PC Player here, the game is fun on PC too(without a gamepad)... I just wish we could walk the Character at times though. I have a gamepad, refuse to play this game with it. I love the amount(so much) of quests, it gives me a lot to do if I re-roll another character. This assures me I won't be finished in a hurry, and I don't have to come in here an rant about the "lack" of quests .

'Addictive' would be the one word I would use for it. It is easy to poke flaws, but I can't stop playing!

Appreciated by console players, hated by PC players.

I'm a PC player and had very little problems playing the game. I got used to the controls, made some setting changes, and am having a fabulous time playing.

I wish the complaining PC players would NOT try to speak for all of us.

Better then what I expected from Bioware after ME3, DA2 and TOR.

I'd say better than one could reasonably hope for but not perfect.

Due to it being the first more "Open-World-y" game BioWare produced in years with all the requirements a modern Open-World game has, it's in the "okay -good" category. There are problems with the main story, the villain and the placement/implementation of some side quests. Latter especially in the starting area The Hinderlands. This area is probably the weakest in the whole game and thus totally fails at its general introduction task. The reasons would require a new thread and a huge wall of text.

So, there is a lot to learn for the team if they are going to continue exploring Open-World in new games. But there is definitly potential.

To the ones saying to much MMO fetch quests you do know this was to be a dragon age MMO, BEFORE it was changed to sp game right?!?

to the ones saying mp is boring give it time you remember that ME3mp was boring till they gave new maps and new  characters and weekly missions to do right,

PC players be thankful that you actually got a game to play rather than play online only, i know us console players are very thankful to have a dragonage title game for are next gen consoles, and yes i will keep saying this till  you understand what they did, as for why they changed it from  MMO to sp, with mp game quests i betting they couldnt get rid of the core mmo fetch quests

PC-player here, and I love it to bits. Currently on my 4th playthrough (sure my 3rd isn't quite finished yet but minor details) and I am nowhere near tired of the game.

2014, the year of mediocrity. No wonder DAI got game of the year...

Pretty much. Isn't DAI like the only RPG that came out this year? I can only remember Japanese ones that came out but they will never get the focus this game did. Admittedly I'm having a blast with Alpha Sapphire but then again that was game I played almost eleven years ago...

Well worth the price I paid. My savegame tells me I spent ~88 hours on my first playthrough (Human male noble warrior that sided with Templars), but there was a bunch I didn't do (Didn't go full monty on all dragons, didn't collect all shards, didn't get all the mosaics).

First of all - For like 5 minutes, they toyed around with making a DA MMO in Frostbite and some of the engine stuff comes from this. It's unlikely that the story or world comes from this time, but many of the combat mechanics may. It's not like it was designed as an MMO and repurposed to SP. They were tinkering around in the engine to maybe make a multiplayer-only game before DA2 was even out and that was the initial start of the programming foundation. Not the design decisions of the game, per se.

Second of all - RPGs invented fetch quests, and MMOs borrowed them. Well, technically MMORPGs borrowed them. The first MMOs weren't even the type of game we'd associate with MMOs today. They were essentially shooters and/or rogue-likes. But whatever.

I would say its made great strides forward in some areas like world creation, exploration, etc.   In other areas, it has taken two steps back such as the game mechanics.   The 8 slot bar, poor controls, lack of tactics, gutted skillsets, etc.

Its a beautiful large game with great story and character work, but lost its pause and play tactical combat in the process.

On BSN, or at least from the more vocal members here who probably have no other place to vent: trash, burn it, etc.

In the real world, people love it. I suppose you could say it appeals more to casual players, I'm running into a bunch of people I had no idea were into DA or RPGs (or they weren't) who are playing and loving this game, which didn't happen with DA2.

In overall:

Too short main campaign, too much like a MMO and to many side quests.

Lacks that special "dragon age" spirit you got from DAO and DA2

It definitely seems like DA:I has more awareness out and about. A lot of my RL friends who were never into DA bought it and are even thinking of playing the first two because of it (I warned a few it was more linear etc). Hopefully that translates into the sales BioWare wants.

In general? In general the consensus seems to be a great deal more positive than it was for DA2. That's something.

