So i'm just about to choose my specialization with my lavellan. Originally i had planned to go with a knight enchanter do to Arcane warrior/elven connection but talking to the trainer kind of put me off the idea. Does the knight enchanter still have strong ties to the elves? Or is it just an off shoot of the arcane warrior that is commonplace in thedas know?

From a pure gameplay perspective i would definitley go with the rift mage. So i guess the main question is: is it worth it to choose the knight enchanter spec for rolepay reasons? Or does it just get mentioned by your companions right after you choose it and then never brought up again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

The entire concept of knight enchanters stems from the ancient elven arcane warriors. If you decide to become one talk to solas, who will tell you where the knight enchanter is derived from. You can tell him that by being one, you are carrying the legacy of the elven arcane warriors on. At the end of the day, it is up to preference. Knight enchanters are great if you are playing an andrastian because they are primarily found as elite bodyguards among important figures such as the divine. A rift mage is also great for rp because it demonstrates that as a mage inquisitor you were able to learn from the mark and put its power to use. Both are valid rp specs in the end so it comes down to which you prefer to play. Hope this helps!

Cheers that does help. I'm not really a fan that KE are more commonplace outside of elvish society. A well...

Rift Mage is bugged though. You cannot re-apply weakness effect to an enemy while they still have weakness on them, doing so causes the weakness to cancel out and negate your mana regeneration.

Knight Enchanter is the only mage specialization that is bug free.

As for roleplaying, as one of the poster above said, Knight Enchanter has its roots in Arcane Warrior, which is Elven in nature.

Additionally, your could roleplay your Elven mage Inquisitor as someone who looks up to your Elven mage Warden who was an Arcane Warrior. Lavellan looking up to Surana.

Then there is the fact that you can tie your Knight Enchanter specialization training with your potential love interest arc. You might roleplay the idea of your mage Inquisitor getting some swordplay training from Cassandra or Iron Bull or Cullen or Blackwall which can lay the groundwork for more interaction and potential romance. It also makes more sense for you to be a Knight Enchanter and romance Josephine since part of Josephine's romance quest involves you getting into a sword duel (its rapier but still) and being a Knight Enchanter can explain how you, as a Dalish Elf mage, can hold your own for a while in a sword fight against a well trained Antivan nobleman.

Spec choices are never brought up again after the initial companions chat. Vivienne tells you that she is a KE too... at the end, while the KE came from the Arcane Warrior tradition (Solas explains it), it was modified by non-elven mages.

Leliana talk to you too about KE - sadly you are never given the option to say that it is something from ancient elves and not just a chantry bodyguard....

Sera too have interestng conversation with you about you getting more magery, but it is not KE specific and so may be something all romances get?

 Cole too I think.

....it also is disappointing that beyond these few companions no one ever mention your specialization - considering that was the reason blood mage wasn't option for us.... /sigh

KE is the best option for an elven mage for RP reasons, as it is steeped in elven history. Definitely most appropriate despite the fact that the filthy humans perverted the concept by making it a Chantry specialization.
