Sylenced -

So you recommend staying away from the Citadel for now? ((It was going to be my next distination after Omega))

And what is the "IFF" mission?

Thanks again man - a lot of us here owe you. You made a completely wasted purchase into something at least 80% viable.

=============

And I gotta say - I downloaded the Bink player.

I've been watching the videos. To those of us with Sylenced's work around - we're not missing an insane amount. It doesn't make everything "okay" - but my recommendation is to download the player and after you've shut down the program to watch the movies that you missed.

Example: I watched the Citadel landing movie. It's nice and all  - but not worth "Requiring" Dual Core processors.

You can get to the citadel using the green loading screen AND movies,since that won't lag,but if it does,get on the citadel and save.
*SPOILER*And the IFF mission is among the last ones,after you have everyone's loyalty,no way of getting it to work so far.

@lolmanftw,afaik that needs to be in the profile config,in my documents/etc/etc hence the question :P
@Medhia Nox,indeed,but still,the experience of seeing it in-game leaves a print on you,a better one than watching a sound-free movie in Rad.
@Coalesced.ini
The amount of information in there is just incredible,but even the slightest edit makes the game install useless,and I wonder what would happen with PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True
If anyone with a single core or whatever combo managed to get past the shuttle thingy(IFF mission) I'd appreciate you passing me through that(pm me)

Actually, if everyone pirated the game rather than paying for it, Bioware wouldn't be able to pay people to fix it so that we can play the whole thing with movies.

This whole user hardware mess is exactly why a lot of developers have given up making games for PCs and only release on consoles. I'm *hugely* grateful that Bioware gives enough of a s**t to not only make games for PCs, but also to stand behind them when they're released.

Anyone else have muffled voices during the "personal response" scenes?

All the voices are very quiet, but only in the personal response scenes (while i'm playing, moving, etc. the voices are perfectly heard)

Wondering if anyone is having this issue as well? I DID use the -nomoviestartup fix....

We're aware of the issue, and will be working on providing a fix in the *second* patch. The first patch is going to be released very shortly, and thus it is too late for this fix.

To be clear, the fix does ONLY impact single core users (as well as dual core users who only have one core reported by their operating system (beyond our control). As a result, this is lower than our min-spec, so it's not a matter of "not testing the game". We're doing this so we can create the best game possible, and make sure that everyone is able to play.

Thanks.

Yessss!Image IPB Bioware will never let me down. I'm waiting eagerly for your patch/fix! This shows that Bioware doesn't (only) care about money but also about creating the best game possible, and make sure that everyone is able to play.

I just wanted to add my two cents' worth. I backed up and replaced all the .bik files in the movies folder so they all are now 1Kb, and the game runs slick as melted butter with everything maxed out. The only place I had a freeze was at the intro and end scenes on Horizon (I haven't been to the Citadel yet, though). I think that the issue has to do with the audio codec being used, as I can watch the videos with the player provided by radtools. Then again, it could be as someone stated earlier in this thread, the processor just can't handle processing audio, video, and loading the next part of the game. Yes, BTW, I am using a single core, but it's a 64-bit processor (Celeron D - 3.46 GHz), and can handle every other game I've thrown at it, including Crysis (I & II), DAO, L4D2, and many others, with all the bells and whistles on & at full res. My specs are as follows....
Celeron D - 3.46 GHz (64-bit)
2 Gigs Corsair
GeForce 8800GTS 512 w/196.21 WHQL drivers
Plenty of space on my HD (I have over a Terabyte)
WinXP Pro w/SP3
Realtek HD Audio Output (Driver Ver. 5.10.0.5548)
DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

I'm curios about the iff mission..why should I avoid it.??. I'm done with all the side quests/loyal etc.. it was my next destination.. whats wrong with it..? I'm guessing its a cinematics after cinematic which will make the game freeze..? hence Im going to miss important stuff?

