I've read about a fix that involves removing or changing all "load*.bik" files to a blank bik file. I have yet to unlock my game so I cant test it.

I hope those of us with single core processors aren't simply SOL. I do have plans in the near future to upgrade (definitely before March when the DA expansion hits), but I figured I would be able to get ME2 to work on my current rig since DA runs so well. I'm not a computer expert, but judging from the way the opening menus and such, it seems like it would be OK, even though it defaults to a 1024x768 resolution. Hopefully someone will give us some concrete answers soon.

Addiction21 - played around with letting the intro play like you were talking about.

Without intro - I can get into the "New Game" "Cerberus Network" area fine - then, feeze.

With intro (once) - it makes everything Lag.

I wouldn't have the first clue as to what that might mean (if anything) - but it seems seriously out of wack

Note: I did not try to actually run the game yet to see if it would freeze. (yet)

Oh and I got the direct to drive version. Just going to unistall it and redownload it. dunno if it will help but when I preloaded DAO and installed it, that install was a ****ing mess. Redownloaded it after the release and well its several months later and zero problems... and while that goes on I will just go to the bar and have a drink for all us poor sons of b's

I also just tried what Addiction21 did by letting the intro play and I had the same horrible lag happen to me and took forever to get out of the game.

yeah, it started, and the cinematics ran fine, but soon as it swaped over to the illusive man (ingame models) it lagged down like hell.

i'm gonna try to get to a point where i can quicksave and see what happens.

Saving wont help much had already try that to see if it would make a difference!

Im about 45 min into the game now and it hasnt frozen yet! The game plays amazingly as well I would like to add! What the file does is disables the loading screens and just presents a green screen but the game actually does load now! Enjoy!

I have the same problem, I'll import my character and it will take me to the loading screen... Except I never get passed that screen. the 3D logo moves ever so slightly at first and then stops. The music continues but that's about it... my specs are:



AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 Processor, 2.8 GHz

2048MB RAM

GeForce 7950 GT 512MB

 I've pretty much tried every "trick" or workaround suggested...all with the same results. I hate to say it, but I haven't even gotten into the game itself and I'm already sick of it. I'll be deleting this off of my computer to free up 12GB and redownload it from EA once a fixed version is released in a few months. Such a shame too...

Im just trying to figure out what the hell is making the game lag?!

I mean i have just about everything turn off so it wont inter fear with the game and everything is updated.



Makes me wonder if i got the cd version over the digital version if i would still have the same problem.

i'm almost through the intro, still lagging horrible (taking me 4x longer to do everything).



i'm gonna save once i can then restart the game and load directly from the save.



i'm just trying to find a temp fix till bioware gives us a permanent one.

For what it's worth, I have a core i7 and I get to the "loading" screen after making a new character or importing one.. it just plays the loading animation over and over in an endless loop and never proceeds past that point.

The fix above with the blank bik files was created by the groups that pirated the game. It works, but instead of all the bik movies(loading screens, some cutscenes) you get a blank screen. There is another trick more more tech-savvy people. The reason for most of these game freezes and choppy movies is that a single core processor cant deal with laoding game assets and playing a high quality bik at the same time. So, you can download RadVideoTools and use them to lower the quality of the biks using compression. They vids will look worse, but they will be easier to show for your processor.

All this makes me wish I would've waited a while before buying this game. I play quite a few games on my PC, and very rarely if ever would I purchase a game the same day it releases because of problems just like this one. I thought I'd make an exception in this case because I finished my playthrough of the first one just last week, and I was really looking forward to the sequel.

Okay, I can verify that this does indeed work! I'm playing the game! You get a green screen for about 3 seconds and then you're in! Looks like it just renames some of the initial movie files, but you still get to watch the whole 4-5 minute intro movie. Thanks a ton!!!

Nat - got the same results you did.



Let intro play - suffered through the lag at the "Cerberus Terminal" and "New Game" option - then, it loaded fine.



Reviewed my Shepard's traits - then hit Continue.



Cinematic starts out fine - then when it turns into gameplay footage - it lags again.



C'mon Bioware - we're doing most of the work for you. At least give us some feedback.
