Hello everyone!

I apologize if there are similar posts in regards to this across the forum, i tend to try and stay away from reading / looking through forum posts here to avoid spoilers since i'm only about 10 hours into the game.

Now to my topic:

When playing a game such as Dragon Age my characters appearance means the world to me. You spend a lot of time looking at the face of your inquisitor throughout all the game dialogue. I have noticed, as some of you also might have, that my character looks one way in the character creation screen but once in the game starts the lighting makes my character look very different.

Instead of going back and re-rolling my character, forcing me to replay the opening & prologue over and over, i wish the Mirror of Transformation would make a comeback. It was a magic mirror located within the black emporium in Dragon Age 2 which allowed you to change the appearance of your inquisitor anytime you'd like.

Even an approach similar to the surgeon found in both skyrim & Fallout would be awesome, which allowed you to change your looks for a small amount of gold.

What do you guys think? Has there been any talk or official response to the idea of changing appearance mid-game?

Pretty common request.  I reckon they're going to do a Skyhold DLC with fan requests.  Generally publishers like to get something out the door in the first month, when the game is fresh in people's minds and this would be a pretty quick DLC.  It could include stuff like Black Emporium (and the mirror), changing your Skyhold pyjamas, Awakening style court sessions, more judgements, a dungeon, more customisations, cameos from Sandal/Bodahn and other characters (SKETCH PLEASE).

I would love being able to change things like the beard or the hair so you can adapt to the story. Like, you maybe create a certain kind of character at the beginning but along the way, your character is totally different from what you predicted and his look doesn't fit

Thanks RawToast for the Link!

I would love if the mirror of transformation would make a comback before the DLC hits, mainly because i don't want to progress and experience the story as a character I'm not completely happy with. And also to Esperard's point, being able to alter your characters features to simulate passing of time or other events that could change the player appearance would further increase my sense of immersion & roleplay.

I too would definitely want a Mirror of Transformation in Skyhold. Also different casual clothes would be welcome. The current outfit works well IMO with a human male and female, but an elf female just looks so skinny with them.

You would think this would be standard by now. How many games do they need to make before they understand that people might want to change their character halfway into a 90 hour game?

What really hurts about the lack of a Mirror of Transformation is the way it takes something that should be unambiguously positive (a robust character creator with a staggering number of variables and choices) and turns it into a high-pressure situation in which you have to get everything right, or have to continually erase characters and restart the game, or have to settle for a character you're not satisfied with for what could be a 100-hour playthrough. It doesn't take much to turn a positive into a negative; on the other hand, it wouldn't take much to add the feature that would make the CC the no-pressure occasion for having fun with customization that it should be.

IMO the biggest problem with the character creator is that the lighting in there is very different than what it is for most of the game, so what looks good in CC might not look good once you actually start playing. Maybe Bioware could add lighting options in the CC so you could test how your character looks under different conditions?

In my opinion, the quickest fix for this issue would be the following:

The blacksmith in Haven has a certain amulet which allows you to change your spec mid game. I would suggest adding yet another amulet, let's call it amulet of transformation, which triggers the character creating screen and allows you to change your appearance mid-game.

This would be a very quick and cheap fix, since the only "new" content needed for it to function would be the icon for the amulet (could re-use existing generic amulet icon), and a text line to name the amulet. It would of course require some logic & code work to call the character creation screen mid-game, but no additional NPC's, V.O, dialogue lines etc.

I feel like we need a poll or something :)

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I'm all for changing appearances but what about adding other characters' responses? Not sure if it would be possible but after changing your appearance, they should have companions and others say something like "WTF happened to you?"

Thats a cool idea MyKingdomCold. Would be fun to hear Varic's response to my new & improved face :)

This would however increase the cost and complexity of the function though, and also make it less likely to make it into a regular update patch and instead having to include it in a future DLC.

I'd have to pass on that one, since I'd only ever use the appearance changer to get my characters looking the way they were meant to look from the beginning, and I wouldn't want any reminders about how the CC made it very difficult to do that.

Wasn't there some lore about the Mirror saying that it changed everyone's memory of you as well?

Anyway, these things should really be standard by now. A lot of MMOs also don't ship with appearance editors. In don't get it. The entire architecture of games this days is designed such that a character's appearance is boiled down to basic data points, so the game can construct a "Cullen" and a "Bandit" and an "Inquisitor" easily with the same process. All you need to do is expose an interface that can edit these basic data points; something that turns a "4" into a "6" so the game loads a different hair style. Conveniently this interface already exists in the form of the character creator you originally used to create your character.

A simple console command would be enough for me until a more rpg aproach is taken (mirror, amulet, whatever)
In the pc version I mean

I really liked this mirror in DA:2.  Since the game played out over 10 years, I would use it at the start of each Act to make subtle changes to Hawke's appearance - slightly aged face, different facial hair, maybe a new hairstyle.
