn Single Core Processor....

tried anything with every possible options.
AS Far as you can get is the real time intro cut scene.
My opinion is that the problem is CPU related (not the dual, single core problem).
Something is overloading the cpu and the GPU is waiting for the processed info from the cpu.
Something is making the cpu work more.. and this something is 5-6 seconds from the cut scene.
As soon as the close up ends from the burning planet(sun.. or whatever it is) ends the stuttering starts.
Maybe the physx engine is overloading the CPU because ATI doest support it. but as i saw in this thread Nvidia users are also experiencing this.

I have played with the GPU and the engine allot. so.. i am 99% certain that something(in that scene) is overloading the cpu

Here's where I'm at with this:

I installed the blank loading screen video fix linked very early on in this thread. That got me past the loading lockup.

Whenever there's a non-engine cutscene (training videos, etc.), directly afterwards, my game stutters so horribly it's unplayable. Saving and loading fixes it.

To get through the first area, I had to deal with the stuttering the whole time, make my character with the stuttering, and then when the next area loaded save and load my game. Then everything was fine (until the next cutscene...then I have to save and load again, and if there's a conversation right after the cutscene, I have to deal with the horrible stuttering until i can save/load my game.)

Seems like the bink video implementation has some big-time threading issues with it - even with blank loading screens, whenever any bink video plays (besides the opening logos, oddly enough), there's horrible stuttering afterwards that's only solved by a save/load.

At least I've gotten to play for awhile I guess, but I'd at least like to see a simple "disable loading screen videos" official option that gets people to where I am without using these posted hacky green loading screen solutions.

Honestly - the single core comment is total bull****.

As an example I provided earlier - Left 4 Dead 2 has steeper specs than Mass Effect 2.

Left 4 Dead 2 runs FINE on my machine.

This, is poor design.

I've had the same exact problem. Once past that it clears up then starts again in the next area. After that it gets wacky. Some game rendered cutscenes are perfect, others are not and it drags the entire game but can be fixed with a quick save quick load. If you want to play you'll have to get used to that because it will happen EVERY time you use a mass relay to move around.
I have a hard time believing this is due to single cores. Some scenes run perfectly but then others break the game.

Like most here I can't even load the game, when I start the game it goes to a black screen then back to my desktop with a Win 7 box saying the program failed. Ugg I would list my specs but like almost every other post in this thread I meet the system requirments with a lot of room to spare. I run Dragon Age maxed out, all my drivers are up to date, the only thing running low is my wallet as I preordered the Collectors Edition and even left work early once my wife called to tell me it had arrived at home. What a let down after all the DLC downloading and instillation time. Hey BioWare, I love you guys and girls, never put out a bad game but how about you make sure the games you put out work on launch day. What di the bad economy make you fire your QA team? Don't think so, not with EA writing the checks these days.

Aww thats it, I think I will still keep my beautiful mental image of BioWare and blam it all on EA. "Fight for the Lost" I sure would like to but the only thing lost is Tech Support!

Mmcfearin - I don't think you're having the same problem as those in this place.

We can get into the game, but once we have the option to start "New Game" or "Import Character" it sits on a Loading screen. There are some poor workarounds - that don't really work - but otherwise, that's where we stop.

Not sure what waiting room your problem is in.

I can sometimes get to the task manager when it locks up, and it states that there's >5 CPU usage, so I don't think it's a CPU issue.

Someone several pages back said that waiting on the "press any key" screen and letting that opening movie go by let them get through our loading screen problem, but you have to do every single time. And the kicker, if you do, the game (according to my task manager) then decides to eat ALL the CPU it can and gives the game more lag time than actual running time, except for scenes that are all CG and don't use character models (like cutscenes with conversation and actual gameplay). So, that shortcut works, if you call "working" waiting (in my case) 15 minutes to get to actual gameplay which is unplayable. And like I said, unless I wait through that opening movie, I still get our loading screen freeze. Finally to throw my computer specs in too...

yeah so I just couldn't stand not playing it anymore so I broke down and switched copies and got the 360 version...... honestly I feel a little dirty, but the game is pretty darn good so far!

Well, it's good to hear they've acknowleged and are working on it. That's enough for me at this point. Let's all maybe ease up on the nerdrage a bit. It's only been a day or two, nobody is perfect, and bugs do exist. Give them time to fix it and do something else in the meantime.

I think I can wait, I have other games that I haven't finished, but my patience is already thin. Right now however, no way no how am I paying Bioware twice for a game. Still I completely understand the urge to just turn around and buy a 360 copy.

Razorxblade -

Where did they let you do that?

I called Best Buy and they said I was not able to switch PC for 360.

i take that back.. its no Physx related.. the physx threads stays at 0 cpu.

all the cpu goes to

MassEffect2.exe!GImage::GImage+0x95948

not the PhysXCore.dll!NpCreatePhysicsSDK+0x223ae

BUT its 100000000% sure that its not based on the GPU!

All the time its stutters my GPU stays the same temperature. If the GPU is under stress it goes above 20-30 degrees.

Now it stays the same degrees like when using windows.

Only the CPU is stressed !!!

Hope this helps BIOWARE!

Look at the CPU optimization. this is cousing the problem. Its not he GPU AT ALL.
