Rated the game 8/10 in my review (as PC gamer). Bioware was overambitious. I am disappointend although i have enjoyed my first playthrough. It did somethings very well, somethings terrible.
Whats the general consensus for DA:I?

Didn't this game win Game of the Year somewhere, or was that just a rumor...? If so, that means most people like it, right? I thought it was okay... not the best game ever, but certainly not the worst. I'd probably give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. Definitely closer to 8 once they patch all of the glitches...

Not deeply impressed at all.
I waited with baited breath for DA2 to come out and loved it (right up until MotA came out).
I had similar anticipation for DAI and I've got to say I don't love it, I don't even really like it very much. It's not Mass Effect 3 awful so i will keep my eyes peeled for DA4 but I'll pass on this version

Very true, I think that some sort of award was on the cards before it even got to the public. I do think a lot of people will and do like it though, and good for them, I'm just not feeling it myself

Generally, GOTY is chosen by the editors of a specific publication, or by vote.

Just a reminder that all PC players do not hate DAI. I play on a PC and I love it!
Just because a few people get on a internet forum and cry about controls does not mean all PC gamers hate this game, jeez. SMH

Heh, I really hate DnD mechanics so I don't think I'll agree with you there. That is very true. I like DAI better than DA2, but I guess that isn't saying much. Then again I wasn't a huge fan of DAO. I guess when it comes down to it the Dragon Age series was something I played because it was out at the right time. The characters have always been interesting and lots of fun but the story... it's always been a fantasy trope.
It's sad that I would love for Bioware to go back to the Dungeons and Dragons world because their work outside of that setting is hit or miss.

General consensus eh?
Inquisition is a massive leap forward in the right direction for the Dragon Age series. It's huge, colorful, beautiful, daring, fun, and flawed. The game might halt at the precipice of being 'legendary' but it's one of the best Bioware games, indeed one of the best fantasy RPG's, to be released in a very long time and well worth everyone's attention.

I've seen a lot of people describing the game as around 7/10. That's also my score for it.
For perspective, If I had to rank the top five worst Bioware games, it would be:
1. Neverwinter Nights (excluding Hordes of the Underdark)
2. Dragon Age 2
3. Dragon Age: Inquisition
4. Star Wars: The Old Republic
5. Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Storm Coast
I honestly have no inclination to ever replay this game.
I was going to say if Hordes of the Underdark was on your short list, you and I would have to resort to fisticuffs. ![]()

Be that as it may, I don't seem to recall any such awards being given out to poorly received or otherwise unpopular games... I take it you have some examples of reviled games that won "Game of the Year?" If not, I'd say that it's a good enough measurement of the game's reception... or are we only talking about the forum's response?

Just because a few people get on a internet forum and cry about controls does not mean all PC gamers hate this game, jeez. SMH
But a lot of them don't really like it. Look e.g. at the PC rating of the normal customers (3 of 5 stars) on Amazon.com.
A quote from a rating with 2 stars, which was marked as helpful by a lot of people as example:
"So here we are, a game with all the features you could dream up, but with mediocre gameplay, horrible AI, horrible control, mediocre story, a few decent characters among a bunch of very generic ones, and a ton of fluff to pad out the gameplay I've already established as mediocre. The game can be enjoyed, I suppose. It has a few fun cameos, some beautiful locales, and a generally good score. As a whole, though, I don't see how I can justify three full stars when there's so much part of the core game which just isn't good."

I have 4 playthroughs on DA2 and I have 6 on DAO.
And only 2 on DAI and I don't want to start a third.

I'd rate DA:I ahead of Mass Effect 2, but behind Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age: Origins. It should go without saying that it's ahead of ME3 and DA2.
I'd give it a solid 8.5/10.
DA:O is a 10/10.
ME1 is a 9.5/10.

Remember that GOTY is relative. If you look at the other garbage the gaming industry shat out this year, you'll realize there wasn't much competition.

GotY also seems to only ever go to games released in Sep-Dec and ignores January-August; they are going to pick a game that's hit the shelves right around time of publication.
And to the person who said Stick of Truth isn't an RPG, he must discount every JRPG ever from the category of RPG then.

The problem with the term RPG is that no two people have the same idea as to what it means. I've legitimately had someone tell me that only pen and paper, tabletop RPGs were worthy of being called as such and he didn't consider anything else valid.

Some people may have hidden agendas you know? Some PC gamers think nothing of dropping 3 grand or more on their gaming rig and expect/demand that game companies cater to them exclusively. So when its pretty clear that console controls are better than KB/mouse the PC master race guys have an axe to grind.
Also some people hate gay people IRL and they do not want to see gay characters and/or situations in a game. Another axe to grind on the internets.
I say w/e. If you like DAI play it. If not, don't. I would like all the complainers to show me what ITO is the perfect RPG so I can play it. The answer better not be Skyrim cause that would be laughable.

There is definitely a worrying amount of hate towards the game on this forum I just wanted to ask what the general consensus is
even though I liked DA2 its no secret that most people didn't like the game, with DA:O its the opposite the majority liked it
Whats the case with DA:I?
In my opinion the story is pretty good and the characters great (as expected from Bioware)Overall its a very good game but boring side quests ( I just have no motivation exploring the areas with no connection to the main story like Emerald Graves) and a short story ( seems very rushed towards the end) prevent it from being one of my best games in recent years
Hopefully with a few lengthy story dlc's the game will be improved
Outside of these forums, the general response has been quite positive.
On these forums, like all Bioware games, this is the worst Bioware game since whatever the last one you liked was.

My own opinions are much the same:
Flawed, but still fun game.
Liked the story and characters. Disliked the combat. The regions felt rather empty and lifeless, though that could be in part due to the banter bug. Also needs more story-based side missions. Hopefully DLC will further enliven it.
Also, Skyhold needs storage.

Also, Skyhold needs storage.
(thumbs up)
Got a place for all those fancy bottles, yet no place to toss my element-aligned gear and trinkets I'm saving for later.
They could borrow from Dragon's Dogma and have the Quartermaster table offer a "store yo junk" option, if they can't (or didn't want to) go the Skyrim/Witcher route of a simple trunk.

Agreed. There is a great many on this forum with serious entitlement issues as well as people who are just lazy and want everything easily handed to them.
the fact remains many people are getting their money's worth from their game, they are having fun and thats what matters.
