so I get that you tried having us evolve our character only the way YOU want it, but is having a limit on useable abilities really that great an idea? 0_o

you can have a level 20+, meaning you can have around 10-12 useable abilities, yet can only use 8 at any given time. could you please implement another panel activated with the Alt+1-8 combinations?

that could also be carried over to the console controllers (Im not sure how you use skills on console controllers, but I guess you have to hold the L1 or R1 key. the alternate ability panel could be activated by holding both...)

sorry if I seemed overly critical or unpleasant, just the product of being in a hurry. ;-)

I'd rather they go with the approach they used in Origins where you can pull up the radial menu and choose an ability from there. That way you can keep your most used abilities front and center and then have your less used abilities behind an easy to access menu. This was especially useful for queueing up abilities for an entire party since it pauses the game, allows you to issue any command, then unpauses when you close the radial menu.

You present an easy to implement method as well. I use a game pad on my PC and the dpad left and right don't have any function so those could be used to flip through different ability setups in lieu of using the Alt key.

Still, though, I'd much rather have the Orgins ability wheel, mostly because tactical combat in Inquisition is terribly flawed.

Oh my gosh, agreed so much ^!!!! On my second play through now, and since I'm not in such a state of bemused wonder at the sheer beauty of this game anymore, I find myself growing more and more annoyed with the combat system. I'm really disappointed in the "tactical" play for this game. I would also much prefer a return to DAO's or even DAII's radial menu.

Combat's fine for me, but I play a Mage, and I usually used a few abilities in Origins and 2, since I'm not much of a min-maxer or even someone who plans builds, I just use whatever I feel like.

Would it really matter? Your stamina gets drained in such large chunks chance are you aren't even going to be able to use all those spells and abilities. The only thing I would recommend and could imagine them doing is making the Focus ability a separate thing entirely, and only allow us one Focus Ability. They're so important they're needed, so its like we have 7 instead of 8 really.

I was worried about 8 spells before I played the game, but when I did I realized the game was balanced around it, and adding in 20 more spells would just be redundant

Yea, I was annoyed they took this away.  They also removed your ability to switch weapons in combat.  Both should come back.

you do have a point I saw while writing my original comment, yet I dont agree completely.

lets say you played a mage and had cold and fire spells. you use fire most of the time, but then you encounter a rage demon (or other creatures which are resistant or immune to fire) and so you need to use cold.

besides - wouldnt it be better and more easily accessible for you to have your combat spells mapped to 1-4?

apart from that - I play a dagger rogue, and those have a few skills which are kinda hard to part with. :-) since they have their use - e.g. twin fangs is fine, but becomes obsolete for stealth strikes when you get Shadow Strike, yet is still useful in regular combat (while your stealth generators are recovering). but with 8 ability slots you have to choose between them. not to mention that you get more and more skills with specialization classes...

and the recovery isnt that terrible on rogues, imho. but its not really the point in this topic, even though it may seem like it is. the reason is simply because your current situation may call for a different skill, not for you using 30 skills at once, thus it would come in handy to have slots where you can map that skill, wouldnt it?

I hope I made sence there, because, frankly, I had to re-write that last sentence a couple times. :-D

AMEN!!! :-)

we did ask for the weapon-swapping to be returned, for the same reason I listed above.
