I bought ME2 collector's edition - hard copy. Installed on my quad core Windows 7 x64 system | 8800 GT w/ latest drivers | and it crahses upon launching the game every time. I downloaded and tried the blank bik files - no dice. This is pathetic. We finally get a decent game the same day the 360 version is launched, and we still get dumped on. GG bioware

tab, i'd agree with you, but there are some people on this thread with some more powerful machines getting the same error. i thought that at first but now i'm more inclined to think it is a bug of some sort.

here you guys go!

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1KHDBLIL

download that and install it solves the problems with freezing at the loading screen! I have a single core processor... this really does work! Im about 45 min into the game now and it hasnt frozen yet! The game plays amazingly as well I would like to add! What the file does is disables the loading screens and just presents a green screen but the game actually does load now! Enjoy!

what is the file?

Okay, I can verify that this does indeed work! I'm playing the game! You get a green screen for about 3 seconds and then you're in! Looks like it just renames some of the initial movie files, but you still get to watch the whole 4-5 minute intro movie. Thanks a ton!!!

Do the movies that this file causes the game to skip reveal any important plot information?
I dont want to have to fill in the blanks while playing the game.

I used the mega upload file that was posted, it got me through the loading screen and intro starts off fine but like Medhia Nox when the in game graphics come into play the game suffers horrible lag.

so, i made it through the intro, got to the part where you customize shepard, did so, then the proceeding loading screen? (with the skeleton) froze again. so even if you sit through the title screen cinematic, then lag your way through, it will still freeze. :P

and i'm still not downloading that patch.

any ideas?

Downloaded that file, got me through the screen to import my character, did so just fine, then when the cinematic starts, it stutters horribly. It would take me an hour just to get through this five minute cinematic. I'm about ready to throw in the towel here. This is silly. 2.4ghz Dual core and all the necessary drivers/hardware and I'm still suffering.

Though I'm just as disappointed as you are, at least it helps us see that this is more than just a problem exclusive to users with single core processors.

I've read that people who endured intro + palying Normandy intro bit. game will work fine after that. probably means you have to endure 30 min

I also have the problem mentioned here... and I am sporting an Athlon 64 4000+ processor.

I tried letting the intro cinematic play through before starting the game, and it worked ... I was able to play some of the game's intro until it got to another loading screen, and it froze again just like before.

Apparently the game simply cant run on single core processors. We are all SOL. Wonder if I can get my money back.

I don't know that file seems to only get you through the loading screen that freezes after that during Cerberus Network scene it lags throughout the whole thing then when the next cinematic starts with the Normandy and it getting attack everything runs smooth accept there are no voices, then when it cuts to in-game footage inside the Normandy its really laggy like in the Cerberus Network scene. This is getting ridiculous.

wouldn't get your hopes up there. maybe a few days to a few weeks, if i had my guess.

looking at others on this forum, the vast majority of people seem to be working fine. most people just seem to be pissed that the EA servers crashed, so they can't access cerberus, which i was actually able to do before it crashed.

I got the ME2 Collectors Edition from Amazon. Downloaded and installed the DLC and cannot connect to the Cerebrus network just like everyone else. I tried starting up the game without verifying the DLC and the moment i click on Male character, or Female character, or accept my ME1 profile it gives me the loading screen that freezes up. sounds like we're going to need a patch from Bioware with all the problems that are going on for PC users. I use a quad core processor and a 9500 series 1gb Nvidia card. no problems with my specs what-so-ever. I'm about ready to demand my money back and get the Xbox game.
