The reports of single core users playing the game flawlessly after replacing the load videos, with no stutters or lag during chat scenes or after cutscene

I don't believe there have been any such reports. Far as I can tell, everyone who has a single core, and had the loading freeze problem at all, has the stuttering/freezing issue.

At least one person misunderstood my post to mean that I wasn't having those problems, but that can only be because they only read the first paragraph of the post, heh. It's working flawlessly *other than* the freezing/stuttering issue after certain cinematics play.

Qwinn

I have a single core processor(Athlon 64 3800+) and I can run the game just fine if I use the blank .bik files for the loading screens. The rest of the cinematics work just fine with no stuttering and gameplay is very smooth.

I did follow your instructions, and put only one "/" instead of the two.

Well...maybe my computer try to send me to bed (Where I am it's 22h50 PM).

danthraxxx, what's your OS? And, is it 32bit or 64bit? I know your processor is 64, so is mine, but I'm not taking advantage of it because when Microsoft offered the free upgrade from 32, none of my games supported 64 bit, and XP64 would have rendered them unplayable (at the time).

Dakeyras, please upload a screenshot of your desktop shortcut properties.
If you made a typo,it will not work.
If you write right after "without space it won't work.

-Dakeyras- make sure you're using the filepath you intsalled it to, and going into the binaries folder for the masseffect2.exe, not the masseffect2launcher.exe... also, make sure it's a backslash, not forwardslash... makes a big difference

Find MassEffect2.exe in your MassEffect2\\\\Binaries folder. Create a shortcut of MassEffect2.exe. Right-click the shortcut and select properties. Where it says target, you want it to look like. "C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\Binaries\\\\MassEffect2.exe" -nomoviestartup

This works! Thanks Sylenced for the idea and Qistis for clarification on what exactly.  I set the new shortcut on my desktop. I've been looking since the release for a fix and this is the best fix I've found so far.  The game is so beautiful that I won't mind playing again once the patch is available.Image IPB BTW I'm running a single core AMD 2.2Ghz with 2 Mb RAM and a lovely 1Gb AGP Vid card and am running the game at full settings too!  Just sucks you don't get to see the movies so I might be in the dark a bit through the story.

Find the masseffect2.exe file on your computer, make a shortcut, and add the option to it.
Mine looks like this:
"C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\Binaries\\\\MassEffect2.exe" -nomoviestartup

This does get rid of the lockups/jitters, but not playing those bink cutscenes cuts out a decent chunk of the story. Honestly I'd rather play with the stuttering after story scenes, since I have no idea what those story movies show, this being my first playthrough and all.

Definitely proves that the bink (prerendered) cutscenes and their implementation are what is causing the stuttering / loading screen lockups, though.

thxs everyone the game now works for me:O only thing I didn't get my imported face but it's ok hehehe

Loading screen issue(after choosing New game/with importing saves or without).

My spec: Intel Celeron D CPU 3,33 GHz

memory - 2.0 GB RAM

video: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

windows XP sp3

I use "-nomoviestartup", but this remove all . bik video-scenes. Without this scenes - game isn't interesting.

I believe in BioWare. Please, solve this problem!

Hi,

I just bought ME2 just over 2 hours ago. Installed the game, created my account and redeemed codes for access to DLC via the Cerberus Network.
I installed the DLC and when starting the ME2 shortcut, clicked on the configure utility. I wanted to import my ME1 saves, so slected my save folder from ME1.

When I clicked on play however, the game freezes immediately. I cannot even get into the game menu to select a new game, from what i've read, the moment that most other posters seem to suffer problems.

What did i do wrong? Should i not have immediately installed the DLC? Should i not have yet tried to import my ME1 saves before even having started a game? Can my problem be fixed by uninstalling the game and reinstalling it without installing the DLC? I am running Windows Vista 64 bit. Could that be a problem? Dragon Age has no problems running on my system. I am very confused and dissappointed for i was really looking forward to this game.
I do not think that my pc is the problem, but here are my specs:

Intel core i7 CPU 940@ 2.93 GHz
Windows Vista 64 bit
12GB RAM
1.75GB VRAM on dual NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260
2TB HDD

I'd very much appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Kind regards,

CannonFodderNL

Win7 32.bit
3 gigs of ram
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS

I know my system is *technically* under system reqs, but it runs the game just fine.

FIrst of all, i have a quad core, and am suffering these problems too. I am about to try the 'movieless' version by altering properties on a shortcut, but am appalled at doing so. No help from BioWare yet??

i have a similar freezing problem that posted on another post but am redirected to this post, so i will post it here.

My computer is freezing strangely when i started to play mass effect 2 (DVD version) this morning. I would be able to start the game, import my ME1 characters and finishing loading. I get to see the introduction scene until right after the normandy appears. The game would freeze then i restarted my computer and load the game again. I was able to get a min more content and freeze again. Do it again and i will be able to get further into the game before crashing. Sometimes the freeze will come with looping sound. Tried a few more times with similar results (I was finally able to get to creating character screen).

I had tried to update my drivers, Cleaning my driver.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

System Spec:
Window XP sp3
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+
Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
Audio driver: C-Media CM6501 Like Sound Device
4GB Ram
Direct x 9.0c

I slowed down my freezes my problem by just going to 800x600 reslolution and window mode...

Right click on Mass Effect 2 in the games list.

Select properties.

Click "Set Launch Options"

Type in "-nomoviestartup" (or copy paste without the parentheses)

Click ok and close properties box.

The game consistently locks up on the loading screen where you see a skeleton laying down with the scan going from toe to head. This is after finalising the character import. I do not get stutter in the videos/Normandy part though.

Tested on the following setups:

AMD Phenom II 965 BE @ 3.8GHz

8GB 1600MHz DDR3 (Unganged)

ATi Radeon HD5870 1GB

Dual Boot XP Pro 32bit + Win7 Ultimate 64bit (tested in both OS's)

AMD Phenom II 720 BE (4th core unlocked)

4GB 1066Mhz DDR2

ATi Radeon 5750 1GB

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Intel Core i7 960 @ 4.4GHz

12GB 2000MHz DDR3

nVidia GeForce GTX285 2GB

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Config utility does recognise the CPU correctly on each system.

Using the no intro command it gets to setting up the look of the character but doesn't import the old face at all. Reinstalling doesn't solve the issue here, neither does the intro fix (either replacing or bypassing). As it stands this game gives less than 5 minutes gameplay so far.

On a side note, ATi Catalyst 10.1 immediately crashes ME2 on launch with a grey screen of death (Win7 64bit), 9.12 Hotfix doesn't do this.

I have found something in the game file that might correct the crash when you do the -nomoviestartup thing.

I am off to test it out, if it work I will post the detail, but give me a few since I am only just pass the prologue, but since will be go fluently now I can get to citadel without too much trouble or is it an other video then the one when you dock in the citadel ?

It isn't a fix - but it's made it so a lot of us can now play. You have my sincerest thanks.
