Still freezing up on loading screen

Left 4 Dead 2 runs great on my system and it "Requires" Dual Core. I refuse to believe that a multiplayer FPS is not more intensive than an action RPG.
Qwinn - you said you're running single core, and you ran the "fix", and now you're working flawlessly? I've used that "fix" and I've had no such luck.
Fifty dollars wasted because Best Buy won't allow me to trade it for the 360 version - which, btw, is NOT as powerful as my computer - but can still run Mass Effect 2.
I can only imagine they took shortcuts with the computer version forcing it to require higher specs.

Actually computer game will always ask more then console version, for console hardware is highly optimized on very few purpose, while computer have few optimization and almost endless purpose.

Im going to enable HAL on my Vista comp in just a second and try and run the game. If I get thru the second loading screen without a freeze then I will edit this post and give yall a heads up.
Edit: Enabled HAL on msconfig's boot menu, under advanced options and restarted, no fix for me.
To be honest I cannot tell STILL if my computer is utilizing both cores...

If ME2 isn't made for single core fine, so be it. BUT PLEASE BIOWARE!! fix this issue! If you release a patch i won't complain here again about a bug that is caused by a single core! I don't care if there are more bugs then usual, but i want to be able to play your games at least!
AMEN

hmm maybe onto something qwinn.
It'd be great if those with multicore processors fired up the configuration tool and went to the system tab.
It should list your cpu model, type (includes family and stepping) and finally the # of cpus and the # of cores.
Please tell us how many cores the config utility is seeing.
In terms of single core users this makes sense as the game is streaming and loading information while each intro movies plays for the next gameplay bit. This also explains those who have applied the patch but occasionally experience lag primarily in the galaxy map. That is because the game is again loading data while you are flying around the galaxy map. Normally one core would do the grunt work of loading the data while the other was dedicated to your flying around.

used the single core no intro fix and am now able to get past the initial loading screen lockup after selecting male or female character and starting a new game, but the rest of the video loads and plays so slow and choppy that its simply unplayable.

for most people i think if you get passed the 1st grueling 10-20mins of the game it wont be choppy anymore, not in my case though

However, the true intention of this post is simply to register on here (as i have with an email ticket on the EA customer care page) my wanting to hear from a credible Bioware/EA source whether or not they intend to patch this issue in particular. I have read back through this entire thread and have seen the comments regarding the "potential" second patch etc. This is simply me posting in the hope that someone at Bioware may get back to us with confirmation of their intentions either way at at some point in the near future as there seem to be many people who would like to know either way.
Heres hoping!

but, is there a general consensus of if it's an AMD issue or INTEL?
also, is it a single core issue?

I have played L4D2 on this comp yet it say it requires a dual core and it runs fine
so why would this be different?

Untrue. I've tried tons of permutations with my settings, windowed or not, diffrent resoultions, graphical and audio settings... Still freezes.

Next was a AMD X2 5600, 2gig ram, same videocard, Same deal, But save / reload and the game runs even better 45-65 fps
The game itself runs Great once you save and reload, But you hit a pre-rendered cutscene or Bink Video, It'll die on ya, and start to stutter.
I've tried everything from turning Physx Nvidia off, Turning Cool'n'Quiet off in my bios on each system, Nothings worked.

TBH I cannot even tell if my computer is recognizing and utilizing both cores. Under the task manager, I checked to make sure to have it show one graph per CPU, yet it still only shows one after I enabled "detect HAL"...I downloaded a vista widget that is supposedly supposed to show both cores usage and I have seen one core spike to 96% but still I have not been able to see the second core be used at all (meaning it stays at 0% regardless of the program)
I tried following some of the steps within this thread for enabling both cores and I cannot find exactly what I am looking for. If someone know how to do it with windows vista please enlighten me so I can see if both cores are working.
This is frustrating and beyond my understanding but to let a bug like this get through is unfortunate. They will undoubtedly lose money because of this.
Edit: As with the poster above me, ME2 config is not recognizing that I have a dual core either, another reason why I do NOT think my computer is utilizing both cores.
