I've just discovered that the saves are limited to 250 across all characters. It was mildly frustrating when I realized that there wasn't a way to name saves, but this is a bit more than frustrating. This game is both designed for multiple playthroughs and has a lot of potentially game breaking bugs that require reloading to a previous save. I had a bug where a companion's personal quest and romance would not trigger and was only able to fix it by finding a save from before the bug and losing 20 hours of gameplay. In previous games I have been able to save at important points in the story and name the saves so that I know which one is which. Now, not only am I limited in saving my progress on a character, but when I make a new character for a second playthrough I will be even more limited.

There seems to be no reason for this limit. The game saves to my hard drive, and there is plenty of space there for as many saves as I want. Even if the reason for this is that the game saves to the cloud, there should be an option to make additional saves to my hard drive at least.

Hu?

Let me get this straight. You want to start a new game for a second playthrough but you want to keep all the saves from the first game that you finished? ... so that you can do what exactly with the saves from the first completed game...please explain this nonsense.

It's not nonsense, I do this frequently -- go back and re-play stuff on a previous character, even if only to investigate what would have happened if I did "X" instead of "Y".  I understand the frustration, but honestly it isn't that hard to work around.  Just make backup folders for each character and drop the saves in there; you could even use subfolders based on the "time played" stamp if you had a lot of saves.  I do wish you could name saves, but oh well.

Concur - I appreciate there's possibly a Frostbite related reason why we can't name saves any more, but being limited to 250 across all characters is incredibly frustrating when I have a PC with a TB free for this sort of thing.

Also I would LOVE for screenshots and saves to go in individual character folders again even if that was limited saves - any chance please Bioware?

I run multiple characters at  the same time. And it didn't even occur to me that each of my characters didn't have a separate folder. The only other game that I've played that didn't have separate folders for multiple characters was Skyrim. Both Dragon Age and Mass Effect games had separate folders for characters.

It's just another decision that they made for this game that just doesn't make sense.

Please point out a game mechanics decision that makes sense in DA: I

Believe me I've raged about this earlier. It's stupid.

The inability to name your saves just makes it worse.

Yeah the save limit is ridiculous. I like to keep my previous playthroughs because hey, I might want to rewatch a certain cutscene without totally replaying the game to get to that point. I don't like the idea of having to pare down save files when none of them are named and I might delete the one I want to save by accident.

Can't you just make a backup of the DA:I save folder? Or after a playthrough cut and paste the save folder.

You can but why on earth should I have to do this when in every other BW game the saves clearly divided themselves by character?

Even ME2 didn't have a damn global save limit. It was 50 saves per character.

You should be doing this anyway to back up your saves. In fact, I figured every PC user was in the habit of copious back ups. I know I am.

I am not sure about 250 saves, I think you mean 25 saves. I have reached the limit and now my game constantly crashes because it can't autosaves. For a game that is based heavily on different decisions and consequences, 25 saves isnt enough. I originally planned to have at least 5 characters in Dragon Age Inquistion. Now I am only up to my third and I run out of saves. It is extremely frustrating. You don't see games that have similar massive worlds like Skyrim and Fallout limit saves to 25.

To Sartoz - Many reasons why people would keep their saves for their previous characters. 1.) DLCs 2.) You want to build on your old characters after experiencing different decisions and consequences 3.) Emotional reasons e.g. events that mean alot to the player

Problem with the saves is that ones you have @ local PC don't count. They're getting uploaded to the cloud.

So once you discover there's a limit... you have to through all those and delete them one by ****** one.

Now imagine i got to that limit in a single playthrough...

Again, this is simply not true - you probably use a music player, right? The first time that runs, it has to build a database of music files because reading them all on the fly is impractical... ; there are essentially three solutions - forcing you to use a specific client which updates the database each time (so no making backups manually), limiting you to a manageable number of files, or removing convenience features (the game will tell you which characters you have, and the character's location - all of that is obviously stored in the game, which means DAI has to read ALL SAVE FILES* before it can show you the character selection screen).

Unless you can come up with a significantly more efficient solution to this problem, limiting the number of save files is probably the less inconvenient option.

Obviously manually moving save files "fixes" this because DAI doesn't have to read the millions of files on your computer which are not related to save files.

* And if you were to hack the game to increase that limit you can watch the game "hang" unresponsively for 15min while it's reading save files.

Not eveyone uses a PC. A lot of people like myself are using Consoles.

Hopefully they won't do the same to Mass Effect 4. Mass Effect has 6 classes, if you wanna play all 6, you are stuffed with only 25 saves not including autosaves and milstone saves..

Danielle 100 - I m using a PS3. However when I was researching for the limited saves issue, I have come across many XBOX players complaining about having 25 limited saves. If you have 50 saves, you may wanna help those people :)

Wow, I would be hurting with that few saves, I wonder if it's 25 on the 360 and 50 on the one. I'm going to ask some other Xbox one users.

Danielle 100 - Good point. I haven't come across any PS4 gamers saying 50 saves yet if that is the case for XBOX ONE. It will be interesting to find out.

At the VERY LEAST, for when DLC comes out. I used to delete old playthroughs in DA2, but when story DLC came through I really regretted it, because I couldn't take my favourite Hawke through. I had thought there wasn't much point in keeping a save where you're stuck in your house, but I was wrong.

I agree about the save limit. I actually have nine characters (each spec for all classes, all eight romances and one single) because I am obsessive about seeing the content available.

Doubly agree about save-naming. If I'm only keeping typically around 10 saves per character, I want to know what they actually are.