That is very true. I like DAI better than DA2, but I guess that isn't saying much. Then again I wasn't a huge fan of DAO. I guess when it comes down to it the Dragon Age series was something I played because it was out at the right time. The characters have always been interesting and lots of fun but the story... it's always been a fantasy trope.

It's sad that I would love for Bioware to go back to the Dungeons and Dragons world because their work outside of that setting is hit or miss.

first glance:

- tons of little annoying things: crashes (the hell, i upgraded my PC just so i could play the game on ultra, did clean gpu drivers instal like 10 times), stuttering, awful AWFUL m&kb support, not working skills (or semi working), annoying mob respawns (i don't mind them, but let me save after battle and don't spawn the same enemies in the same place after i reload, they're dead, i killed them), confusing light show instead of combat

+ breathtaking visuals, huge world, interesting chars, exploration, crafting

i was very close to throw my monitor out of the window so many times, as i was genuinely immersed into the world - i decided to wait for patch and never ever buy a game before reading/watching reliable review.

i guess the consensus is... try it, you might love it, and if you plan to play on console, there is good chance you will

Pros:

-Engaging storyline (mostly) throughout. Branching decisions are thoughtful and appreciated.

-More customization than ever before. Could always use more, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

-Hours and hours...and hours of gameplay, activities, and huge areas to explore. I haven't spent as much time on a single playthrough than any other game with a linear plot before (which excludes games like Elders Scrolls, Fallout, WoW, etc.)

-Solid, entertaining combat. Attacks hit hard and have weight behind them. The game is a little too flashy...but it creates a certain charm (think the clunky but tactical approach to ME1 or DA:O...had its faults but most ended up liking it a lot). The sum of its parts add up nicely.

-Judgements are exciting, plentiful, and varied.

-Lots of companions and NPCs to meet. Most of the voice acting is solid.

-Epic soundtrack.

-Dragon battles are exhilarating and unique.

Cons:

-This is a buggy, BUGGY game. No game breaking bugs, but the bugs that are present are damn near close to game breaking. Some story scenes literally refuse to play out, and get awkward stagnated during key moments. Really kills the immersion and investment to the story. Other bugs include getting stuck in objects/corners, and not being able to complete/turn in certain quests. Such is the plight that many RPGs of this magnitude face.

-Some really poorly written dialogues and bad voice-overs.

-Lack of tactics. The few options we receive in the AI controlling its own behavior is abysmal, especially in comparison to previous games.

-No stat allocation is a terrible idea in RPGs of this style. Despite what crafting may achieve, it should always be there so that the player can properly mold a character's combat persona to their liking. Crafting is limiting in creating the true fighter you desire.

-No storage chest forces you to part with several unique, codex-worthy items that could be novel to have around. Boo.

The game's biggest strength: content. This game is absolutely brimming with content. Some may not appreciate all the content, and others (like myself) appreciate all of it. A fantastic game to lose yourself in.

The game's biggest weakness: Bugs and limitations. For a game that thrives by immersion, the bugs really do butcher the experience, and appear at the worst possible times. Limitations in combat, tactics, and other RPG elements are very disheartening. Makes me wonder what else they might streamline in future titles.

Neutral opinion: This game is so much more valuable to those invested in the series than to newcomers. Although a newcomer could endure the huge game if they made the effort, I can see why many would not appreciate this game for what it is. For those who love Dragon Age, RPGs, or both, this is a really great game and a good step into the right direction of RPGs from BioWare considering the backlash from DA:2, SWTOR, and ME3.

Final Verdict: 9/10.

I do not think they could streamline much more at this point *knocks on wood*.  :P  But I do think you are essentially right about most of the stuff they have removed and hopefully, they add them back.  And while I am ambivalent on the attribute points, they could be nice.

This is the first BioWare game that has disappointed me.

Heh. For me that would be the NWN official campaign.

My personal assessment of DA:I (as far as I've gotten, which isn't all that far) is that it's uneven, offering both things to like and disappointments.

I've seen a lot of people describing the game as around 7/10. That's also my score for it.

For perspective, If I had to rank the top five worst Bioware games, it would be:

1. Neverwinter Nights (excluding Hordes of the Underdark)
2. Dragon Age 2
3. Dragon Age: Inquisition
4. Star Wars: The Old Republic
5. Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Storm Coast

I honestly have no inclination to ever replay this game.