I remember the first time I installed Mass Effect 1 I used to get a weird error which didn't let me get into the game. I downloaded the patch and it worked great after that. I am afraid we bought the game too soon. We should have waited for them to release a patch for this as well then buy the game. It is very dishonest for a company to release a non-finished game to the public and asking them to "Fix" it here and there so they can play it. Surprisingly it happens to most games that go to Xbox and PC. I am not sure if it is only technical difficulties and not a decision as a whole to force players to get the Xbox version.

I am only describing it as it looks from our perspective, I may be mistaken but from all this mess it seems they deliberately released a buggy game in the PC version. Don't we pay for the game on PC? Aren't we entitled to have a working product in our hands? Why not taking some extra time to test the game before releasing it? I have a lot of respect for you guys in bioware and in particular those of you who do read these posts but how on earth can you release such glitchy game to public?

My friend found a pirated version on Isohunt on Saturday and started downloading it.I bought the game on Monday from D2D and haven't been able to even run it. I formatted my hard drive twice for this game and installed a new version of windows each time but to no effect. He started playing it Wednesday and I am still here begging for help. I want to support you guys, I love your products but seriously, how did you mess this up? I'm seriously thinking my decision to buy the game was a mistake.

I agree, there are some PC games that if you have a problem with, you are screwed because the most support you will get will be from forum users who are likely to just insult you for not being able to play.  I'm willing to wait for the patch, I want to play the game as it was meant to be played.

Same problem here. Single core AMD...

This is why I always liked VALVE. They make quality products that can run very well even on outdated PCs. No lags, no lock-ups, nothing. It just works perfectly from the first day of release.

--=> Attention Bio-Ware <=---

Before I forget again, I tried to visit the citadel lastnight with the no movie switch enabled. I got treated to the game stalling with a blank black screen, oddly. The only place I've seen that happen so far. So I exit th game, and loaded the game normally from a save I made just for the event it screwed up again.

It loaded and played just fine for the few minuets I wante to play before going to bed. I did however see a small, insignificant, probally nothing error breifly. You know, a Faus pas the size of EA HQ. The X-Box 360 control scheem appeared!

Did I fail to say this is the PC version? What are the resouces to do that even present for?

Now as I know it can be a bother to read what people post, espcially at Bio-Ware. (Ok, that's only part sarcasm. I know it can be a pain, and I know Bio-Ware can't always be bothered to pay attention to rude whims. Still, you do a fair to very good job at that.) Being too important to pay attention to the peons. May I direct your attention to some MD5 check sums I generated a day or so ago? (If you prefer they can be SHA-1 SHA-128 or SHA-256. I supose I could modify the program for SHA-512 or SHA-1024 if demaned or any number of other encyption scheams, but that's un-needed trouble. It's just a checksum, not a bank account.

I was very critical before, and I still think that this bug should never have made it into the final release. But now that I've made it past the initial anger and come to see how fantastic the game is so far, I think we should at least also be glad that the game apart from the bug has been programmed so well that it runs at all and in fact very smoothly even on single core CPUs. I can overlook the annoyance for now, but still hope that'll we get a fix soon. There should not be much code that needs to be changed. For example, as has been said, reloading fixes the enormous lag. So whatever function is responsible during reload for fixing it, should also be used after a movie has played. The loading freeze is a minor problem that could most easily be solved by providing an option for static loading screens.

By the way, I don't think this has anything to do with audio, since disabling it in the ini doesn't change a thing (apart from everything being mute of course). And I don't think it has to do with the video format or bandwith either, as even replacing all biks with the very small movies from the unofficial "fix" doesn't change a thing. Also, while the movies do play with the binkw32.dll from ME 1, the bug persists.

Using either workaround,you can't pass,black screen occurs.

Trying to go the normal movie way ends in a freeze.

So I've used the -nomoviestartup fix and everything runs perfectly now, on the highest settings even... except I really want to visit Anderson on Citadel and that just doesn't seem possible. Every time I try to go there I get a black loading screen and the game locks up.

Having movies enabled is necessary for entering Citadel? Why would this be the case and is there any way around this?
