Thanks for the long explanation on dual-core workings. But really, do we care? ...
You may not, but we (myself included) were getting abusive of Bio-Ware. I don't think it's good for them to get defensive, so someone needed to speak up on their behalve. (even if I don't have a high view of them right now.) Other then that? Two reasons:
First, I walked Mr.Gamble though how I'm either a raving idiot to be ignored or someone who might know a few things to be listened to when I say it can't simply be a problem because someone doesn't have a multi-core processer. (Well, without the admission Bio-Ware cut corners. When I allow the game to play un-modded, my load times with my single core are two or three times faster then the playthoughs I see on you-tube.)
Second, Somone that took to the time to understand my babbling is now better equipted to understand the problem.

I hope you guys realize that IF this issue is indeed a single-core issue, you guys have a class ACTION LAWSUIT on your hands?
The undeniable fact is that NONE OF THIS was made clear to your consumers ahead of time. NOONE here who pre-ordered was aware that they would not be able to proceed past the first loading screen, and I suspect the vast majority of single-core users (and while a minority, still a great number of users considering how many people will eventually purchase this title) are also in the dark.
The following is what you should have done if this was indeed a known single-core issue:
1) Ensure that retailers (including digital distributors and online distributors) are aware of this issue and communicate this message to a prospective buyer PRIOR to the purchase. As you're probably realizing, NONE OF US are able to return this product, and that's a serious problem.
2) Check for the users' system specs during the installation, and BEFORE asking the user to input the key code, or at the least flash a warning message from the startup menu stating that "THIS GAME WILL NOT RUN ON YOUR COMPUTER! UPGRADE IT TO A DUAL CORE PROCESSOR"
What we have here is a product that had an ENFORCED minimum requirement that prevents people from using their product. And this requirement was NOT communicated properly to the consumers AHEAD OF TIME.
I don't care if this was stated on the back of the box.
I don't care if this is displayed under some obscure legal disclaimer link on your website.
The fact remains that PEOPLE DID NOT KNOW THIS going into their purchase, and are now unable to return this product even if they so choose to do so.
Here's an example:
http://www.amazon.co...65048053&sr=8-3
That's the link to the Amazon product page. Please note how there is absolutely no mention of dual-core processors being a requirement. How are people supposed to know not to buy this game?
For your sake, I hope you take this situation more seriously, because it honestly sounds like you guys at BioWare over there are laughing at the single-core users for getting duped. How many copies of the PC version do you expect to sell? 200,000? 500,000? (I know ME1 360 sold 1.2mil-ish, but don't have PC figures with me at the moment) If you assume 5% of those people are single-core users, you're still looking at a 10,000~25,000 userbase that got screwed by your mishandling of this.
And if you think you can just point at the back of the box and pretend like this is not your problem, you're in for a nasty headache.
I give up.

I'm mad enough to wait a good long time before I buy another Bioware game at full price - but you're seriously going way overboard.
It says on the back of the box - "Requires Dual Core".
Now, if you want to state: "The requirement was an act of sheer laziness on the part of Mass Effect 2's pitiful architecture and there was no need for this problem." Then, I'm with you -
If you wanted to state: "It took them nearly 150 plus people before they even started responding to us - and now we're at 250 plus people - and they're still spending their time reminding us it's "our fault" - then, I'm with you..
But this stuff your throwing around. I don't support it.

im just happy to know that at least the -nomoviestartup add works, even if the citadel/endgame is not accessible (and believe me, i've tried to get around that mess-up with every suggestion i can find here). leastways i can play the game really smoothly, and by god, even missing the citadel and the bink movies, it is one of the best gaming experiences i have ever had. there really is nothing more satisfying than watching a mantis shot crack through an eclipse commando's head...

We bought it because we loved ME 1 and so far have been really dissappointed with not getting past the loading screen.
The funny thing is, we just finished playing Divinity2 and it had the exact same problem which they solved with a patch.
Hopefully Bioware will give us a patch asap so we can see the beauty of this long awaited game.

Ok, I feel a little dirty for writing this. As if I somehow came up with this myself and it isn't explained thoroughly in 50+ pages of threads. That anyone who actually cared to figure it out couldn't just skim through and find the solutions, but I know they won't. I also didn't see it all broken down, and people also don't seem to be bright enough to look for each separate problem, so here they all are.
Loading Lockup
Citidel Access
IFF
The first thing I have is three different ways to load the game. I have two shortcuts. One is a normal shortcut, the other is the -nomoviestartup shortcut. Then I have an extra folder in BioGame folder of the main install, for movies. I have all the movies untouched in one folder and the movies with the greened out load movies in another. This solves everything, with some extra effort that shouldn't otherwise be necessary.
Now, I may be putting this together, but I'm not bothering to explain, AGAIN, what these are. They are thoroughly explained in this thread, over and over. Do a LITTLE work for yourself.
Loading Lockup
Now. If you want to watch movies, then you're going to have to use the greened out load movies, but be prepared to watch excruciatingly long cut sceens due to the lagging. This is your only way to get to see what happens to the normandy in the beginning of the game. Your first opportunity to save the game doesn't happen until after 2 or three movies and 3 cut scenes, so it can take a long time.
If you don't really need to see what happens then start the game with your -nomovie shortcut instead and simply save it when you "wake up."
From here you have a choice. It's the same choice, with the same losses. If you really don't care about landing and taking off, then play through with the -nomovie. It's no big deal, not a lot happens that's important, it just looks cooler. If you don't have a problem with saving, exiting then reloading then play through with the green loads. It will just take longer, and if you stumble on a cutscene it will take even longer. The key is every time you get control, save the game, exit and restart and you will be lag free again until you play another movie. Not all movies cause lag.
The mass effect gates are not effected by the green load. Every time you go through a mass effect gate you will get lag. -nomovie clears this problem.
Citidel Access
In order to access the citidel you have to have movies enabled. BUT, those movies don't cause lag. So if you want to get on the citidel, and you SHOULD want to do that. Simply save it once you get through the mass relay, then restart with green loads enabled.
IFF
The IFF is the only part of the game that you can't complete without full video. And every video causes lag. The work around does not become necessary until after the IFF is being installed on the ship, and again does not become necessary until you actually access the galaxy map. Accessing the galaxy map triggers the situation. So make sure to save before then. Also, make sure that you have talked to everyone and done everything you mean to do by that point.
In order to complete IFF, rename your green load folder to something other then movie, and rename your full movie folder to Movie. Load the game. DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY. Wait for the trailer to play once. Press any key. Suffer through lag as you reload. Access the galaxy map. You will see some cinimatics and cut sceens. You will have to navigate through the ship in a noncombat playthrough, then suffer some more cut scenes before you ever get the chance to save. It will take a long time, but once you're through it, you're through it.
Once you're through all that save it, rename the movie folders back, and play the rest of the game the way you prefer.
*End Game*
I thought I'd just throw this in for fun. If you want to watch the complete endgame with video, and you probably do, the game auto saves at two points in the initial sequence, where combat starts. You can relaod the game just after combat starts and you will start right at the combat, playing normally. You can't save the game yourself, but it will let you fight without lag and still watch the cinimatics.
All of this, other then the last thing there, is available in this thread if you bothered to look. Still, there you go. That's how to play the whole game through with a single core.

Im curious as to how you even get past the initial load if you arent using green screen loads (which results in a freeze at the stupid mass effect relay loading screen).
