I believe Mike has stated that it is a single-core issue, and this is why:
With multiple-core processors, developers are able to divide the game's workload onto different cores. This is simply in theory, but most likely; that is exactly what they have done here. While the load screen plays, the game was programmed to load textures, information, whatever; on another core. That is why is it freezing up, (this would explain CPU spiking in the Task Manager). As far as the problems people are having who have multiple-core processors, it is probably a bug within the configuration tool, or something simple that they didn't see on their internal testing systems.
If I am correct, and this is the case, then it would literally be hell to modify the game in the form of a patch to fix the problem on single-core systems. While games like Left For Dead 2, or Batman:Arkham Asylum (I.E., they aren't utilizing multiple-core processors) may run fine on a single-core, the minimum specs for both games include single-cores. Such is not the case for Mass Effect 2.
um, no, L4D2 requires dual core. Also that's obviously not how it works since all we need to do is watch the intro and we get past the loading screen.
Just update BIOS of mainboard ant that is it.. This was my trouble too... I fight wit it about 3 days... But after update of Bios, I SOLVED IT!!
