Hello there.

What are the best uses for Knight Enchanter's Disruption Field ?

It is an AOE spell like Static Cage and Pull of the Abyss.

Static Cage, once upgraded, becomes the mage ultimate torture tool. Extra damage per damage dealt and paralysis if enemies try to leave the cage. & they say blood magic is bad.

Pull of the Abyss is essentially, Thedas' version of Singularity except this Singularity is on the ground and it applies Weakness.

So how about Disruption Field ?

If it weren't centered on the caster it would be great. As is it's crap. You're better off slotting more damage or running cage.

So Static Cage is a lot better ?

Yea, Disrupting field has pretty minimal use... You can technically use it on dragon's (if you get the head caught in the center,) which is pretty amusing. The cost, duration, centered on caster and limited targets make it kinda lame though.

P.s: Has anyone actually seen it apply weakness? Description claims to, but I've never seen it.

It's a tad more foolproof than Static Cage, but the centred-on-caster nature and the lack of Cage's mad damage mean it's inferior to both Cage and Pull of the Abyss in most cases.

It does work well as a melee aid, though. Not that the KE honestly needed it.

Is upgraded Disruption Field supposed to still apply 10 seconds of 50% slowing, or does that just get replaced by the 5 seconds of 99% slow until hit? Because it only seemed to be applying the latter effect when I tried it, disappearing as soon as someone hits... like a crappy cross between flask of lightning and knockout powder in most situations. Is it better to not upgrade?

I guess since Spirit Blade is AoE and Disruption Field has a small AoE you're usually going to end up losing the slow effect really quickly unless you stick to single target damage (energy barrage, basic attacks...)? Thinking of making my second playthrough a KE, after I get a proper controller... AI seems terrible at using KE abilities in general.

I use it a lot, almost every fight depending on the enemies. Its main use after it got nerfed is completely stopping enemy Archers/Rogue. Here's a simple combo I use to destroy ranged mobs in a few seconds on Nightmare.

Fade Step Lv.2 (Into a mob of enemies)

Disruption Field

Fire Glyph Lv.2 (This will automatically hit since they can barely move)

Fade Cloak Lv.2 (You should have enough for this if you're standing by at least 3 enemies)

If all 3 spells crit, you're looking at around 12-14K or more damage depending on your gear and stats. If you do this quick enough you wont even get hit. I might make a short 15 second clip of this if you need. Also, my Disruption Field lasts a bit longer because I have Varric in my party so that also helps. And lastly don't waste a point on upgrading Disruption Field since it's rather useless because you're going to want to hit that enemy while they're in the field.

What Bioware should have done is make Disruption Field deal 150% Spirit damage per second to enemies inside the field while it's active. That would've been much better than that silly 99% slowdown.

And instead of that silly useless Focus heal, they could've made it focus on Spirit Blade. Something simple yet elegant. For example: Sword Of The Fade - Extends Spirit Blades range and damage while active, and every third hit deals Spirit DoT damage. Or they could've made you summon another Spirit Blade so that you can dual wield them for 10-15-20 seconds while giving them increased damage and speed. Anything besides that heal would've been better.

I just ran with Disruption Field and Static Cage for my mage and after finishing I must say I found Disruption to be nearly pointless. Static Cage is crazy awesome. My KE loved casting the cage and then wading in to slice up all the paralyzed enemies.

Indeed. I have no idea why Bioware decided to nerf it. Static Cage just walks all over it in virtually every situation.
