do not leave your console (not sure if it's 360 only) unpowered for long. i was transporting my xbox and didn't have Internet when i turned it back on. it reset the time and date to 11/22/2005, when the console was released

It happens when you unplug it from the wall, or it has a power surge. It's been an issue with the 360 since it was released.
